RE: [RELEASE] Library watchdog - gpiccon - 2012-12-25

Option to scan while playing music or video? Is the only option I'm missing. Works like a charm!!

RE: [RELEASE] Library watchdog - ZIOLele - 2012-12-28

uhm i've a pc that i use as server for storage and mysql db for xbmc. All medias are exported to ohter xbmc installation with samba, i've decided to install xbmc on that server and use this plugin, but i'm not sure how to configure things. should i map the local directories as sources in xbmc ( the one on the server) but then the clients can find the correct media?

Forget it, i've found a post on page 15 that discuss this and it's very clear :-D may i suggest to integrate the first post as to why one need to add the network drives as local and to exclude them from updates?

Yes. Just mount the SMB or whatever you have as local drivers for example target to: /storage/music for music and /storage/movies for movies. You should put the second option, Polling I think it's named. Disable the update at startup, both for music and video and reboot. You'll facinate when you add new media to your server folders and they appear instantanelly in your media box Smile

Regards.

This looks really promising!
I will give it a go once local mounting of a SMB share isn't required anymore, will the new version be avaliable on the frodo repository?

Cheers!

Isn't requiered anymore? Are you sure? Also, what is the problem about local mounting of SMB? I've my system with local mounting and works like a charm.
Frodo? I've frodo RC2. It works.

Frodo? I've frodo RC2. It works.

It's not really a problem, I could do local mounting, but the way my network looks it's not practical the way windows handles local mounting.

I store all my movies on my desktop computer, which isn't always turned on, and if I start my HTPC before I start my desktop computer, the mounts doesn't work until I go into explorer and click on them once, whereas SMB (obviously) doesn't need that.

Supposedly it won't be required in the next version.

(2012-12-18, 12:53)takoi Wrote: Really? Is this true? It's definitely not impossible to run samba since xbmc does it internally. Either way, as I mentioned previously: the next release will not require manual mounting so it will definitely work on atv2 then.

RE: [RELEASE] Library watchdog - gpiccon - 2012-12-30

Mh.. I have a server and XBMC runs in Linux. Doesn't have that problems. It the next release will not requiere manual smb mounting. You should give a try.

RE: [RELEASE] Library watchdog - rcjroy - 2012-12-30

Couple things I should list before asking questions

1. I'm using xbmc on a mac with mysql running from this machine
2. All sources in xbmc are through smb notation (even local drives)
3. watchdog runs perfectly with videos using my original smb source but adding a mounted local drive (ticked with 'ignore on library updates' so that there are no duplicates or errors with mysql paths)

Music sources don't, however, have an option to 'ignore on library updates'. I don't see a way that you wouldn't end up with duplicates.

edit: BTW Thanks for this plugin, it full automates the xbmc library and should be a part of xbmc internally. Great work!

It would definitely grab my attention if it worked with SAMBA shares instead of just local. None of my media sources are local.

RE: [RELEASE] Library watchdog - jadel - 2012-12-31

Edit: Got it working by restarting the apple tv Undecided Who would have thought ...

Couple of questions.

1. Ubuntu 8.04 requires polling?
2. Does delay represent seconds? I figured it would be useful to add a delay so that when deleting multiple items it doesnt refresh for each one. Is that sort of what its for?
3. If I dont check "clean up library" it doesnt seem to do anything. What should I expect without enabling that option?

.....

Thanks so much. This is really what I have been waiting for. Now if I could get an option to popup delete after viewing xbmc would be almost perfect Smile

RE: [RELEASE] Library watchdog - jmh2002 - 2013-01-03

Do I understand correctly that this doesnt work on iOS devices running Eden due to some sort of python issue?

And, upgrading to Frodo will solve this?

Additionally, does this add on also watch iOS local directories? I am using 1Channel which builds a library with .strm files and I would like the TV Show library to update when a new Subscription (stream) is added.

Smile

RE: [RELEASE] Library watchdog - spyda - 2013-01-04

My experience of using this on iOS devices (Apple TV) is that it is not possible to locally mount the SMB share and therefore the libraries will not be update automatically as intended. I believe the dev is working on an update that eliminates the need for local mounting.

When the update comes it will most likely require Frodo as Eden gives a script error on activation.

RE: [RELEASE] Library watchdog - jmh2002 - 2013-01-04

Thank you for the reply, however in my case (using aTV and an iPad) I am not trying to mount an SMB share. I am using the local onboard storage (since its just a stream file being added from 1Channel, its just a link, not an actual video file).

RE: [RELEASE] Library watchdog - spyda - 2013-01-04

Ah, different use case then. Haven't tried what you are doing so can't really comment but I would certainly upgrade to Frodo and go from there as I had problems with Eden which were solved this way.

"service.watchdog: watching </home/vamp/>" It's because you have set this folder as a video source in xbmc. You really shouldn't do that. Xbmc continuously create and delete files from the .xbmc subfolder, that's probably why you see it continuously scanning.

What for? Scanning while plying a video will probably hog the disk and cause the playback to skip. And there will be a popup.

(2012-12-31, 06:21)jadel Wrote: 1. Ubuntu 8.04 requires polling?
You need Linux 2.6+ to use inotify. I don't know what ubuntu 8.04 have, but if your kernel doesn't support inotify then it will fallback to polling automatically.

Yes it's in seconds, but keeping it at 1 shouldn't be a problem. It wont refresh one time for each file if you delete them at the same time anyway.

If you don't check it, it wont remove videos from the library when the file is deleted. People who use removable drives and such need the option to turn this off.
