RE: YouTube - TCCalvin - 2025-01-18

I've alao recently been seeing the "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot" message, this has only started to occur in the past 2-3 days on an install that worked fine previously.

Using version 7.1.1.6 and not using a proxy or VPN and no change in use.

RE: YouTube - jim_p - 2025-01-18

Does the message show up inside your kodi too, as a notification? Because the only place here that shows that message is the log!

It's an intermittent occurrence and shows up as a notification, when I first try to play a video. If I retry the same video it plays.

Then it is irrelevant to my issue, sorry Sad
In other news, I manually upgraded to the latest beta of 7.2 and I still have the same issue.

intermittent.  I assume youtube is rolling out some new nonsense.

RE: YouTube - jim_p - 2025-01-18

Assuming it is an api change, I want to add that youtube-viewer (perl script from trizen which uses the youtube api and the same credentials here), runs with no issues.

Been seeing this yesterday while doing testing.  Haven't ever seen it before, but I don't use the plugin that much except when I'm testing.
Code:

Reason:   Sign in to confirm you’re not a bot

FYI, I'm seeing the same thing for the last week or so. Kodi 21.1 on Android 12 Samsung S-21 YT 7.1.1.6

Intermittent occurrence that shows up as a notification, when I first try to play a video. If I retry the same video it always plays.

RE: YouTube - MoojMidge - 2025-01-19

If you are getting the Sign in to confirm you’re not a bot error then try the latest beta. However, as the error message indicates, you will also need to sign-in in the addon, or alternatively try and get a new IP address and hope you don't get blocked again.

It is the exact same issue, but because you are using Kodi 18, an additional error occurs as a result. Try https://github.com/MoojMidge/plugin.video.youtube/releases/download/v7.2.0%2Bbeta.5/plugin.video.youtube-7.2.0+beta.5.leia.1.zip

RE: YouTube - jim_p - 2025-01-19

A new ip? What year is this? Big Grin For the record, I rebooted my router 5 days ago and probably got a new one then, but the issue started on Friday.

I just downloaded and installed 7.2 beta5 from your github repo, which I bookmarked for future reference, and I will check how it goes through the day. It is infuriating that you have to update the addon like 30 times a year because the api changes for no reason and breaks it!

---edit
2 hours later and it just failed after only 2 videos and 1 short. The log of shame says the forementioned stuff about signing in, plus this bit, which shows up like 10 times in it. I have not rebooted my router yet to get a new ip... because a reboot for it takes like 5-10 minutes.

---re-edit
I tried it on my kodi 19 le installation, which is still on 7.2 beta4, and it does fail to play after 2 or 3 videos. But kodi does not freeze there, the addon just fails with the same error and then I can select another video. Then kodi will play that, the next one too, and then fail again, rinse and repeat.

RE: YouTube - h@z0 - 2025-01-19

I turned off my vpn and started to play videos. Turned it back on and I have got the sign in to confirm you’re not a bot message again. Vpn On does not work, vpn off and works fine.

Yes, this is one of the primary criteria for being blocked. Use a VPN at your own risk.

What do you expect to happen here? You haven't signed in and you have a blocked IP, the obvious result is... you will remain blocked. Note that simply resetting your router may or may not result in getting a new IP address. If you want resolve the problem then sign in, as mentioned previously.

If you are having other errors showing up in the log, then you will need to provide the full log so that it can be looked into otherwise nothing can be done, but the snippet provided indicates that your device disk I/O is simply too slow to keep up with what is being asked from it. The disk I/O operations should be attempted multiple times so it shouldn't have any significant impact on the operation of the addon.

RE: YouTube - jim_p - 2025-01-19

So there is no way to use the addon now without signing in?! Great Sad Tbh, I do not care if I have to select a video twice to make it play, I just do not want kodi to crash.
As for the device's i/o, I am run it from a usb stick that has a persistent installation of le 9.2.6 x64, for portability reasons, and such an issue has not happened all those 5+ years that I use it like so and with more i/o intensive addons.
I can provide a full log though, but this means I have to: start kodi with a "temporary profile" so as to keep mine intact + manually install youtube from the zip there + set up my keys + set up the addon like I use it. It sounds simple but it takes a lot of time, especially for the keys.

About the ips. Does it help to say that I see the same issue on a libreelec-aml 9.2.16 installation that got a fresh ip just yesterday? Different keys etc, but not signed in to an account too.
If it does not, I want to add that I connected to my neighbor's wifi and, when trying to play anything, it failed from the very first vid. Actually, the first vid poped the unable to play error and the second one made kodi freeze as usual.

I'm getting this login thing now as well and I have never used a VPN or TOR for that matter.

This coupled with the 6 hour limit thing has made me question why am I bothering trying to make the addon work for me? It clearly doesn't.

I am more than happy to use Free Download Manager:

https://www.freedownloadmanager.org/

With the elephant addon:

https://github.com/meowcateatrat/elephant

To download youtube videos to my NAS (got plenty of space left. The NAS is running under linux with DLNA running so I can play the videos throughout my house)

RE: YouTube - MoojMidge - 2025-01-20

It is irrelevant what your own choices are or what your motivations are. You are free to do whatever you want and the consequences of that are entirely up to you.

If you want to use this addon and you are being blocked for bot like behaviour you will need to login. If you don't want to do that, then simply move on and use whatever alternative works for you.

Regardless any alternative that you choose to use will be impacted in exactly the same way, and the only workarounds are to login or get an unblocked IP address. As mentioned previously simply restarting your router is not guaranteed to get a new IP address, let alone an unblocked one, especially if your ISP is using CGNAT.

Using tools to download rather stream videos, sharing IP addresses with a neighbour, using a VPN or proxy, are all things that are very likely to trigger the block, but you can try your luck and see how you go.
