RE: Arctic Horizon - NotYourAverageAl - 2020-08-14

@jurialmunkey great updates. my rpi3 was starting to struggle but is back to speed.
I agree with @FXB78 the "header" look empty. I would suggest  maybe add the movie title of the focused item when vertically scrolling.
Also the was heading Titles| Sort By always there when wall scrolling? Feels out of place, I cant put my finger on what bothering me about it  Laugh

Just for my information.. what is the benefit of this feature over the 'normal' browse (horizontally with information text on top)

More posters on screen, some think it's easier to navigate.

I was thinking it should be something like this:

The other thing I noticed was the the fanart backdrop is also on the header... which is the part that felt odd to me Big Grin

In homescreen I have 3 menus (Movies, TV Shows and Netflix) when I start scrolling down in Movies I will go automatically into TV Shows and than into Netflix.. is it possible to stop at the end of each menu, lets say movies, and go to left bar and select TV shows and start from there scrolling down.

I find it very complicated now because if I go from movies into TV Shows and go to left bar back to movies I am back at the last selected item of movies rather than at the top widgets.. rhis is the same if I go from Movies and stop at an Item.. go to TV Shows scroll down through Netflix and scroll further to Movies I will end at the last selected item of movies rather then at the start so I have to go every time back through all widgets to be at the top of the menu..

So scenario..
Menu bar
1. Movies
2. Tv Shows
3. Netflix

Scroll through Movies and stop at lets say widget 3 of movies and decided to look at TV shows..

Press left for menu bar and select TV shows and scroll down through all widgets which brings me automatically into Netflix widgets..

Scroll further will bring me back to Movies widget 3 rather than at start widget of Movies and this is also the case when click left menu bar and select movies, so in this case I have to scroll from widget 3 to 2 to top widget.
Yes I think an option to always focus on the first widget would be good if possible.

It's not really possible to change the position of the group without actually moving to the widget. Kodi grouplists always remember their position and there's no real way to reset the position afaik.

I'd definitely prefer if the group position reset to top when switching through the menu. If I knew a way to do it it, that'd be the default behaviour.

Thanks - is it possible to have same behaviour as in Arctic Zephyr instead until this can be achieved hopefully? So at the end of widgets for a menu it will stop scrolling down.

Not sure this is a skin issue, but it's a minor annoyance so I'll report it. I have a submenu item, "trending lists" from TMDB Helper. I often click it to discover new movies. The problem is, when I see an interesting movie in a list, I click to view trailer. When the tailer concludes or if i stop the trailer, AH goes back to the lists but they refresh so the original list that I was interested in is gone. If I didn't pay attention to the name of the movie/trailer I can't find it.

Hope I explained it clearly.

I love your theme, but I would like to add some elements to make it a little more visual.
I have managed to replace, when there is a clearlogo, the title of the video with the clearlogo, but I can't get it to appear cut off.
I paste what I have edited in case you see that something else needs to be edited.
Code:

The header on the 0.4.1 update looks much better! I miss the fancy animations... but I think this redesigned wall view works much better and is a little more straightforward to use Smile

Works great now on low spec machines like Raspberry Pi 3 / FireTV Stick 4k.
The old version was a little sluggish sometimes. 😎

While we're at it, would it be possible to include another loading animation for low spec media machines? The waves animation keeps stuttering there. 🤔

I have that turned off, there's an option in settings. You still get the busy spinner so I don't really need the waves thing.

I’m going to miss the infinite scroll wall view, tbh.

I use Kodi on the Nvidia Shield, and the old wall view wasn’t sluggish for me at all. It was an incredibly unique form of browsing that I’ve never seen done anywhere else before, and I was able to view content much faster than the standard wall. It really made this skin stand out.

Performance whilst navigating the wall itself was fine. The issue was the initial loading/building of the wall includes caused a delay of several seconds when first opening the library and this had a general knock-on effect across the whole skin. The delay was quite noticeable even on an i7 with an SSD.

The problem is that all usable code needs to be include on window load. So whenever the library is opened, the skinning engine is loading the code for six different walls (poster/square/landscape/seasons/artists/collections) all at once. These walls are then sitting hidden in the background waiting to be used - that's why the performance hit is more general rather than only specifically when using the wall.

With a normal viewtype, the skinning engine loads a single "itemlayout" template to draw all the items onscreen. For the infinite wall, however, each item needed to be individually specified. The poster wall by itself had 66 individual items (36 onscreen plus 30 offscreen for scrolling animations). With six walls, that's 300+ items just sitting around in the background! And each of these items has multiple components (overlays, shadows, text etc.)

With that said, it's definitely a unique feature and I'm hopeful that it will be able to make a comeback as an option (disabled by default of course!!).

Yeah, this annoys me too! Kodi forces a refresh of all containers once playback ends - so unfortunately nothing that can be done from the skin side of things.

You could maybe use a random seed that changes less frequently? There's a possibility of this happening still, but it might make that a little less common.
