lol, thanks, it'a really just a case of having worked with this exact IR receiver already, and also having previously fixed some issues with the MCE driver itself (which are now part of the mainline kernel), so having the domain experience to identify the issue quickly. If you had asked me any of this a year ago before I started hacking on the ChromeBox, I would have had zero clue on any of it.

don't suppose you have a DMM and can test for continuity?

look at this enlarged pic of the WP screw hole on the Asus:

the two "halves" shouldn't be touching, except when the screw is inserted. If the DMM registers continuity without the screw in, then the two halves are making contact somewhere that they shouldn't

I have 2 question;

After waking from suspend I have no sound output. This is fixed by a restart. Is there a proper fix for this?

Also, using the XBOX ONE media remote on OE, the xbox button does nothing. Can it be mapped to be the power button? I'm new to OE, so with it being very much 'done for you' its great out of the box experience but if you want/need to tinker you have to learn a bit more than regular XBMC/Kodi.

Thanks

as per the output of lsusb, your IR receiver is manufactured by Topseed, and their buggy firmware (or Linux's buggy USB3 implementation) is to blame for it not working. Grab one of the known working IR receivers (listed on the wiki) and you'll be all set.

So there is no way of fixing this?
I need to purchase another receiver "Damn"

How is the PS3 bluetooth adapter works with Logitech Harmony touch?

Thanks!

can't say I've seen that, how long was it taking to download? can you press a key to wake it? I thought I had disabled ChromeOS's power management to prevent it from going to sleep, but maybe not

sorry for the delay matt. it went to sleep after about 3 minutes, i will try with the programme you recommended today and i will let you know how i make out, but just a quick question, if i have screwed this brand new box up, can i simply change the ssd, and the would it programme like a nuc? please don't laugh, if fix mechanical not computers. thanks. steve.

set the ddm to ohms, and put 1 pin on the edge of the board, and the other on were the screw came out from, and if your meter is reading zero, than you still have continuity.you could try and slide something in between the board and the screw hole like a piece of card/ paper to act as an insulator for testing only, i would not leave this in.

on the wiki, there is a script you can have run on resume from suspend. give that a try. I don't have an HDMI-capable receiver here to test with.

Thanks!

the way to fix it is for someone to fix the problem in (I believe) the Linux xHCI driver code; I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I have no idea if the PS3 BT adapter works - if you have one, try it. If you don't, I recommend buying something that's listed as known working on the wiki. we're only talking $25 here.

you haven't screwed anything up, promise. Now that you've flashed the custom firmware, the ChromeBox is just another PC. All you need to do is install a compatible OS from USB onto the internal HDD.

So a couple of questions before picking up the hp chromebox tommorow.

1, is this script necysary to run if i just want openelec on the box? Cant i just put it in recoverymode and use a openelec usb stck? (And offcourse remove the screw)

2, when "power off" is used in xbmc does it completly turn off or just goes to deep sleep?

3, dont want to sound rude in anyway, but it seems a littly iffy having a modified bios on the box.

Best regards

you won't be able to boot the USB stick, since the stock legacy BIOS isn't functional. Removing the screw doesn't do anything except allow you to modify/replace the firmware, which you have expressed reluctance towards

Quote:2, when "power off" is used in xbmc does it completly turn off or just goes to deep sleep?

if you mean via the remote key, the functionality is determined by XBMC's settings - either power off or S3 suspend.

Quote:3, dont want to sound rude in anyway, but it seems a littly iffy having a modified bios on the box.

then I'm not sure what to say, other than there are lots of other hardware options available. It's not like I'm flipping random bits, everything is compiled from source, and is available for anyone to examine/build themselves. I'm just using updated branches of the same open source projects Google uses for the stock firmware, with a few tweaks.

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+XBMC) [v3.2 - 2014/11/13] - GoodOmens - 2014-11-20

Can confirm the Apple USB extended keyboard doesn't like the custom bios (but strangely worked to put it in dev mode).

Once I swapped the keyboard for a generic staples USB I picked up for $8 the install went smoothly. Couldn't have been a easier process. There was overscan with my older plasma but I fixed that in the XBMC settings.

I also noticed creating the openelec boot media didn't work. I had to create it on my mac - but that could have been user error. Can't believe how quick it boots!

Thx for answer, didnt mean to sound ungratefull in anyway against all your Hard work, im quite impressed since i dont got skills nowhere near that.

Thx for clearing up the need for modified bios and the screw just unlocks firmware changes. Got a good deal on a chromebox and will give it a go tommorow.

download the v4.2.1 Generic x86_64 disk image, write it to SD/UDB using the Win32DiskImager tool, then boot from it.

I'll take a look at the script and see why it's going to sleep, it shouldn't be doing that.

hi matt. i have tried to download the win32discimager tool and it fails to install correctly to my windows 7 machine, i have seach through google, and all the pages seem to link to http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/ so urm! im kind of stuck, this box is either going to drive me crazy, or make an awesome paper weight, any ideas, oh btw. im sorry to keep bugging you but it looks like im out of my depth a little here, but if you can help me i will sort you some beer tokens
