Arcanthur Wrote:Yes I'm sorry to inform you Excalibur007, we won't be adding SD support ourselves... There are MANY reasons why, I'll list some:
  • The majority of users of XBMC I'm sure are HDTV users.
  • The amount of time new/modified code and textures would take us away from building the skin as we intended it.
  • HDTV's are not that expensive, 32" LCD 720P goes for around 400-500 these days
  • Most stores don't even sell SDTVs anymore, why cater to old tech. IE same reason they don't sell VHS Movies anymore
Also what "systems" are you referring to looking like crap on HDTV? Old Video game consoles? I have a Colecovision and NES connected to my 56" HDTV, you notice more flaws in the graphics sure, but lets be honest, these are 10-20-30year old consoles. They look crap anyway, we dont play old games because the graphics are good, we play them because they are still fun.

Also, just because something still works doesn't mean its not time to upgrade. Otherwise we'd all still be using VCRs and Record Players. Rofl

But like g33k said, all this is still not stopping someone from doing a SDTV mod, just dont expect one from teamblackbolt. Nod
I agree with all you said with one exception and that is record players.
Sales of which are going up steadily as people realise digital music is junk, and vinyl is still being produced albeit in small quantities. any way that's off topic.
Besides the skin will run ok on sd though it will look odd, if they want it in sd i'm sure
they will mod it themselves if there prepaired to spend weeks maybe months re codeing
the skin and altering all 600 or so textures, Frankly it's easier to buy a New LCD tv for less than £300 Pounds, Which is why i upgraded.
So i do sometimes Disagree with you guys at timesLaugh

If you want decent quality upscaling of old systems get a plasma.

Personally, I wouldn't want one even if I "could" afford it -- for the reason that they don't suite my usage. (given in other reason)

Well, pretty much any system older than an Xbox 360, Wii, or PS3 looks like crap. I've played my Xbox on quite a few HD TVs and NONE of them have looked good... unless the game supports 720p, then they look great, (yes, with the HD component video chord). But upscaling from 480p looks like garbage on everything I've seen it on except a CRT VGA monitor.
Other examples:
* I love the Dreamcast, but it looks horrible on an HDTV... not to mention the extra lag that you experience with a rhythm game like Space Channel 5, (I played that one on a plasma before and it took a minute before I realized why my timing was so off).
* The Gamecube looks terrible.
* I still play systems from the Atari 2600 through NES, Genesis, 3DO, and Jaguar -- all of which look horrible on every HDTV I've tried. Oh, and forget about using a Saturn on an HDTV unless you want a massive headache! It's true that an 8-bit system like an Atari doesn't have great graphics to begin with, but they were meant for TVs that have scan-lines and take advantage of some features that just aren't rendered properly in progressive scan.

I'm not into throwing out something old, (in this case, only 5 years old), just because someone says I should buy something new. I still have a record player. I also have tape decks that get used once in a while along with my CD players. I still use VHS as well as DVD -- and I'm NOT about to jump into blue-ray. My parents still use one of those TVs in a wooden encasing that they bought when I was about 8 years old!

*** All that being said, I appreciate the calm response and I'm not trying to start an argument or debate. I just wanted to voice my opinion. I wish I could change your mind and I'm sure there are MANY other SD users out there, but at least I finally spoke up. I've been quiet for a long time and just watched in frustration each time a new skin is made that seems to neglect the Xbox and/or SD. I know some of my friends feel the same and if none of us makes our voice heard, the impression is given that we don't exist.

This skin seems like a great candidate to be more taylored for the Xbox and general use since it mimics the 360, so I hoped for more compatibility. You guys have done a great job with it and it could have been a great new default skin for me. Unfortunately, I guess I'll be sticking with PM III. Best of wishes to you all and here's to hoping someone will take up the task of doing an SD mod.

johoja Wrote:Exactly, Couldn't a column be added next to the Episode title with a check mark? It's hard to tell what's watched,or not otherwise when looking at a whole Season folder for example manually checking each episode for an overlay on the thumb.

I haven't noticed this in the change logs for the update, or the video...is this still planned?

The only thing I could do for info panel was to make the text a different colour when watched it's a darker grey when unwatched it a lighter grey.

It is in the video.

Tri panel and poster list the little stars let you know blue watched red unwatched.

Still do the others.

Thank you very much. Cool

hi, will this make it to next beta release?

Building a skin is a huge investment of time so we can't be blamed for neglecting the old XBox really; XBMC has moved on and so have the skins.

I suppose the only solution open to you is to learn how to skin yourself.

Yep it's already added, along with a ton of other new flags, mostly for video codecs, and some sources.

- paul - 2010-02-02

That's good news as i am missing a few mostly mpeg-4, i did try to make a few but they were no match for yours.Big Grin

XBMCG33K :

I use the same movie view as you are ( http://i48.tinypic.com/2yuagb4.jpg )
Is it possibly to have Watched overlay on the covers in the view ? If not perhaps have the text Watched and Unwatched after the stars? So its easy to spot what movies are watched/unwatched when my friends are over and browsing my movies Smile

Adding Unwatched support to Poster view is already on the to-do list Nod

Have you considered a good quality upscaler? Some upscalers are relatively inexpensive and perform admirably. You might find that a decent upscaler would let you get a lot out of older systems without sacrificing quality on newer media. Some of the systems look horrible simply because the bitrate was terribly low.

An even bigger difference is screen size. A picture can look pristine on a 25 inch display and look horrible on a 48 inch display. This has more impact than anything. An (good) upscaler will interpolate the source pixels to get the best fit. Without something like that, you are just producing larger blocks of low resolution graphics from the source.

Tri-Panel (or maybe Poster List) view for TV Shows is my only request.

I've managed to hack my way into showing them but they're a bit messy which is understandable. Hopefully we can get real TV Show support from them.

Other than that, very nice skin. Cool
