I just found this out the hard way...

XBMC also supports the files
season-all.tbn
season-specials.tbn

For the "All seasons" icon and "specials" icons. Would be nice to see a way of using the main show's poster as the "all seasons" icon. Big Grin

Cool.. nice find.. I'll add season-all.tbn as the show poster icon, leaving wide icons for the folder.jpg (by default)... this will be displayed on the main tv show screen (in the same location as the season poster is when viewing the season). Default poster will be the first poster for the show (same as the rest of tv shows).

Is there an option to not create a <MovieName>.nfo and just create a "movie.nfo"? I don't want it overwriting my old nfos which it currently seems to do.

Also, why do we need to create a <MovieName>.tbn, movie.tbn, and a folder.jpg which all seem to be the same? I'm trying to cut down on the number of extra duplicate files created so will I be ok with going with just a folder.jpg (or is it a downscale thumbnail only)?

They should be under the settings tab, you should be able to disable those there. If you turn off folder.jpg.. be sure to check the box to show the .tbn file or you won't see the image.

For Movies Overwriting .nfo files is an option, off by default, unless it's an invalid file. It will remove invalid data in most cases as the program is used. If this is not working, please let me know as it should not overwrite a valid .nfo by default. ..

The duplicates are enabled by default as the default settings will work with different xbmc versions and options that are not in the release build (like movie.nfo, movie.tbn, additional fanart checks, movie-trailer.<ext>, etc). If you find something that goes haywire with them off, try it with it on, or manually rename the files. If you find a setting that breaks something in MIP, please report it, and some of those are deeply embeded, but should work correctly.

Another way to do it would be to create all the files, load up that folder in xbmc and see that everything is there.. when you turn off options, see whats missing, you can narrow down to what you need for the specific build your using.

Issues with tv show scans - th0r - 2009-01-10

I keep getting an exception when I use MIP to scan my tv shows. I used it successfully against my movies. The video files are in a SMB share mapped as a network drive in XP.

The movie scans work fine but scanning the tv shows root folder consistently produces this exception

http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/103027/

I tried to scan individual tv shows to try and eliminate this exception. But this causes a download dialog to pop up and it hangs indefinitely.

Is there a way to generate detailed debug logs to help narrow down the root cause of this exception ?

OK, I finally got around to setting up some movies using MIP. It doesn't seem to pull as much posters and fanart as MC, but I am not worried about that. However, I have run into two items that are puzzling:

1. How do I manually add a movie in MIP? For example, in MC, movies that are not in the IMDB db it creates a blank nfo file. At that point, I can edit the nfo file with whatever data I want, add my poster, and add my fanart. Unfortunately, I don't see a way to do that in MIP as MIP wants me to chose a movie based on IMDB. Am I missing something?

2. I have installed the latest version of MIP including the two patches and the correct version of Imagemagic. However, when I go to Tag Your Icon Image with any image I get an error. The error is:

http://pastebin.com/m28547d0b

I am running Vista 32bit and xbmc svn 16816.

What am I doing wrong?

1. When you're displaying the movie to edit, input the IMDB ID you want it to scan from, then click "rescan IMDB" information.

@fekker

Installed the new patch...TV show posters are still not refreshing in the display @ top level. Here's a pic:

Image

The circled image is what it's displaying after a poster selection...if I select a different show and then select Grey's Anatomy again, it refreshes to the right image.

Also in the pic is what I meant by displaying the folder.jpg as a poster. It's really a pain in the butt that XBMC doesn't support filenames to seperate wide icons from posters. TVshow-wide.jpg or TVshow-poster.jpg would be all that's required.

Regardless, how difficult do you think it would be to have the shows display one way if wide icons were selected (in settings), and another if posters are used?

The movie is not listed in IMDB so there is no IMDB ID for me to input. Do I just make one up?

Hey Fekker, I know I mentioned this before and I put a ticket request for it a few days ago, I'm just lobbying for that Amazon Scraper for DVD Covers. This is what I have been doing manually. For my Blu-Ray rips, I go to Amazon and basically copy the Blu-Ray covers from there. They actually look pretty good too, and it also allows others that view my collection to know which ones are the blu-ray rips.

I know your tied up devildog, and trust me if I could do it myself and contribute to help a fellow Marine out I would, but I don't know anything about programming. I did however, buy a book on C++ and how to program, and since right now I'm on workers comp, and outta work for a while I have nothing but time. So, if you'd like to point me in the right direction, maybe I could help out.

It currently will attempt to reload it the next time you load teh movie.. I'll debugging that part right now and will have some more information on that later today with the next patch (also later today).
UPDATE: you'll be able to (and want to) leave that field blank in the 2288 build (i'm working on that right now)

For Amazon scrapers, if you could find me a url that will take the IMDB id and find the move on amazon, that would rock.. if not just a url that pulls up the movie data based on it's name and maybe year.

I'll have the tv show display updated soon later today as well.

fekker - thanks for the info. BTW, I installed your program on another machine (Vista x64) and image tagging is working properly. I removed MIP and imagemagic from the other PC (Vista x32) and re-installed. Same problem. There must be something about that install that image tagging doesn't like.

Also, is there a wiki on MIP that explains what all the different settings do in the Settings menu? Some are obvious, while others are not.

Thanks for a great program!

I seem to be having a problem with Movie Info Plus rev 2383 reading my Directories on a network share. It keep trying to read the Recycle Bin and inside it. I put RECYCLE and S-1-5-* in the custom list but now it just stops reading directories after R. Any ideas ?

I'll add it to the ignore list in the new build.. just fixing an issue I busted with shows so it's in the same area and will be fixed later tonight.

My documentation of it currently consists of 1 page Big Grin .. but there's a few folks here that may know, so never hurt to ask, and feel free to update the mip wiki (goes for anyone, writing documents was never my cup of tea)

I don't know everything about MIP, but I definitely play with it enough. I'm glad to help answer any quesitons that may come up. And maybe I'll add "look at MIP WIKI" to my long list of "to-do" projects. Big Grin

I had one other comment on the new updates...

The "new fanart/posters" dialogue looks like it's gonna work well. I know you're still working out the kinks on a million different things, but maybe add an check to do the initial scan without the popup telling you how many art there are, only on the very first time scanned? And, of course, add the "new art available" option to the radio list of "No Fanart, No TBN, Missing .NFO, No Icon" list.

Thanks again for all the hard work. I know the feeling of spending all your time trying to make a program better. I can only imagine how it is with something as complex as MIP. But, you know I love the program, so thank you. Big Grin

Edit: Late-night though...what about poster scraping for movies from IMDB? I've got a lot of posters in my collection that don't match what I find via MIP. I'm thinking they came from IMDB...
