RE: New Home for Ember Media Manager (Official Thread) - Legion455 - 2013-03-22

Hey all,

Using 1.3.0.9 with XBMC 12 / Linux.

When I do a library update,... some of my movies display like so ...

Image

XBMC is using a "thumb" image for those two, .. looks like a screeenshot of the movie reduced in size ,.,, ie, a small fanart.

digging deeper, I find that only movies that have multiple parts show this problem. ...
my naming convention using EMM is (coming over from popcorn/YAMJ)
is
<movie>.cd1.avi
<movie>.cd1-poster.jpg
<movie>.cd1-fanart.jpg
<movie>.cd2.avi

now, if I re-name my movies to ...

<movie>.cd1.avi
<movie>-poster.jpg
<movie>-fanart.jpg
<movie>.cd2.avi

then XBMC will display the correct thumbnails on the movie index screen.

soooo my questions are:

1. what naming convention should I be using?
2. How or What options do I select in EMM to create the correct poster and fanart filenames?

thanks
Legion

PS. also tried -cd1 and -cd2 ... no help

Hi,

(2013-03-22, 14:15)Legion455 Wrote: <movie>.cd1.avi
<movie>-poster.jpg
<movie>-fanart.jpg
<movie>.cd2.avi

Is the correct format you should be using. This is down to XBMC not Ember.

I cannot remember exactly where the setting is but their is a tick box that will enable this naming convention. in the newewr ember version.

Cheers

I fired up EMM the other day and for some reason my media share drives weren't mapped. As a result, when I updated the library EMM showed all blank files.

No big deal, I just re-built the library and everything showed back up..... but....

The problem is that I switched the config on EMM a month or so ago to "frodo" and now that it's re-built the db it doesn't think any of my older movies (over 350 of them) have "posters". I tried to go back into the EMM config and set it for <movie>.jpg to be a poster also but for some reason EMM does not show that any of those movies have posters even after I cleaned the DB.

Any ideas?

You mistake was deselecting the old image types, EMM won't display artwork that's not enabled, if you enable them and use Reload as suggested above it should work, the drawback is EMM will then create old and new image types for any new stuff added.

Why not just convert your old image types there's plenty of apps to do this easily, I personally use "Flexible Renamer" as its free.

If reload doesn't work then your just have to rebuild your db with those images enabled which really doesn't take long as it only has to load them.

Ah, you jogged my brain and helped me figure out what the problem was. I had re-selected "movie.jpg" and reloaded with no success, when what I needed to do was select "<movie>.jpg" and then reload. Problem solved.

I think it will be more challenging than a simple rename to take a bunch of <movie>.jpg files and re-name them to <movie>-poster.jpg.

VoIP - try downloading a copy of Bulk Rename Utility. It worked wonders for me. It's GUI-based and has some pretty advanced capabilities to assist with the renaming process.

some changes to multi-disc movie stacking in frodo, which, while a pain in the ass to adjust to, is nicer moving forward.

if you have:

<moviename>-cd1.mpg
<moviename>-cd2.mpg
<moviename>-cd3.mpg

the rest of your files should just be <moviename> without the -cdx part, e.g.:
<moviename>.nfo
<moviename>-poster.jpg
<moviename>-fanart.jpg

Both EMM and XBMC look for this convention now. As with my recommendation to VoIP, grab a copy of Bulk Rename Utility and it will help you quickly find those files and strip out the cdx parts as needed.

There are a few ways to rename your posters with "Flexible Renamer", some are easy and some more complex, anything you do is reversible in case you make a mistake which is very unlikely as you get a preview of the renamed files.

Here's the easiest way I could think of.

First you need to remove the file extension from all your fanart.jpg images (doesn't matter what naming convention they're using) this is so you can exclude them from the poster rename.

http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/394/removefanartextention2.jpg

Add "-poster" to your existing posters

http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/5216/addposter2.jpg

Replace file extension to your fanart images

http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/294/replacefanartextention2.jpg

If its not obvious all you just need to do is copy the same "SrcString" and "DestString" I've used in each.

If you have sub folders ie actor thumbs or extra fanart your need to adjust the recursive folder depth, as your see I have it set at "1" in the screen shots.

RE: New Home for Ember Media Manager (Official Thread) - myron - 2013-03-22

why so complicated? just rename to poster.jpg(png)...
(assuming you have one movie per folder)
and fanart.jpg IS fine.

full naming convention

see paragraph 1.8

dunno if Ember will do a cleanup/rename of existing images, but there are some other tools / other media managers for this...

Your renaming (without CD*) is correct. But XBMC has a problem to reload new posters if you change filenames after first scan.

Try this:
- Remove the bad movies from DB and exit XBMC.
- delete the "textures13.db" file from UserData folder C:\Users\*\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\....
- start XBMC and make a DB-Update

If you look back in this thread you see that's what I recommended doing, I've always used images without the file name.

I wouldn't call a few clicks complicated if you want <movie>-poster.jpg

RE: New Home for Ember Media Manager (Official Thread) - myron - 2013-03-22

you're right - i missed your post.
this thread is goin too fast Big Grin

complicated not your workflow (although you're renaming possible PNGs to JPGs when stripping off the extension)
I meant why to use a complicated <moviename>-poster.jpg syntax when a simple poster.jpg will be fine Smile
nevermind.

keep goin' Smile

Cant happen "SrcString" specifically states fanart.jpg, fanart.png wouldn't even be included in the list you would have to actually use "SrcString" fanart.png.

You could end up with "fanart.png.jpg" though if you had both fanart.jpg and fanart.png already, not sure why you would have them though as I don't believe older builds of XBMC used pngs and EMM doesn't create them either.

Using a different file extension instead of removing it would solve that problem, or just use Flexible Renamer again to clean those files up.

RE: New Home for Ember Media Manager (Official Thread) - Legion455 - 2013-03-22

Well, .. I renamed all movies as you suggested (per below), loaded EMM 1.3 r10,... but if the movie has multiple parts, it does 'not' recognize the poster, nfo, or fanart. Sad
but, on a side note, ... I reloaded the library in XBMC .. with updated filenames,... and all covers are displayed correctly now.

thanks for any help!

PS, yes, deleted and reloaded the source folder.

If all else fails remove your "Media.emm" make sure you select "XBMC Frodo" and save it to config, do this before you add your source again then update your library in Ember.

That way your get a brand new db, if your image names are correct it should work.

I've experienced db's not updating correctly both in EMM and XBMC especially when paths and names remain the same.

Don't delete your "Media.emm" then you can always put it back Wink

RE: New Home for Ember Media Manager (Official Thread) - Legion455 - 2013-03-23

hmmm

EMM 1.3 r10 , .... looks like for multipart movies ... it's creating the nfo this way:

<movie>-.nfo

instead of <movie>.nfo

hope this helps

I'll try deleting, then reloading the db

RE: New Home for Ember Media Manager (Official Thread) - Legion455 - 2013-03-23

Sorry man, none of that worked .... EMM "wants" nfo's to look like <movie>-.nfo for multipart movies.

I could be wrong ... but this is what I'm seeing. Sad

Here's what the movie folder looks like:

<movie>.nfo was already there...

What I did:
Opened up r10, ... set options, Frodo, Movie Source ...

opened up TOOLS, SETS , .. added "Operation Pacific" to the John Wayne Collection, ... closed Sets, .. closed EMM...
