RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.5 - 2014/12/22] - malik500 - 2014-12-24 I have successfully install in standalone mode openelec kodi version14.. Everything is running amazingly good. Only one thing I am missing is there is no web browser is there anyway i can install a web browser ? any body have done it ? is there a instruction for rookie linux guy? RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.5 - 2014/12/22] - rodalpho - 2014-12-24 Has anyone been able to display the fan speed in linux? Lm-sensors (and sensors-detect) does not detect the fan control module. My fan was making an annoying noise. I managed to get it to stop by turning off the chromebox and tapping it on the bottom a couple of times, but I'm concerned that it isn't running at all now. I can monitor the coretemp via lm-sensors (so I can check if it's actually overheating; I've been unable to get it over 60C so it isn't), but would like to see the fanspeed also. Should've done a chromeos/openelec dual boot. I didn't like chromeos at first but it's a little fantastic OS imho. Something you should consider. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.5 - 2014/12/22] - wrxtasy - 2014-12-24 @malik500, this may work.... I don't run it personally. http://openelec.tv/forum/chromium-browser http://unofficial.addon.pro/ RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.5 - 2014/12/22] - movie78 - 2014-12-24 Hi Matt: Since the Official Kodi was release today,is our Chromebox going to auto update to Kodi? RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.5 - 2014/12/22] - Matt Devo - 2014-12-24 (2014-12-24, 06:47)movie78 Wrote: Hi Matt:OpenELEC betas/RCs, if set to auto-update, will update to all subsequent betas/RCs and the eventual stable release, after which it will auto-update to future stable releases only RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.5 - 2014/12/22] - Sunflux - 2014-12-24 Kodi official was released, but OpenElec is running a bit behind that and just had RC3 come out (remember, unlike vanilla Kodi, OpenElec has a whole OS behind it to support as well as their own Kodi customizations). I'm sure the official stable version will be out in the next few weeks. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.5 - 2014/12/22] - fritsch - 2014-12-24 OE RC3 is the final kodi, but missing the "one liner", to change the version :-). We will change some things though for final (mostly with Cubox powerdown setup), but for the rest, we look very stable for now. Besides some Pentium GT1 issues, those hang the kernel like nothing I have seen before. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.5 - 2014/12/22] - fritsch - 2014-12-24 As many people always ask, what the chromebox can do: H264 Limit: http://distribution.bbb3d.renderfarming.net/video/mp4/bbb_sunflower_1080p_30fps_normal.mp4 2160p @ 30fps Too much: http://distribution.bbb3d.renderfarming.net/video/mp4/bbb_sunflower_2160p_60fps_normal.mp4 2160p @ 60fps HEVC: Works: http://www.libde265.org/hevc-bitstreams/bbb-1920x1080-cfg02.mkv (1080p @ 60 fps) Too much (slightly): http://www.libde265.org/hevc-bitstreams/bbb-1280x720-cfg02.mkv (720p @ 60 fps) Here an average HEVC file, that works quite well: http://www.elecard.com/assets/files/other/clips/bbb_1080p_c.ts Edit: I admit the 60 fps are not really everyday files (but good to show the limits) RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.5 - 2014/12/22] - movie78 - 2014-12-24 (2014-12-24, 07:06)Matt Devo Wrote:kodi update will change the folder structure.(2014-12-24, 06:47)movie78 Wrote: Hi Matt:OpenELEC betas/RCs, if set to auto-update, will update to all subsequent betas/RCs and the eventual stable release, after which it will auto-update to future stable releases only Will this cause an issue with some of us using special skin? RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.5 - 2014/12/22] - noggin - 2014-12-24 I guess the other issue with 2160/60p content is that that HDMI 1.4 output can't carry 2160/60p 4:2:2/4:4:4 and Intel haven't done the driver trick (yet?) to add 2160/60p 4:2:0 (which is an HDMI 2.0 mode backwards compatible with HDMI 1.4 bandwith) that nVidia did. (Given that pretty much all video content released is 4:2:0 then that isn't a horrific limitation for video quality, though the UI and photos would suffer) Does the Displayport output on the Chromebox support 2160/60p? (I believe it needs "multi stream" to do this ?) RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.5 - 2014/12/22] - chclark - 2014-12-24 been lurking about for a while and was looking for somthing to replace my main raspberry pi in the living room for somthing with abit more grunt, it looks like a chromebox might just do everything i need which is play video files from my nas at up to 1080p am sorry i dont know if there anything fancy like some of you guys mention this 60p stuff i just know they are 1080p lol. which chromebox is the perfered model from what i can tell it seems to be the asus celeron with 2gb or ram is there any benifit to getting the 4gb model. if i can get one in the sales for a good price as there quite expensive in the uk otherwise it will mostlikly just be set up to run openelec. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.5 - 2014/12/22] - noggin - 2014-12-24 For OpenElec 2GB RAM is fine. I'd go for the Asus if you can - it's supposed to be a bit quieter than the HP and others. It also has a second RAM slot so you can upgrade more easily than with the HP which only has a single SODIMM slot.
