hi folks!

things are progressing fine, but i'd like to mention some troubles i've met with xbmc lately.

when pressing "info" button on the ms remote control, (in order to get imdb info about the movie), xbmc hangs on some, but not all, movies. when i try to get imdb info from the same movie, from the same location (f:\videos), with the latest release version of xbmp, it takes awhile before loading, but i get the info about the movie, (cast and so on), but the movie has no thumbnail. so, if i may think freely, i think it hangs because there is no thumbnail? anyone who have the same problem?

also, xbmc scales the thumbnails of the movies that work with imdb wrong. they becomes streched horizontally. (latest cvs release of xbmp show them ok).

these problems are not major, but when you have time, please look them up.

if others have experienced the same problem, please mention them in order to help the devs.

cheers,

maybe you can post some file/movienames not working to test for the devs.

hi,

i just tested the 2003-12-08 build, and i still had problems with the exact three movies i tested before. i will test all movies tomorrow and try to see if i can see a connection between the "bad" movies. so far i have found none, the names of the movies differs, some have long names with spaces, some consist of just one short word, so it must be something else than the name it hangs on. i'll come back if i found something.

cheers,

would be easier if you provide the exact name of some files.

cube.avi ('97)

also, the posters for some movies on imdb seem to have a larger image size than what xmbc handles.

old_school_(2003).avi doesn't get to the proper movie in imdb.

from the 12/08 build

i store my movies in separate directories, and the movie file(s) in the corresponding directory. after some testing, i found out that most (but not all), movies worked with imdb after i renamed the directory and the movie inside, (just deleted all the characters in the name, and typed in the name again).

i also found a movie that didn't work with imdb when i press "info" on the remote on the directory, but when i entered the directory and pressed "info" on the movie-file, imdb did work.

the actual names (characters, length, spaces) of the movies does not seem to matter very much. i had problems with movies with short names without special characters, while movies with many words and spaces did work.

hope this info can help someone.

cheers,

hehe this is your third post you are talking about not working filenames and how you chnaged them to get them working. wouldn't it be much easier to provide some samples (again)?

- -Thegn- - 2003-12-11

yes, of course i can write down a lot of directorynames that did not work, here's three: blade, spider-man, enemy of the gates.

but, as i wrote in my former post: "the actual names (characters, length, spaces) of the movies does not seem to matter very much. i had problems with movies with short names without special characters, while movies with many words and spaces did work."

same problem... in divx movie.

there are another bug relate: when i press in divx playback info key 3 time to show and disable the time position, then if you press "subtitle" key one or more time the button don't work. if you press again info you see "subtitle disable" and the subtitle work again.

ah, the % position in info is displayed only the first time you press "info" key... bug?

sorry for my bad english.

maybe it is not a problem of special chars or something like this. but with the exact names you used for a file not working a dev can try to reproduce the failure and see what happens. thats why i asked for the exact names all the time. Smile

hi!

the weird thing with some of the directories was that imdb started to work after renaming them, with the exact same name. (i marked the directory, deleted every character in the name, and typed in the name exactly as it was before). i did this from my network neighbourhood ftp shortcut to the xbox.

can it be something with permissions? can it make a difference if you copy a directory with contents from the pc to the xbox, or if you create the directory directly on the xbox and then copy over the contents?

i'll try to think of some more
:d

tried with last few xbmc cvs'

i've got a 120gig hard drive with all my movies stored locally
on the xbox (about 80).
not sure if it's worth mentioning but the xbox connected using dhcp to a spi router.

each movie/video file is in a folder/s of its own, all of which are in one root directory that "my videos" links to. (eg. finding nemo, one of the problem folders, is in f:/movies/finding nemo/finding nemo.avi - there is nothing else in any of these folders, apart from films split into more than one file, in which case i have used f:/movies/moviename/moviename - 1.avi and moviename - 2.avi. imdb lookup has occured on movies irrelevant of the number of files in the folder, so i seriously doubt this is related)

i havn't manually created any thumbnails for any files, they were all created (the ones that worked) using the imdb lookup
function (hitting info on the remote while hovering over the folder)

this has worked flawlessly with many of the folders, but
others hang the xbox. once imdb lookup has crashed, every time xbmc is restarted, it crashes on the same file. there seems no way round it (i havn't tried deleting any cache/imdb files in the xbmc dir - although this problem arose after a clean install - tried this more than once).
there is no obvious link between the folder names, this problem occurs irrelevent on the number of words, strange characters, punctuation or numbers, it makes no difference.

renaming a folder, then renaming it back to its original name, as -thegn- has stated (i'm using flashfxp instead) does sometimes work, trial and error, and repeating this process until xbmc doesnt crash seems to be the only solution.

could'nt have said it better than "hazeh" said :-)

i think some progress have been made in cvs, but since there is no build at the usual places....

- MrMario64 - 2004-01-02

the problem is not the filename, it is the page that gets returned from imdb.
thats why we need to know the movienames.

this is fixed now, and since today some other stuff is fixed to for imdb. patch posted so who wants to test it is welcome to download it from sourceforge:

thanks for the update, mrmario64! great you found out what was causing the problems.

thanks again!
