Besides that, the GPU hang seems finally be fixed. I pushed the relevant commit to OpenELEC master yesterday.
I don't use openELEC, I run kodi nightly in ubuntu 14.10. Kodi never had problems with tearing; netflix in chrome browser did.

Is the GPU hang fix in Kodi or the openELEC video driver? Any idea when it'll come to normal linux?

you don't get any hang with kodi under Ubuntu with default setting: Prefer VAAPI render method enabled ?

btw here is something else you might be interested in, don't know if it still applies by this time but whatever: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=185329&pid=1699218#pid1699218

No, I had to turn that off. Like I said, I had Kodi working fine, only netflix in Chrome was tearing (badly). The TearFree option fixed that.

I have one succesful report yet: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=165707&pid=1859368#pid1859368

Some more would not hurt.

just compiled my own build, and happy to report no issues with 'Prefer VAAPI Renderer' enabled, using the various test clips I'd used before and had issues with, specifically deinterlacing with MADI/MCDI on 50i material, and a few 1080p/24 clips that were previously problematic.

SOLVED!!!

I searched through the thread, and all the mySql references didn't describe the issue I'm having.
At first, I wasn't pulling up any db info, then I changed the delay to wait for network before connecting, and rebooted, and it froze on the Kodi screen for about 5 minutes.
I held the power button, rebooted, and it came up waiting for the network, then opened up OpenElec, no issues, my music was synced, but my vids still aren't.
I tried the same advancedsettings.xml from my pc, just in case there was a typo anywhere, and same issue again.
Any ideas?
Could it be because I'm running Kodi OpenElec(4.97.2) on the Chromebox, and 13.2 on everything else?

I'm getting a chromebox next week and wanted to know when installing openelec will Gotham 13.2 or Kodi rc3 version be installed? Thanks.

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.4 - 2014/12/10] - mrmarkfr - 2014-12-13

I installed mine yesterday, and Kodi was installed.
I followed the instructions here (http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=Updating_OpenELEC#Downgrading), copied the 4 files from the Target directory, and Gotham was installed.
It was easy, took 2 minutes

Matt's script rocks!!!!!

I solved my problem, rolled it back to Gotham 13.2, recopied the advancedsettings.xml back into the user data directory, and everything works.

when using a shared library, all clients need to be using the same version since the db version changes. I just had to upgrade all my clients not too long ago

Any way to install stable Gotham or would I have to rollback after initial installation. Thanks Matt!

Matt, Sorry for the delay on pics of my board. I got insanely busy with some life stuff and haven't had a chance to open them both up yet. However, I have not forgotten and I will get them up soon.

Kodi Helix/14 RC3 is probably as stable as XBMC Gotham/13.2, but if you want to install Gotham, it's perfectly easy to do so. For a standalone setup, just create your own install media by downloading OE 4.2.1, rather than using the script to create it for you; for a dual boot setup, after install, download OE 4.2.1 (tar file) and do a manual upgrade (downgrade) then do a hard reset.

the two Asus boxes I put together this past weekend are identical to the box I have from the initial release, and match the pic on the wiki, so I'm really curious as to what you've got.

PM'd you some pics. As far as I can tell the differences are purely cosmetic. My initial box did not have the "Intel Inside" sticker, a slightly different model number reference on the rear speaker (in appearance), and no second screw opposite the right protect screw.

Here is a compiled version of openelect with the bug hang FIX shared by @jjslegacy in other thread for the ones that want to test:

Matt do you have the same problem as JJS with your compiled version?

(2014-12-12, 06:29)jjslegacy Wrote: Only issue is I can't seem to get my grayscale ramp to look smooth - always looks choppy and can see the bars. The only way I get it smooth is with setting full on the chromebox and setting kodi to limited 16:235 with Prefer VAPPI render method disabled. Not sure where the breakdown is between the chromebox, denon4520 and jvc4810

Hello, I carefully followed the instructions, but am having an issue. I am aiming for a standalone setup. I created the USB key successfully, reboot, hit escape to enter the boot menu, select my device. When I do, I have a menu with only two options, Run Installer, Run Live. When I Run Installer, after a moment the display turns off and it doesn't seem like anything is happening, though the computer is still on. Can anybody help with this? Much appreciated.
