Installation - install from zip or replace files directly in addons folder. Then just logout from youtube and log back. If there was still issue with quota/unknown kind then logout and login again. Every login a random credentials are chosen/propably new pool is chosen.
I did this on three machines and it worked first time on each one. After you installed 5.1.17, logged out and pressed login, did it generate 2 activation codes for youtube.com/activate ?

I get 'Bad request' errors now with version 5.1.17. I have API keys ready but I would need to be able to actually use them.
Anyone else getting these bad request errors? kodi.log is not giving me a lot of details..

I forgot to delete the folder in userdata named 'addon_data/plugin.video.youtube'.
Works now.
Though it would be awesome if I could use my own API codes somewhere in the interface...? For now, I'll just change the credential pool..

Locate the file - login_client.py
(On Windows it's located here - C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\addons\plugin.video.youtube\resources\lib\youtube\client
Within the file login_client.py find the section that corresponds to the version of KODI that you're using in my case I'm running version 15.2

Set the Key to the Browser API key you created first
Set the ID to the OAuth Client ID you created second

Then launch KODI
Select the YOUTUBE Addon
Select SIGN IN
Then do the 2 x activation thing where you go to
youtube.com/activate
Enter the code from KODI, click NEXT then click ALLOW

And that should be it... mine seems to be working...
Hi. Followed these instructions and the plug works now using my keys, except for the "My Subscriptions" heading (I think, sorry not at my console now) that aggregates new content from my subscribed channels. The subscribed channels themselves appear just fine in "Subscriptions." Any insight as to what may be causing this?

Hi, Is somebody planning to do a fork for this Youtube addon. Because I just can't get it working. I'm not any sort of programmer, just somebody who uses kodi and the youtube addon to watch youtube on the TV. I don't even sign in to it. I just use the search and watch what I want from what that returns. I'm not really interested in doing much else with it.
But now even that basic functionality is broken, there seems to be no way to watch youtube any more with Kodi. I couldn't follow any of the suggested fixes because it won't let me uninstall it. It says something about other addons depending on it and refuses to uninstall. Even if I could do that, I'm not sure I know enough to be able to figure out what to do. I don't know much about the stuff that is described in this thread. I just use it, I don't understand all the programming stuff.
That's why I ask about this being forked and fixed. There must be lots of people like me that can't fix this. And don't understand how.

Have you tried the quick fix right above your post (post # 3111). Install the zip file, log out and back in again. During login, 2 codes will be generated. Insert each code @ youtube.com/activate. The entire process takes less than 5 minutes and no programming is required. You may need a second computer to access youtube.com/activate depending on the operating system you are running.

Great job! It works better than it ever has for me. How can I go about donating anything to you for your time? I use the youtube app almost everyday so this has really made a big difference for me that it is working again ;-) Thanks for helping everyone out.

Thanks for the update file. I have tried this on a few installs of Kodi and it works mostly ok with only two exceptions....

Live = Project marked for deletionI am very happy I can now use YouTube addon for Kodi again. I don't really use the "Browse channels" and "Live" categories, I just mention it so you are aware they are not working for me. Has anyone else had this problem?
