RE: New plugin "iPlayer WWW" - scatat - 2017-08-27

That worked - now running an alpha of Kodi 18 but hey, I can live with that - thanks again.

CaptainT, I'm having an issue with Iplayer which I don't want to discuss publicly here right now, I can't pm you as I'm a junior member. Can I pm some way with the details or through some other way?

Many thanks, R

You haven't made enough valid posts and also your account is too new to have PM privs yet. It's a general anti spam measure.

RE: New plugin "iPlayer WWW" - Superkoduser - 2017-08-29

Totally understood..... but I have a valid technical question to ask of him as the Dev which if I have to do openly I will but for now it would be better to do it privately if he's amenable....

RE: New plugin "iPlayer WWW" - Karellen - 2017-08-29

@Superkoduser

You don't have enough membership status to PM. We are an open forum, and frown upon requests for private assistance.

Please ask your question in the thread.

RE: New plugin "iPlayer WWW" - Superkoduser - 2017-08-30

Ok, I still feel this is more appropriately done privately at least initially:

The issue I'm having is as follows:

I have kodi 16.1 running the Iplayer www fully updated on an android 5.1 box. I'm living abroad and so I understand I'm not really supposed to be able to get it but it's speedily becoming one of the few ways left to get the Beeb! I also understand that there is some sort of eu directive where expats and/or holidaymakers should have the ability to view 'home' Tv while abroad.

I use a free vpn currently, one of the few free VPNs left which has always worked really well. It still runs the itv player(live and catch-up) and also BBC live Tv perfectly however catch-up on BBC is not working. I get the usual message 'you must be in the uk to view this program'

I've set Iplayer to use limelight on both live and catch-up set at 3.1mbs because this always worked very well.

A friend of mine who has the exact same Iplayer settings has a relatively new box (android 6.1) and also uses the same free vpn with Iplayer on kodi 16.1. Her catchup works perfectly currently. She's on fibre 30mb, I'm on 10mb but I'm sure that's not anything to do with it.

My interest peaked recently when I noticed my box was disconnected from the internet and when I started Iplayer it gave a 'cookie error', (this was after Iplayer catch-up stopped working)

My question(s) are:

Is it possible that the BBC are using cookies in some way to block individual connections?

Is it possible they are receiving the boxes MAC address and blocking that?

Is it purely down to IP blocking which seems unlikely as I'm blocked and my friend isn't....?

Is it possible they can see my true ip in which case why is my friend not blocked too?

Any help on this is very much appreciated as if there is something I can do on the box it would be very helpful.

Kind regards,

Paul

I am sorry to say, Paul, but this is exactly the kind of topic that should not be discussed. Neither here, nor via PM. The add-on is not meant to work outside the UK and your usage is simply not supported.

Apart from this, I don't even know the answers to your questions. You need to ask the guys who implemented it at the Beeb.

RE: New plugin "iPlayer WWW" - RabidHadron - 2017-08-31

Hi Everybody,

Just started using the iPlayer WWW plugin in Kodi 17.4 Krypton. I've configured Kodi to automatically send anything I want to watch to a Chrome tab from where I cast it to my TV.

Everything else works fine except this iPlayer WWW addon. It basically brings Chrome into focus, opens a tab which immediately closes, then Kodi comes back into focus. Not sure what is happening or why. I'm in the UK and for this purpose not using a VPN.

Thanks In Advance
RH

I think SuperKodi put his question well. If you pay for a TV licence then no matter where you are you should be able to watch BBC programming.

This is entirely the only reason for the existence of an iPlayer addon for Kodi (you either want to watch BBC from abroad, or don't have a licence). So, unless I've missed something we're all breaking some regulation somewhere along the line.

This is neither legally or factually accurate.

Also, discussions concerning the circumvention of geo-locked services is a forum rule violation which is why @Superkoduser's questions were not entertained. Please keep this discussion on topic from now on please.

Are you using the DASH streams? Try the HLS ones in the Settings.

No, I was already using the HLS streams. Switching between them makes no difference. All my other addons appear to be working fine.

How have you configured Kodi to send what you are watching to a Chrome tab?

I have no idea how forwarding to Chrome works, so anything I say here can only be a wild guess.

Do you use Autoplay or manual stream selection? If you use Autoplay, try switching it off amd select a stream manually. I suspect that Chrome attempts to play the URL passed on by Kodi. If Autoplay is on, that is not a valid URL to a stream, but to some additional logic, which will only work within Kodi.

If this solves your issue, I would further recommend to use DASH streams as they come with adaptive bitrates, while HLS will always stick to one bitrate exactly. DASH should be the better choice when playing in Chrome.

Hi Captain, I cannot find any option to "Autoplay" other than "autoplay next episode" which I don't think can be relevant here, I currently have that turned off anyway.

I might try and see if there is any way to debug whats going on as I don't actually see what is passed to Chrome as the new tab disappears too quickly.
