RE: [released] Official XBMC Remote for iOS - hubfred - 2012-08-07

Thanks to your useful hints I could narrow it down to one source and presumably the nfos located in there causing the problem (removed them for testing purposes). I will try to find the defective one.

But the progress so far is great.

The only button I've found that works is the "stop playback". It would end the video and close MPC bringing me back to xbmc.

Ideally, I would like to get play/stop/forward/backward/volume to work.
I think you would need XBMC to forward those commands to the external player. There is nothing else the app can do for that.

RE: [released] Official XBMC Remote for iOS - skurvish - 2012-08-08

I was wondering if it is possible to run this on the same iPad that is running XBMC? I have my iPad set up with the HDMI adapter to the TV.

I have 2 problems when attempting to do this, they may be the same issue. I think the problem has to do when XBMC loses focus on the iPad, it stops operating so that the remote cannot connect to it. I do have a copy of backgrounder and I set up xbmc to continue in the background but it doesn't seem to want to do that.

Anyone have any experience with this type of setup?

Hi. Great App.
I do, however think there might be a small bug that might affect a very small amount of users.

I have a proxy set in my wi-fi settings on my iPhone.
I noticed that when going through my proxy, I can only set XBMC on port 80, otherwise it does not make any connection.
This appears to be due to the fact that the JSON calls do not pass the port on to the proxy like some other (non JSON) requests do (i.e. requests for thumbnails etc).

I set XBMC to port 80 and the iPhone App to 8080. The following result happens .... it connects (JSON) and I can control it but cannot get thumbnails).
If I set XBMC to 8080, the app does not connect as JSON is still trying to connect on port 80.

Going direct (disabling proxy settings in wi-fi connection) works fine.

See Proxy logs below for XBMC on 80 and App on 8080:
(200 = OK, 503 = Service unavailable)

and thanks to you for your investigations! If you find the offending nfo don't forget to tell me where was the issue, so I can fix the app!

Never tried that!! (only while developing, the simulator runs in the same machine where XBMC is running)
I think that you have found the point: if XBMC doesn't run in background, it's hard that the remote app is able to communicate with it.

@AndySZA, I have to replicate your environment to try to catch the issue.

RE: [released] Official XBMC Remote for iOS - Eguchi-Harumi - 2012-08-11

I think the Play/Pause/Back/Forward buttons on the iOS remote needs to be bigger or moved to a better location where the thumb can easily reach.

If i hold the iphone like I would a regular remote the top button row is really easily to reach with my thumb, but those buttons are not used that often. The bottom row of buttons are used more often, but yet is harder to reach with the thumb.

I didn't want to hijack this thread so I made a new thread here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=138140

Sorry if that was the wrong thing to do and you are indeed meant to ask your support questions relating to the iOS app here.

@Tucker.dale
no problem, I answered there

@Eguchi-Harumi, good observation

RE: [released] Official XBMC Remote for iOS - kricker - 2012-08-12

@Eguchi-Harumi
I have a simple plan in mind.

RE: [released] Official XBMC Remote for iOS - Eguchi-Harumi - 2012-08-15

How do I map the iOS buttons to something else?

Trying to use the addon SimplePlaylist (http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Add-on:SimplePlaylists) with the remote, but since you use the http api calls to send keys, how do i map it with keyboard.xml (http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Keyboard.xml)

Is there a way to map the iOS button to use "RunPlugin(plugin://script.simpleplaylists/?mode=addCurrentUrl)" instead of SendKey() api?

RE: [released] Official XBMC Remote for iOS - magnosantos - 2012-08-15

First of all sorry of this was already answered.

My Question is: I have XBMC installed on my Windows HTPC/Server (Windows Home Server 2011), and for now i only use the iPad version of Official XBMC Remote to control it.

What i would like to know, is if there is any way to launch XBMC with the remote. In Idle the consumes 6% to 8% of CPU not allowing it to be at full idle and thus, consume less power. Currently XBMC launches with Windows.

(2012-07-13, 07:58)live4ever Wrote: The "virtual keyboard" doesn't seem to work for me (OpenELEC 11.0 Eden). For example:

During video playback:
"P" doesn't play-pause
"I" doesn't bring up info
"M" doesn't bring up menu

In movie library:
"W" doesn't mark watched/unwatched
"Shift+letter" doesn't jump to that in list

I can type letters into the search window but it's pretty laggy.

1) I am having the exact same problem. Really don't care about the P, I. and M as I prefer the player controls. The W is a huge must for me. What's interesting is that the www.mobilemouse.com app keyboard works.

2) Additionally, the "Toggle GUI Fullscreen" button also does not work.

RE: [released] Official XBMC Remote for iOS - unabatedshagie - 2012-08-24

Couple of suggestions I'd like to see implemented.

1. No matter how deep you are into any section, if you hold down on the back button for a second or so get taken back to the main menu.
2. When displaying TV shows disregard the word The if it's in front of a title. Like show The Wire in the W's and not in with the T's.

RE: [released] Official XBMC Remote for iOS - EndersShadow - 2012-08-25

I just found this app and first of all THANK YOU!

I am building a HTPC (more like a music file server/ripping/playback machine) for the sole purpose of storing and sending lossless audio to a USB DAC and headphone amp (Audio GD NFB-5) and am trying to run this entire system headless using my iPhone. This app and XBMC seem to be the best pairing so far. I have looked at iTunes, JRiver, MediaMonkey, VLC Media Player and all have issues with controlling them with their remote control apps or with playing back audio via WASAPI.

I have 2 questions for you guys. I apologize in advance if they have been asked and answered before.

I am planning on making this system totally stand alone and am planning on installing a wireless card in the HTPC for the sole purpose of creating a ad-hoc network for the iPhone to connect to and using that network for the XBMC remote.

So question 1: Will the remote app work when connected to an ad-hoc network?

I am testing all this on my main PC right now which has the FLAC music I am playing back on a different drive. Currently when I click on "Listen to Music" I dont see anything listed, but XBMC see's it fine. When its all on my HTPC all the music will be in one spot on one drive.

Question 2: Is the reason I am not seeing my music in the library in the app right now because its on a different drive than XBMC or am I missing a setting somewhere?

I thank you in advance for you responses!

Hello,

Since last nightlies XBMC Remotes for iPad (Official XBMC Remote, XBMC Commander) crashes when videos are playing, After videos stop, App works again, but there's no way to Pause or Stop or do whatever during the playback.

Has any one having this issue?
