I believe I have the same problem as murilofla and JonniMR. My HDMI will drop out occasionally. Changing out HDMI Cables, and adjusting frame rates etc dont help. It seems like people have determined that its an HP Chromebox Hardware problem. Is that true? Is it verified that replacing the device fixes the problem? Mine is bad enough that it is basically unwatchable.
Thanks,
David

JonniMR had an Asus, not an HP. If the problem persists under ChromeOS using multiple HDMI cables across multiple displays, then it's likely a hardware issue. While it could be a HDMI handshaking issue as well, it's not likely that multiple displays/cables would exhibit the same issue.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for the quick reply. I hadnt tried it with another monitor but just did with an older 17inch computer monitor. No problems there after 30 minutes of runtime with a movie on Openelec. I think the cut outs would have shown up by now.. Any ideas? My TV I want to use this with is a Vizio e601i-a3. Its a bottom rung 60" TV about 1 1/2 years old, but has been pretty good with everything else..
Thanks,
David

I've been using this for the last several months and it's been great. Lately my Smart Control FLIRC combo has been on the fritz. One button press turns into 20 or so. Judging by the FLIRC forum I am not alone in this issue. Don't know if it's occuring as they get some age on them or what. At any rate I need a remote ASAP before my wife orders sattelite again. Is the PS3 remote working now? If not I guess I'll go with the Rosewill from the wiki.

David, assuming you've tried a few cables, I'd check Vizio's forums to see if other owners have the same issue / possible solution. You could also try the OpenELEC IRC channel for support, the folks there are very knowledgeable and (mostly) friendly.

PS3 remote works fine, though the key repeat is still not ideal since there's a 1s delay before it start repeating

Matt,
Ive moved my HP Chromebox away from 2 amplifiers in my rack (over 2KW of amps) and that has greatly reduced if not fixed the problem. So I think I have excess noise on the HDMI, and/or the Vizio TV I have is susceptible to high noise. The smaller monitor I tried, still works fine with the Chromebox by the amps. So for now I will rework my component placement.
Have you heard of this issue?
Thanks,
David

outside of the one or two people in this thread, I have not

Well, my original issue is still with me, even with direct driving the TV with a fairly short HDMI cable, plus powering down most of the entertainment center. Its less, but still there. I guess I will start investigating sending the unit back to Newegg. The start of that procedure will be re-loading it back to the as-shipped Chrome OS installation. I will try Chrome with the HT setup and see if it cuts out too. I also have an older Zotac Atom box I will try Openelec on and see if it does ok.. Thanks again for all your help and awesome code!!

Hey movie78, Chromebox is perfect for XBMC and playback of full 2D BD rips (3D ISO's and MKV's will be rendered as 2D) and HD audio. It does proper 23.976, 24 and 59.94. Basically, if you don't need frame-packed 3D support, Chromebox is really hard to beat for the price-to-performance ratio.

1) please don't encourage bad behavior; this isn't a ChromeBox Q&A thread, and everything the OP wants to know is on the wiki (in the top section in fact)
2) HSBS/HTOB 3D playback works fine; frame-packed / "full" 3D playpack is an XBMC limitation, not a ChromeBox one

Thanks for the suggestion Matt. I still cant get it to show up on my monitor. Took it to my TV and I could see chromium there for a second. I think this box really has a manufacturing defect with HDMI.. But now I cant get ChromeOS back on it. Any other ideas for a command line type thing on a stripped down linux distribution? Or how to get it going with a low resolution driver?
The good news is Openelec is working well on my zotac atom box. No HDMI problems or anything.. Thanks again!

since you have a smart control i'd suggest just hooking it up to the chromebox via bluetooth. i've been using it like that since matt's bluetooth fix hit OE in 4.1.2.
