RE: Discuss improvements for pvr section - negge - 2014-05-27

Quote:I'm sure it can be made though, it's pretty obvious this screen should be able to hide itself once selecting a channel.
Might need to look into this on a skin level, that's the only coding I can do and it might be possible.

There's an option for that, something like "Close channel OSD after switching". You may need to increase the settings level in other to see it, and obviously this is Gotham stuff so if you're using Frodo you'll have to upgrade. What skin is that by the way?

Quote:Nope, it's not the standard behaviour but at least a lot of people will be happy with my fix

It must be standard behavior since I don't have anything related to the OSD in my keymap yet still it changes groups on left/right.

Quote:I strongly disagree but it's an easy fix anyways. To me and some other Dutchies on IRC it's really odd and since I can fix it myself this is good enough for me.
Again this is a sample why I love how customizable xbmc is.

@xhaggi is working on a major technical rewrite of the PVR windows and in some screenshots I've seen it's actually called "Guide" now instead of "EPG", so it seems you'll maybe have your way after all.

Quote:It has been banned since 2003 here and pretty much all channel but some comply.
To bad you don't like such plugin but I hope someone else that can code in the community shares my problem and decides to do something about it

It's not that I don't like it, it's that it's technically impossible to implement this anywhere but the XBMC core, and even then it would probably only work sometimes. If it was easy to do don't you think all TVs would have such a feature integrated?

I'm on Gotham but that option (the one that I see) does something completely else. The only other conclusion I can think of it's related to the skin but that shouldn't be.

This is what I can see and tried all sort of settings, so maybe I'm overlooking one? Switching to other skins won't give me more settings.

It's eminence with some of my edits which you can find here;
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=187071
Still got a lot of ideas of my own which I'll also share but at the moment I got no time for it, so that'll have to wait for a few weeks.
This is one of the few skins that feels right to me, you maybe able to tell why but it does. Both the way it looks but as importantly how it navigates.
Must admit I'm really picky if it concerns skins, I've spent many hours improving on them the way I like them on several software.

You won't hear me say it's easy as I've honestly no clue as I'm not a coder. But it can't be impossible either. I know I had it working on mediaportal before like a thread and can't remember why I didn't fix it on my new htpc.

Woppie, are you sure you are on Gotham? Perhaps the skin you are using is outdated. There is supposed to be an extra button in the settings window, at the bottom: Settings level
If you enable "Expert" settings level in the settings window. You will get a lot more options then. Among others "Close channel OSD after switching channels".

It's right here. You have to press up, when in the menu, to select it.

@Whoppie - jmedemar is correct, change your settings level to advanced/expert

RE: Discuss improvements for pvr section - Woppie - 2014-05-27

I found it, but could swear it wasn't there before. Believe thanx are in order.
Probably testing since Frodo I haven't really noticed the changes there somehow, let alone thinking of expert settings.
Though channel switching became somewhat slower, it would display the channel information even while turned off.
In the end it's not bad, now that it works I might even start a skin of my own soon Smile

You're saying the option to not show the channel information doesn't work?

RE: Discuss improvements for pvr section - cyrils - 2014-05-28

Hi all. I have a small suggestion for a possible usability option which would be: in the EPG Timeline view if you press select on a programme that's currently airing the client should switch to that channel, but if it's to be aired then it should open the further info window. At present it either switches to the channel or pops up the info window - this would be a happy medium.

Also, with popup windows during fullscreen live TV, could we have an option to auto hide the window after a given amount of time? The windows I refer to are the channel number input window, the epg and the channel list.

Finally, could a mini-EPG be added so that it's easier to see now/next/later for a range of channels without going full EPG?

Let me try to explain it by captions as I'm best with that.

It will show this info for like 1-1,5 seconds about half to 1/3rd of the time but channel switching is always slower by this amount of time.

With this settings:

If I keep the OSD channel guide on you'll never get the info plus channel switching is faster by the time it took to show the channel info..
Believe the word is inconsistent here.

RE: Discuss improvements for pvr section - Maniac - 2014-05-28

Have your tried to disable the first option "Show channel information when switching channels", and enble the seccond one "Automaticly hide channel information" and set the amount of seconds for it to appear?

btw: what skin are you using?

RE: Discuss improvements for pvr section - da-anda - 2014-05-28

@manic skin is Eminence (Gotham only, still WIP, see skin section in forum)
@Whoppie have you tested it in Confluence as well? Eminence is still WIP and has bugs

I tried all variations of those settings to no avail.
Eminence.

Several skins and all the same behavior. Also I can't think of why it would be related to the skin.

RE: Discuss improvements for pvr section - Maniac - 2014-05-29

It might have something to do with the skin. I use AeonNox 4 and 5. And when switching channels via the Channel OSD, the dialog closes, and no infobar is present. The switch is very fast.

Try it on Confluence as a standard, it's as bad there just like I said.
For me it's really easy to reproduce, if you'd like I can try to capture it through some screen capture software and upload it on like youtube.
Still "fast" and "fast" is relative, channel switching takes like 2,5 seconds now which actually isn't that bad as my set top box also does that,
but I know my htpc is capable of doing it almost immediately in like half a second.
Again I can reproduce this with a 100% rate.

To me channels switch instantly, what version you use?
