RE: Weblate registrations - asereze - 2024-10-28

Hi everybody!

Username: asereze

Language: Sardinian

I have never worked on the Transifex project, I previously submitted my translation for Kore via GitHub and then it was uploaded to Weblate. Could I still be added as a coordinator, since there is no one else for that language?

RE: Weblate registrations - User 490033 - 2024-10-29

Username: Cats
Language: Portuguese (Brazil).
By the way, they are listed twice, with and without "pt_br," and one of them has zero contributors. Couldn't they be merged?
Cheers,

The Singing Cat

As far as I can see, Kodi does not have Irish language file. I'm not very familiar with Weblate and don't know how to add it. I'll try to figure it out but I want to apologize in advance that it may take some time.

Yes it's very odd.  Usually there is an ability to request a language by pressing the Plus icon, however the plus icon doesn't work for me.  Here is a screen shot

Thanks for looking !

Here's how to add a language to a project in Weblate:-

Log in to Weblate: Make sure you're logged into your Weblate instance with the necessary permissions (Administrator or Maintainer).

Pick one project - Kodi Core would be logical, Pick one component in Kodi Core - Kodi main would be logical →  https://kodi.weblate.cloud/projects/kodi-core/

To the right of Kodi main there is a square box, see image. Click on the square box:-

If you have enough permissions, you should see a list of languages on the next screen.  Click on the plus arrow, see image

Now fill in the language, Irish, or Gaeilge, see image showing French added:-

Click on 'Start new translation'

If the Language Is Not Available (how the language is listed already https://kodi.weblate.cloud/languages/ga/) :-

If the language is not listed in the dropdown, you'll need to add it to Weblate's supported languages:

Edit languages.json:

On the Weblate server, locate the languages.json file. It is usually in the /app/data/ directory (or similar, depending on your installation).

Add an entry for your language using the correct ISO 639-1 or 639-3 code. Example:

{ "code": "ga", "name": "Irish", "plural": "(n != 1)" }

Restart Weblate: After making changes to the languages.json file, restart the Weblate service for the changes to take effect:

sudo systemctl restart weblate

RE: Weblate registrations - Roman_V_M - 2025-01-30

Thanks for the instruction, but istead of "Add language" I have "Request a new translation" button that does not seem to have any effect because I'm the Admin both on the Weblate and on the component level but do not receive any requests. I will try to figure it out.

RE: Weblate registrations - aindriu80 - 2025-02-03

I see, many thanks for the effort.

I opened a query on Weblate about the issue https://github.com/WeblateOrg/weblate/discussions/13737#discussioncomment-12038754 -  no answer, but they are updating the Weblate software to 'include reason for not being able to add translation'.

There must be an error somewhere, I just see 'can't add translation right now' message beside the plus buttons https://i.imgur.com/clkQnD9.png

RE: Weblate registrations - Roman_V_M - 2025-02-03

The big problem is also that despite using Gettext .po files, Kodi does not use GNU Gettext proper but rather its own homegrown localization system. Also the translation files and the master lagunage file (en-GB) are located in different GH repos. So it's probably not a Weblate issue at all but that of how Kodi handles language files.

I'm tinking... Could you try to create a PR with a blank Irish language resource addon in this repo: https://github.com/xbmc/repo-resources/tree/omega ? Omega branch should be the target. You can use any other lauguage addon as a template and put a blank Irish language file created from this one: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/blob/master/addons/resource.language.en_gb/resources/strings.po. Source strings must be populated from the en-GB source but targed strings should be left blank. Also you need to change the language code to the proper value. Plural forms do not matter because, as I said, Kodi does not use Gettext. I was thinking of doing it myself but I'm not sure how to populage language properties metadata, e.g. https://github.com/xbmc/repo-resources/blob/jarvis/resource.language.uk_ua/resources/langinfo.xml You could check how it's done in other language addons and and adjust to Irish.

RE: Weblate registrations - aindriu80 - 2025-02-03

I attempted a PR there https://github.com/xbmc/repo-resources/pull/501  I just created a folder called resource.language.ie_ga/resources/strings.po with string.po based on https://raw.githubusercontent.com/xbmc/xbmc/refs/heads/master/addons/resource.language.en_gb/resources/strings.po

RE: Weblate registrations - Roman_V_M - 2025-02-03

A language addon shuld include all the necessary files, not just strings.po. As I said, I'd done it myself, but I don't know how to fill language parameters in langinfo.xml. Again, please check what files other language addons include.

RE: Weblate registrations - aindriu80 - 2025-02-12

Hi Roman,
Firstly, I want to thank you for adding Irish support to Kodi – I can see it on Weblate now! I was doing some translations this morning, but it seems the translations I uploaded have been removed. Additionally, I’ve noticed that I am now blocked from making further translations :S
Could you please look into this? I’d appreciate your help in resolving it.
Thanks again!
