Thanks for the heads up, so far so good with 7.2.0 beta 4 for me too.

RE: YouTube - bug2k19 - 2025-01-22

Version 7.2.0 beta 4 is currently working for me too.

RE: YouTube - MoojMidge - 2025-01-22

@jim_p - As mentioned previously what you believe is both incorrect and not relevant to this discussion.

You have been advised what you need to do to resolve this issue and have chosen not to do that.

It is no surprise that you continue to get blocked when you refuse to follow the advice given to you. Complaining about it because you think you know better and spreading misinformation is just wasting everyone's time.

Can't keep spending time trying to help someone who doesn't want to be helped, so you are on your own from here on out.

Good luck with figuring things out, but I would request that you refrain from posting further off-topic responses, that only serve to distract others from following along with the relevant discussions.

Perhaps also look upon this as an opportunity to review the forum rules and consider what you are actually trying to achieve by carrying on in this manner.

@petes 2.0 - there has been a fix available for this issue for more than two weeks, but there can be a lot of unhelpful noise in this forum thread at times. Not sure what the agenda is.

To everyone else - you all have the ability to contribute to the ongoing effort of keeping this addon updated by properly reporting issues and providing debug logs. This last issue has been going on for a month but only 3 people bothered to provide debug logs to help get it resolved.

Nothing can be one about the issues you may be experiencing if you do not provide relevant information and debug logs, and every single one of you who post in this thread when you have a problem are perfectly capable of doing this.

Contribute to the solution, don't become part of the problem.

[font][font]Hello can you help me please, if I understood correctly, update to beta version YT addon should help. How I can do it? In Kodi repository I can see only version 7.1.1.6[/font][/font]

RE: YouTube - WoGGo - 2025-01-22

Updated to 7.2.0 beta 4 for the same reasons as everyone else.

Completed the "Sign In", but still get an error playing a video, then later asks me to Sign In again.. any thoughts?

RE: YouTube - JNRW - 2025-01-22

OK, have gone through the sign in procedure, including two factor authentication, after receiving the “bot” notification and received a message saying it was all successful but it is not, so my question is, is there a time delay between receiving said success notification and actually being able to access YouTube?

RE: YouTube - Alyyy - 2025-01-22

Hi,

Same here, problem "sign in to confirm you are not a bot"

RE: YouTube - jim_p - 2025-01-22

@MoojMidge
On posts 2832 and 2835 you had clearly said about my ip being blocked and the possibility of being behind cgnat. And I proved that this is not the case in every way possible, with proof. Obviously, I can not share the public ip addresses from every method I used! But the ip (or any sort of blockage) was not the case, so we end this here and we are moving on.

If one solution is to upgrade to the beta of 7.2, it is rejected because of the cpu usage issue. However, because I had an issue a few months ago with 7.0.x (annoying delays on python2, mentioned it in github), I have good faith that one day this cpu usage issue will also be resolved.
If the other solution is to login with credentials, I will do it. Not with MY credentials that I have already used to get api keys, but I will. Right now I prefer this one over the upgrade to 7.2, because I value my hardware (proof here*) more than my privacy. So, which one would you recommend?

One last thing. Is it my job, as an end user, to know about any changes in the api that break functionality, let alone discover them every day? Definitely not! Is it your job, as a developer, to know about these changes? I sincerely hope not! Is it their job, as api owners/devs, to announce any critical changes that they make? Definitely yes!

RE: YouTube - blueribb - 2025-01-22

Installing 7.2 beta 4 fixed the BOT issue for me.

RE: YouTube - PanicAndy - 2025-01-22

With regards to needing an API key (whether the developer keys or blank keys that don't work if YouTube blocks the IP)...
Years ago I heard  "...that [neither] playing nor downloading is the problem, but rather listing videos is. NewPipe solved this issue by scraping YouTube"
  1. This was never true
  2. This used to be true, years ago, but has since changed
  3. This is still true but the Kodi YouTube addon is still dependent on listing videos and thus needs an API key
Is there a solution for those of us who do not what to create a Google account for an API key, but don't care about listing videos in the app?  I just want to SendToKodi a url from NewPipe.  If this YouTube plugin would forego all the other features, and just web-scrape the URL to play the stream, would that be possible?

RE: YouTube - Mickeyluv - 2025-01-22

Until a few days ago version 7.0.5 was working fine but when it stopped playing completely yesterday I upgraded to 7.1.1.6 and was getting the "sign in to prove you're not a bot" error and today updated the plugin to 7.2.0 beta 4. My API key was carried over from the previously working version but I was still being asked to sign in. After inputting the code in google.com/device all seemed to be OK but the plugin reported an OAuth 401 error repeatedly. I pasted the credentials using Kore and checked for errors - none found.

I turned off my router for a few hours to get a new IP address, and deleted the installation and associated files. Then I reinstalled the plugin and recreated new credentials and again pasted them in, but still the same OAuth 401 error.

There's a big difference with the new credentials though; the keys are similar in composition and length, but the API ID and secret have changed to similar to this;

Previously:
API ID  youtubeAPI
API Secret  youtubeapi-123456

Now:
API ID 123456789123-kssf04oq7ur2hpud5rc8ovvnmt99b6gb.apps.googleusercontent.com
API Secret XXXXXX-j5l5xSkhvhdDWYT7Zpp6Zchs3Z_Z

Have I done something wrong?

Coming to add to the comments, If you download 7.2.0 Beta 4, https://github.com/anxdpanic/plugin.video.youtube/releases/tag/v7.2.0%2Bbeta.4 it works for me now.

Can you be more specific?   It works for you.  But are you logged in with username/password, do you have your custom API key set?

RE: YouTube - otinley - 2025-01-22

The latest beta did not fix it for me.
As the previous poster described, YT addon wants to verify I am not a bot.
Re-entering credentials and trying to re-authorize device result in an invalid device error within the addon.
This happens in both the current release 4.16 and 4.20 beta on either Kodi 21.2 & Kodi 22.

Code:

Can you be more specific?
Are you creating and using API keys, or just using the app's Sign-In wizard that has you going to a logged in device with the code?
