RE: Arctic Horizon - loggio - 2020-06-13

Hi jurialmunkey,

I see you've been hard at work on this project. It has come together really well and you should be proud of what you've created. Your attention to aesthetics is second to none in the skinning community. Hats off to you once again on this one.

One request I would like to make is to add the standard poster wall view found in Arctic zephyr as a view option in movies/shows so we can set it and forget it as a default view.

I realise a wall view is available by pressing down but I must admit, the intuitive nature of it just doesn't flow. Although it looks great and is a cool idea, the fixed scrolling of the grid makes it nearly impossible visually Keep track of where you're at in the grid. It plays tricks on my brain lol!

And now that you've broken away from your original idea to only have the one view and added more selectable views, it seems rather odd to have this view hidden away as an on/off feature in the library settings.

My library consists of about 900 odd movies so the wall view is always set as the default for my skins. I simply cannot intuitively scroll a list that large without this view.

Thanks again,

Keep up the great work!

Loggio.

If I select: video library>sources>4K>create menu here that works, but I then have an issue. If I select "movies" as the view, and then save. When I then select the 4k menu item it doesn't take me straight to the movies but to a page that I have to click through before that. Which is annoying, I am including a screen shot.

If I do the same but select files view it does that thing where when you selelct the movie it doesn't play but it shows all the stuff in the movie folder and you have to then select the mkv, both of these are not ideal I feel like I am doing something wrong.

Any help, also am I crazy, where we always able to get a wall view of all movies by pushing down, I love that!

Scan all the items to the library and then either create Library Nodes or Smart Playlists to separate your items into different sections.

Smart Playlist is simple. Go to Videos > Playlists > New Smart Playlist...

Use the following rules:
Type: Movies
Order by: Sort Title
New Rule: Path starts with /path/to/your/source/folder

Image

When you create the path rule, you can browse to the folder by clicking on the folder with the search icon:

Image

Save your playlist with a recognisable name and then add that playlist as the submenu item - et voila!

Obviously all the items will show together in your main library "titles" - However, the Smart Playlist separation might be enough for you, particularly since you can always create widgets and other sections by duplicating the smart playlist and adding additional rules.

However, the really great organisation options are via library nodes and will allow truly separated libraries -- library nodes are the same principles as smart playlists but used as actual sections of the library (e.g. you can split your library just like a smart playlist and then have separate "Recently Added" and "Genres" and "Years" etc. sections).

Use the Library Node Editor addon if you want to go down that route - it's easy to use and well worth the initial setup effort. Once you get used to using it, you'll be surprised at just how powerful it is -- I'm surprised more Kodi users with big libraries don't use nodes and smart playlists, because the level of customisation available is really what sets Kodi apart from the alternatives.

Thanks again for this, just got two of my devices setup properly. Can't believe I am just learning how to do this.

A poster wall as a standard viewtype doesn't really fit in the design specs of the skin.

Hopefully this image of the design specs will illustrate why it doesn't work.

Image

The design spec requires all viewtypes to have a Title, Infoline, Content label, and View Division (area in blue). As you can see by the two posters stacked vertically (red), a wall view doesn't fit into that spec - each poster would need to be 60px shorter to fit and then they wouldn't be the right width to fit neatly in the horizontal space.

With this skin, I'm being very strict with the design specs because I want something that looks consistent. The only way a poster wall would work whilst keeping padding and item height consistent is to compromise the design spec by getting rid of the view division and content label... something I'm not keen on doing.

I'm trying to figure out a way to provide a scrollbar wall that is vertical only (i.e. doesn't wrap around and allows the horizontal focus position to change) -- which is what I originally wanted to do, but there's a ton of technical reasons that make it difficult to achieve -- particularly since it needs to be connected to the main list. I'm pretty determined to find a way to do it though -- I'm convinced I'll eventually figure out a way that I can do it!

Very good skin. I use zephyr but I want to migrate to this.
Only a few request.
I like clearlogo in top of skin like the photo in example.
Any chance to add it or can you tell me how I can mod my skin to have it?
Also.
I like have the landscape fanart very clear. How can have it like my photo?
Thanks.

Sorry, you can't do either of these things in this skin and they won't be added.

Noob question. Is there a way when I select movie to go to the details screen of that movie instead of it playing the movie.

I looked around but couldn't find it.

Hi, I m using smart playlist to categorize my library. There is a little issue, the filter side panel doesnt work when you browse smart playlist. It only work with the default movie menu entry.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. It's a tricky one to tackle indeed.

I've always been inclined to turn off title info and descriptions etc. on the library views where possible as i find I have never bothered to read any of it anyway and hate the amount if realestate they consume lol That's what the dedicated info window is for. I only really ever find that stuff useful for episode and live tv use... But even then I like to stick with a basic list view.

I have my kodi setup to show info window when selecting a movie, that way I can focus in on that stuff only when required. But that is the minimalist in me and I'm sure there are lots that will disagree with my views on that.

I often tend to hack things in and out of skins to minimise as much as I can and adapt to my liking. I've been using my own modified version of the pellucid skin for a long time now as its simplistic layout is the closest to my approach for every day use. But even that required a heavy amount of modifications to please my appetite for live tv, shows and addon views.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. I look forward to seeing what you can come up with!

Everything is fantastic so far.

Cheers,
Loggio.

You can't advanced filter a smart playlist.

Use library nodes instead. That's one of the advantages of nodes over smart playlists.

RE: Arctic Horizon - RedRanger - 2020-06-15

I've encountered a small bug after the latest update. The Fullscreen Widget no longer shows the Clearlogo automatically on the bottom right side of the screen. AH used to always load the Clearlogo as the widget autoscrolled.

I've uploaded a quick video below:

https://streamable.com/5mn76s

The first 12 seconds (from Pitch Black to Raging Bull) are me manually cycling through the widget using the "right arrow" button. You can see the Clearlogo at the bottom right loading fine. At 13 seconds, I switch to another widget and return to the Fullscreen Widget, which initializes autoscroll. From 00:15 seconds to 00:42 seconds the widget autoscrolls without any Clearlogos loading. Finally, at 00:43 seconds, I manually press the "right arrow" button to make the Clearlogo for Halloween show up.

Again, this is a minor issue. My post length probably makes this seem like a bigger annoyance than it is, but I just wanted to be as clear as possible explaining the bug.

Thanks!
