The odd thing is it was running for quite some time with the boot screen up while I was making another bootable usb on my laptop but shortly after I rebooted into OpenELEC/XBMC it shut down and once again no light, no power...nothing. BTW when I was monitoring the temp the other day it said it was 137 degrees F not C if that makes a difference? I wish I could narrow this down to a replaceable component and not junk the whole box. Sad
Again, your help is appreciated. Thanks

137°F isn't a problem at all, so don't think we're dealing with a thermal protection issue. I'd reload the stock firmware / ChromeOS (see wiki) and see if it misbehaves there. If so, have the box replaced under warranty.

Thanks Matt, that was my next plan of attack. I hope I can keep it running long enough to restore it. What is really strange is I have to leave it unplugged for a couple of days before I can get it to fire up again.

i was farting around with my raspberry pi and some hard drives and somewhere along the line trying to access a hard drive it asked me for a username and password. I just entered the ones i usually use for this kind of stuff and it didn't work.

Fine but now i hooked those drives back up to my desktop and when i tried to access them it asked me for a password when it didn't before.

So i rebooted my chromebox and now I cant even access my desktop shares at all, it keeps giving me a 'could not connect to network server' error.

I tried removing my desktop as a source but now i cant even add it back as it keep giving me a 'function not implemented' error.

Please help !!!

i can access my shares with other players so i know it is not a problem with my desktop. i definitely messed something up on my chromebox.

hey matt,

so i did a dual boot setup.

did step 1 to partition the hdd

went back again, set my boot options, while forgetting to go back to #1. so i didn't dl openelec, and my boot option was to boot openelec first.

so now when i press power:

SeaBIOS (version -20140706_180417-build120-m2)

Press ESC for boot menu.

Booting from Hard Disk...
early console in decompress_kernel
KASLR using RDRAND...

Decompressing Linux... Parsing ELF... Performing relocations... done.
Booting the kernel.

i keep pressing the ESC button on my keyboard, but to no avail. I couldn't find anybody else with this problem.... you have any suggestions?

I assure you, you are not the first, nor the last to have this issue =D

before the black SeaBIOS screen, press [CTRL-D] to boot ChromeOS, then re-run the script to complete the dual boot setup.

thanks matt!!! i couldn't believe it was that easy... i really wished i had done a dual boot from the beginning instead of the stand alone. kudos to you and all the other people that make my life entertaining for making these scripts and programs!

Hello, I've taken the plunge and brought a HP chrome box! Just have a quick couple of questions. If I'm understanding correctly I only want the box for XBMC so which OS is best and also can I assume there is no point in having dual boot? Thanks for any help and sorry is this has been covered elsewhere

do a openelec install only, thats what i did, nice simple and fast. option 5. then just install openelec via usb installer, create one using the menu or download directly from openelec website. ( a program to create usb installer comes with the download from the website if you´r using windows. )

Hi Matt. First of all thanks for all work that you done. and for easy instructions. After little problems I finally got it working great. The only problem I have when I connect box to my Samsung TV upstairs and push power button it will show me white screen ( like bad TV signal but more white and it's slowly flashing) . It still booting up to wherever OS i choose to boot first but it will show me that white flashing screen all the time . The only way to get rid of it is to unplug HDMI cable and plug it back in and then i see a normal picture. It won't do it on my monitor downstairs. I am using Asus chromebox Intel Celeron. OpenELEC

After OpenELEC downloaded and completed, the HP rebooted and I'm stuck at "Booting from Hard Disk..." message. Tried turning off and rebooting and immediately hitting ESC key, but no luck. Any advice?

Never mind... figured it out. There must have been a bad download or write to USB for OpenELEC off the web, so I went to another PC and manually downloaded OpenELEC and created a bootdisk, then inserted into HP, and rebooted... worked this time. Smile

I'm in the same situation. Can you point me to the correct download?

correct. If you download the .tar.gz, you need to unzip it, then run the 'create_installstick' utility; if you download the .img.gz, you need to unzip it, then write the image to USB using a tool like Win32diskimager
