RE: Amazon Fire TV for XBMC - awp0 - 2014-04-02 This thing seems kind of unremarkable. Looks like a faster Roku IMO. RE: Amazon Fire TV for XBMC - keNny79 - 2014-04-02 I would be great if it supports passtrough of HD-Audio, so i can sell my RPi. RE: Amazon Fire TV for XBMC - ~Craig~ - 2014-04-02 Very interested in this if anyone can get XBMC onto it. Do we think the USB port at the back will be powerful enough to connect a standard 2.5" hard drive? You should be able to enable installations from "Unknown Sources" just like the Kindle Fire. Super, keep us updated RE: Amazon Fire TV for XBMC - ozkhan1 - 2014-04-02 Wait.. Why r we saying this has android. I didn't see the mention of Android on their specs. RE: Amazon Fire TV for XBMC - elmerohueso - 2014-04-02 (2014-04-02, 20:44)ozkhan1 Wrote: Wait.. RE: Amazon Fire TV for XBMC - awp0 - 2014-04-02 Yeah, the Android part makes it interesting. But does anyone know if it's locked down? And even then, is it really much better than an Ouya? It sounds fast, but it seems like people like the performance of the Ouya too. I'd still MUCH MUCH rather have XBMC than plex (hence why I'm here on this forum). RE: Amazon Fire TV for XBMC - Anastrophe - 2014-04-02 I've order one too, I'd be interested to hear from those that receive their's this week if the power supply is dual voltage. The thing that stands out is Plex is making its way onto consumer products that XBMC isn't on. While you do have to pay for apps and some sort of pass you have a lot of options with Plex. RE: Amazon Fire TV for XBMC - Anastrophe - 2014-04-02 Plex is a business, xbmc is a movement RE: Amazon Fire TV for XBMC - Mr. Beefhead - 2014-04-02 (2014-04-02, 21:01)awp0 Wrote: Yeah, the Android part makes it interesting. "Amazon used three pillars of what competitor devices like Roku, Apple TV, and Chromecast do wrong—search, performance/slow apps, and a closed ecosystem—to illustrate what Fire TV does right. Amazon's device is a box you plug into your TV that runs on an open Android ecosystem" http://gizmodo.com/amazons-fire-tv-everything-you-need-to-know-1556889628 Seems pretty exciting to me. I'd think a device like this could have the potential to become the new obvious choice for an off the shelf, inexpensive XBMC box. RE: Amazon Fire TV for XBMC - tommyguard3 - 2014-04-02
Won't allow me to subscribe to the thread so just posting a comment so I can see people's success/failure with running xbmc on the Amazon Fire TV. Good luck, I'm very excited.
