The "A-Z" folder is always empty and the "All" folder is organized alphabetically anyway. Not sure if it's worth fixing or should be.

Unfortunately, as of yesterday, there's now a new issue. The folders under Channel Highlights - BBC One, etc. - are all empty.
I know about subcategories not working properly. This is on my to-do list.

Thanks for the notification about the Channel Highlights. Will check it out on the weekend.
Channel Highlights still work for me. I assume you get an experimental version of the website. Please try deleting your iplayer.cookies file. If the problem persists, please report back.

There is no difference with respect to VLC, Kodi or the original Beeb apps. These are simply two different CDNs used to provide the streams. Depending on location and load one or the other might be faster.

Strange error displayed in iplayer.www - OldElf - 2018-06-24

Hi, I have been using iplayer.www for some time now and most of the time it works fine. However, the last few weeks I have been getting a strange error displayed when I try a programme on BBC catch-up. BBC live works well, with the odd pixilation, but when I try any catch-up I get this displayed on screen……….

HTTPSConnectionPool(host="b2rbsov.bldi.live.bbc.co.uk', port=443): Max retries exceeded with url:
/vod-his-uk-live/usp/auth/vod/piff_abr_full_hd/e607af-b01pqdl3/vf (Caused by SSLErrof(SSLError(1. U[SSL;
SSLV3_ALERT_HANDSHAKE_FAILURE] sslv3 alert handshake failure (_ssl.c:661)’).))

I have reinstalled the app twice, so any idea what this means? Or do I need to alter anything on my Android box.
The other thing is that the box will not let me install the Log app.
Any info on that would be great too.
Many thanks

Hi all,

Fantastic job getting the bbc world
Cup 4K streams to work with Kodi! I love the iplayer add on too.

I’ve managed to get the bbc World Cup 4K stream to work perfectly on Kodi installed on to a nvidia shield. I can change the resolution of the stream to 4K no problem. I’m using stream 05 as a test here.

I don’t however see my 4K HDR tv display the signal it’s receving is HDR. I can see the tv is receiving an HDR signal when playing HDR movies via Plex on the shield so I know it’s not HDCP/HDMI related.

Just wanted to clarify with those who’ve got the bbc uhd World Cup streams working via Kodi that they are also able to get them to display HDR also?

I’m using the nightly build 18 of kodi just FYI

Thanks all

You are either not in the UK, or running an old version of Kodi (Jarvis or older). In the latter case try disabling https streams in the add-on settings.

I do not know what may cause the issue with Log app.

RE: New plugin "iPlayer WWW" - OldElf - 2018-06-25

Many thanks for your reply.

I have Kodi 17.6, and yes, I do use it when I go across the channel, but it still plays up in UK. I thought it may be the Android box, but tried it on my Pc at home, and still got the same error.
I have installed Kodi 18-Alpha 1 on my Pc, and still get the same. When watching live TV and buffering (if that’s what it is called) is 8-9 seconds ahead, and works well, but still not catch-up.
Again, many thanks.

The fact that you get buffering with live TV indicates a problem with your internet connection - if you are in the UK at that time.

If you get the errors you mentioned with catch-up on top, it would seem to me that the Bidi-CDN is inaccessible from your point. I would recommend to try different CDNs for live and catch-up in the add-on settings. Use whatever works best for you.

RE: New plugin "iPlayer WWW" - compy - 2018-06-26

how do you switch the resolution, for me HLS was not working, so i had to switch to DASH, but i can get maximum 1080p, no option to change the resolution as it is grayed out.

You need to change those in the settings for inputstream.adaptive. Make sure to increase the max resolution as well as the maximum bitrate (or set the latter to 0).

Ok Thanks, i will try it today.

RE: New plugin "iPlayer WWW" - noggin - 2018-06-30

Just a note to anyone who thinks they aren't getting the HDR streams on the UHD trial.  You are.  The only streams the BBC are making available in the UHD trial are HDR (they include 2160p, 1440p and 1080p streams - all in 10-bit HEVC HLG Rec 2100 HDR and Rec 2020 colour gamut). On iPlayer there are no SDR streams being made available as part of the UHD trial (*)

HOWEVER - the HDR system the BBC uses is HLG, which is backwards compatible with SDR (it tracks SDR's EOTF until about 60%), so if you see them in SDR mode on your TV the pictures don't look 'odd', they just don't have the extra dynamic range.  On Sony TVs you can manually force HLG mode - and watch in HLG.

HLG isn't the same as HDR10 (which is used for HDR Blu-ray, Netflix, Amazon Prime) and most (all?) Kodi HDR-compatible platforms currently only cope with HDR10 flags on HDMI, and don't flag HLG content correctly.

You DO need to watch in Rec 2020 colourspace/gamut (otherwise the colours will look 'wrong') - and ideally have a full 10-bit decode and output path to get the full benefit of the dynamic range (though you will still see HDR with an 8-bit path, just with more compromised quality)

(*) The FA Cup Final 2nd Half live stream test WAS SDR (but flagged HLG...). Sky Q BBC UHD Wimbledon will be SDR UHD.

RE: New plugin "iPlayer WWW" - stammie - 2018-06-30

The other thing to remember with these UHD streams is that they are limited to only tens of thousands of users at once,
so it may well be the streams will work for you but too many people are already using the service.
I've had a couple of occasions when I couldn't get a game in UHD on my TV's Iplayer app until half time when I assume people were channel hopping allowing me to nip in lol.

RE: New plugin "iPlayer WWW" - primaeval - 2018-06-30

I haven't actually had a chance to look at an HDR or even UHD TV.
Is HDR actually noticeably better or is it like an audiophile placebo that you can't tell the difference in ABX testing?
