RE: Amber for Leia/Matrix - Filmbuff - 2021-01-12

Really liking the new icons only menu, great work!
One little request, if it would be possible to move the menu item name to the upper left corner, opposite to the date and time?Image   Image

Maybe you can make it also possible to see the plot (and maybe more info) when selecting a movie or tv show in a widget.
I mean full screen widgets like in arctic horizon

@Aaiemron , I really like those full screen widgets in arctic horizon, but I do not think I will implement something like that, because it would mean a total rework of my widget code, which is complex already (for me).  Unfortunately, this is not something I am keen on taking on right now.

Absolutely no problem of course. It was just a suggestion. I really like the skin the way it is right now.

Amber is new to me so I'm still playing with it... that said, asking for suggestions is asking for trouble so be warned hahaha! So far Amber looks feature-complete in its core features but of course the fun is in the tweaking and the nips and tucks. As I mess with it more I'd be happy to toss in some suggestions.

One thing (and again, a small thing) I've noticed is the CU Lyrics display overlaps the top of the music OSD during playback. In the skin I used to use (Estuary Mod v2) instead of the block of text for the lyrics they used sort of a fun, larger font and had a quick animation tossing the lyrics up line by line as the song played. It made it easy to see from across the room and didn't interfere with any other interface elements. Friends and family really thought this was a fun feature and have told me they miss it. Personally, I'm happy to get a skin that I like working in Kodi 19 so I didn't want to look the proverbial gift horse in the mouth, but there you go!
@snarfo, could you please try the latest from Git? I have made the changes to introduce the Video Lyrics functionality.  Please let me know if this is what you were looking for, and what other changes you think it still needs.  You will find a new setting here:

And it will look somewhat like this:

Wow, you are a machine. So far tonight it seems to be working perfectly and there was much rejoicing in the homestead. We listen to music more than we do anything else in Kodi so music features are a biggie around here :-)

I've had some more time to play with and tweak some settings and I have a question. I'm pretty sure a setting (or combination of settings) will get me what I'm after but I can't seem to puzzle it out. On my music menu node I have 3 shelves: Top 100, Recently played albums, and Recently added albums. This (with squares displaying album covers) is the perfect layout for me--- it looks great and I love its functionality. However, when we select an album it immediately starts playing the whole album instead of going into the track list so we can start with a particular song. It's getting late for me and I know my brain is getting mushy but for the life of me I can't find the right shelf library item to use to get this to work.

@snarfo , that is my bad.  The shelves function like that if you have the addon script.playalbum installed.

I just pushed changes to GitHub to make this configurable.  You will find the new setting here:

The default now is NOT to play whole albums from the shelves.

RE: Amber for Leia/Matrix - teriyaki - 2021-01-13

Just gave Amber a try for the first time...  I'll start by saying thank you for taking the time to develop the skin! It's off to a great start from what I've seen so far. I do have a few quick suggestions/requests to offer;

1) Make the top bar text color and submenus text color independent from the main text color. For those who typically like darker color for non-highlighted text in the main menu, the darker color becomes harder to read in the top (info) bar and submenus.

2) Allow setting the top bar text to be left/center/right justified instead of just right-justified only.

3) When I go to edit a colors hex value in the color changer menu, the on-screen keyboard appears with a pop-up that says I have to download the keyboard auto-completion addon. However, you can just cancel the pop-up and use the on-screen keyboard normally. I suggest getting right of the pop-up altogether since it's inaccurate and quickly becomes annoying for users who don't use auto-completion. If users install auto-completion then let it just work. If not, don't pester them about it.

That's all for now. Smile

@teriyaki, thank you for your feedback! I think your requests are valuable and will improve the skin.

In terms of request #2, which text are you referring to specifically in the top bar? I ask since there are items there where changing the alignment doesn't make sense to me. Please let me know.

The other requests I will add to my To-do, and should be able to complete them in a day or two.

Regards,

Bart

I should've been more specific about #2, sorry about that. On the main menu, the date and time are right-justified (upper-right) of the top bar. I just meant it would be nice to allow users to choose to have that text displayed centered or left-justified as well (upper-left) of the top bar. I haven't gone through all the options yet so I apologize if the suggestion doesn't consider other text/information that might be displayed in the main menu's top bar.

Another thing I'd like to mention, and this really applies to any static items like date/time, is that allowing their placement to be adjusted (manually or automatically) can help protect users from burn-in or at least put their minds at ease knowing they can move static stuff around a little bit from time to time. Newer tv's are a lot better about it but a lot of people don't fall into that category.

@teriyaki, thanks for the clarification. I am not planning on changing that at the moment, since it would mean also changing the position of all of the other items that are displayed in the top bar, such as menu item label, now playing information and fanart background title. I agree with you in terms of static items, and will keep this in mind for a future redesign of the top bar.

Bart

Maybe it could be an option when only 1 item (time/date) is displayed? If >(time/date) is enabled then no change?

Cheers

I think it looks better then to have the widget row at the top, next to the selected menu item.
What do you think?
