RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.9 - 2015/01/23] - VanillaXtract - 2015-01-25 (2015-01-24, 05:40)Matt Devo Wrote: FYI, I added a proper legacy BIOS (SeaBIOS) for Haswell ChromeBook users, who can now safely use the dual boot features of the script. It's completely transparent, and I'd appreciate it if you could give it a test for me. Just run the script and choose the legacy BIOS update option (#4)I gave it a test. Now when I boot OpenELEC with the HDMI connected. Unlike with the 01/07 bios, the chromebook screen still works. But the HDMI out doesn't work. Most of your older SeaBIOS worked for my chromebooks. Is there a way to see what version is installed? If so, I can tell you what version is on my C720 that has one of your custom bios and hdmi out works. In the meantime, is there a way to restore the stock bios without a restore? RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.9 - 2015/01/23] - VanillaXtract - 2015-01-25 I checked my C720, the script version that is on there is 2.2 and I believe the HDMI out used to work. Right now for some reason when I hit ctrl+l at startup it beeps twice and continues booting to ChromeOS. If so, I can tell you what version is on my C720 that has one of your custom bios and hdmi out works. that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, since the VGA BIOS configuration is what affects the init of the built-in display and the enumeration of outputs. The early SeaBIOS versions (circa script version 2.2) used the stock one from the ChromeBox (and now do again), which is why I added the separate build for the ChromeBooks, which have a differently configured VGA BIOS. you can see what version is installed by booting the legacy BIOS with a USB stick inserted, which should give you 5 sec to bring up the boot menu, after which you can read the date-stamped version string (the date is the last part). you can restore the stock legacy BIOS by extracting it from the backup copy of the firmware on the system and re-flashing it: Code: sudo chromeos-firmwareupdate --sb_extract /tmp (2015-01-25, 19:12)VanillaXtract Wrote: I checked my C720, the script version that is on there is 2.2 and I believe the HDMI out used to work. Right now for some reason when I hit ctrl+l at startup it beeps twice and continues booting to ChromeOS. either no valid legacy bios is loaded, or the flag to enable it isn't set. check: Code: sudo crossystem dev_boot_legacy if it's 0, set it to 1 Code: sudo crossystem dev_boot_legacy=1 RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.9 - 2015/01/23] - VanillaXtract - 2015-01-25 Legacy boot was set to 0. I set it to 1 and booted to legacy. I connected the HDMI and booted, the output was on the TV and I was able to disable the the built-in screen. Inserting a USB didn't slow the process down, but I took a video and got it that way. The date is 20140906. I want to say I had a working one with a later date than that, but I can't be sure. EDIT: In fact, I know I had a later one because I used a script that installed Kodi shortly after it was finalized and the HDMI out worked as expected. I attempted the OpenELEC/ChromeOS dual boot setup and ended up stuck at the "Booting from Hard Disk" issue I have read so much about. I ran the setup several times more with no luck. At this point I should have jumped on here and asked some questions but I wanted to solve this on my own and didn't think I would ever use ChromeOS so I went ahead and tried the OpenELEC standalone setup. After flashing the firmware and creating the OpenELEC installation USB stick I rebooted and was presented with the "ESC to boot from USB" prompt but the escape key didn't work and I ended up back at the "Boot from Hard Disk" message. I rebooted hoping I would get the "ESC" prompt again but no luck I can only get to the "Boot from Hard Disk" message. I can't seem to do anything at this point. I can only see the "Booting from..." message almost instantly after turning on the machine. I think I bricked it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Is there info on how to get it to boot from a USB stick and how to build a ChromeOS stick if it is different than a recovery stick built using the Google tool? If you want to do that, and then do a dual boot setup, there are instructions on the wiki to do so. but since you already have the standalone setup, I'd just install OpenELEC like you planned. If you tried two different keyboards and neither worked, I'd be curious to know the model #s. And if you're not getting the 'press ESC' text at all, you should just create a fresh installer (info on wiki). But either way, you need to boot from a USB stick and need a working keyboard to do that. Once you have that, either path should be straightforward. Try another USB drive. I had exactly the same experience as you. Initial 'ESC to boot from USB' but in my case I was late hitting ESC. And after that I was only getting 'Boot from Hard Disk' message. My keyboard was fine but the culprit was the USB thumb drive.. and it was a brand new recently bought 4gb drive. I had an 4yrs old 16gb OCZ USB drive so I downloaded the disk image from openelec's site onto it and lo and behold it finally showed the "ESC to boot from USB". So I suggest trying any other USB drive. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.9 - 2015/01/23] - sjskent - 2015-01-26 I have the HP box loaded with openelec in duel boot. I have a lot of lag/freezing when scrolling through my video library and was wondering if upgrading the ram to 8gig might help this? Any suggestions? Any suggestions? unlikely, since OE barely uses 1GB of ram, let alone the 2 you have installed. But this question is probably best handled in the general Kodi support forum since it's not ChromeBox specific (and there's likely already threads there discussing the issue). Also, thanks for the script! Super easy to install. I did go ahead and add an 8gig stick. I have a large library and it was acting like it was slowing down with the more thumbs that were loading. It seems to be running much smoother now with the extended RAM. Movie thumbs are loading super fast and i can quickly scroll from the top of my library to the bottom with zero lag. If i see any more lag ill report it back. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.9 - 2015/01/23] - BigladUK - 2015-01-26 Did you only have 2gb before ?
