It is due to https://github.com/anxdpanic/plugin.video.youtube/commit/38a2d88e008414369937b0e04f41a81f7f7023b7 and already partially fixed in https://github.com/MoojMidge/plugin.video.youtube/commit/2bebc024e8f32f1f3a7cc01731f0b6c2481d1b5d but still more work required here.

@HeresJohnny - regarding the issue you identified about the context menu, what version of Kodi are you using across your various devices? I have replicated this in Kodi 22.
@scott967 - would you be able to check whether the context menu is opening by default when selecting video items from a plugin listing in Kodi 22?

What about it? Should have been addressed since v7.1, is it still not working?

Not much you can do. YouTube has blocked your IP because of suspected bot-like behaviour. Downloading videos is a likely cause. Unfortunately YouTube have also made changes to prevent most ways of authenticating player requests using the signed in account details.

If your IP address doesn't change then you can try logging in using an official client and maybe the ban will be removed. This may do nothing or there may be a risk that your account will be suspended too. Try using a new account just in case. Can't help any more than that.

Both, Kodi youtube and jdownloader have worked until a couple of weeks ago.
What should I do to get rid of the message and watch videos again?

if you're using a vpn or proxy then this can happen a lot more often than normal

Sure but is your fork the dev fork and anxdpanic used for releases? Want me to test off your master branch? I'm currently using anxdpanic as my upstream.

This too, but those changes happened months ago. The seemingly more recent developments has been IP addresses used by residential internet services starting to be blocked, presumably because blocking those can be far more problematic when considering the likelihood that CGNAT and non-fixed IP addresses will be involved.

Mine is dev, anxdpanic is for releases. Testing both would be good, but if only able to do one, then just anxdpanic. That way I can determine whether it is something to do with a local setup issue or some addon change, or otherwise start looking at what may have changed in Kodi itself.

I don't think it is an addon change because it happens on other addons too for me, but HeresJohnny said it only happened on this addon for them, and didn't identify what version of Kodi they were using.

Just need to confirm what happens when hitting the default select key (or whatever key has been mapped for the select action):
  • Video plays (what should happen)
  • Kodi mini context menu appears
  • Kodi full context menu appears (what now appears to happen in Kodi 22)

Unfortunately not, it stopped working again after I installed the following updates. I am running V 7.1.1.6 now.

Works fine for me. Don't think there have been any changes in v7.1.x that are related to this except for the initial implementation. Would need to see a debug log to look into it further.

Thanks, I shut down my router and restarted it after a couple of hours to get a new IP Adress from my Internet service Provider.
Now it seems to work again.
Happy :-)

Thx a lot for your quick response. When I am back home next week I will install the latest update and in case it doesn’t work I will send you the log file. Merry Christmas 🎁🎄

It was not actually what I was after, but thank you anyway because you identified something I had missed:

(2024-12-21, 02:53)scott967 Wrote: In resulting Search list select "New Search"  fail

This should now be fixed in MoojMidge/master

What I was actually looking for was something that is hopefully easier to check. Wanted to confirm what happens on your installation using Kodi 22 when hitting the default select key (or whatever key has been mapped for the select action), depending on the following setting Kodi > Settings > Media > Videos > Default select action:
  • Kodi 18 to 21
    • Default select action is Play - Video plays
    • Default select action is Choose - Kodi mini Choose context menu appears (contains Resume, Play, Show Information, More... items, with the full plugin context menu accessible via the More... context menu item)
  • Kodi 22
    • Default select action is Play - Video plays
    • Default select action is Choose - Only the full plugin context menu appears

No need to check this, had a look and saw it was due to https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/25592 which was also backported to Kodi 21, but not yet available in a point release.

RE: YouTube - flizarthanon - 2024-12-22

what's the troubleshooting procedure for failing to find the Kodi device when trying to cast from the youtube app on my phone?

RE: YouTube - flizarthanon - 2024-12-22

I solved my own problem by discovering the TubeCast addon

I can replicate the "issue" only with one of the computers where I have kodi + youtube add-on but not with the other one; it's an old laptop and I must say that I am asking from it much more than what it was designed for.
I waited ~5 seconds and the "issue" still happened, but I entered again, this time without leaving the add-on screen nor restarting kodi, and after 5 more seconds the information was properly shown.

RE: YouTube - SrTaronja - 2024-12-22

I still can't edit my posts, so this is an "edit" to my previous one:

@MoojMidge
If I wait ~10 seconds the issue still happens; apparently entering for a 2nd time, no matter how much I waited the 1st time, it fixes the "issue". However, I had to wait up to ~30 seconds in order to prevent the "issue" from happening at all. But as I say, considering the laptop's age and that it's not the best optimized computer one can sit in front of, I wouldn't worry, but if you are still interested, I uploaded the log file to paste.kodi.tv; it contains different attempts where the issue happened. I don't know if you have a way to know which of the uploaded logs is mine, just in case I copied the URL I got when I saved it (I will send it to you through a private message)
