RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.12 - 2015/02/09] - extinguisher - 2015-02-11 Thanks Matt it's all clear now. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.12 - 2015/02/09] - mlrtime3 - 2015-02-11 Could someone help me out? I followed the instructions for single boot openelec. I copied the install media to the usb drive which the chromebox detected fine. However on reboot there is no option to boot from usb, the chromebox boots directly to "Booting from Hard Disk..." I put the usb drive in my laptop and I see the install files.... what could be wrong? Thanks RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.12 - 2015/02/09] - Matt Devo - 2015-02-11 (2015-02-11, 18:45)mlrtime3 Wrote: Could someone help me out? RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.12 - 2015/02/09] - mlrtime3 - 2015-02-11 I did not, thanks. Looking at this now http://kodi.wiki/view/Chromebox#Troubleshooting 5.1 Dual Booting The most common issue with dual boot setups is being stuck on the black SeaBIOS boot screen, with the "booting from hard disk" text displayed. 99% of the time, this is due to not having performed a factory reset using the recovery media, as listed in the Device Prep section above. Simply perform the factory reset, then re-run the dual boot setup using the script as before. I did perform a factory reset as the very first step. I'll try this again. However on reboot there is no option to boot from usb, the chromebox boots directly to "Booting from Hard Disk..." Just went through this yesterday. Apparently the chromebox is quite picky about flash drives. None of the three that I had would work. I had to run to the store and buy a new one. I then downloaded the openelec img file and wrote it to the new usb flash drive using dd. Stuck it in the cb and rebooted and then I finally got the "press esc" prompt to be able to boot from it. Thanks ToBeFrank, did the chromebox detect your USB drive when you copied the backup or copied the image from the installer and then didn't boot? That is what I'm seeing. Or did it not detect at all, copying or booting? Thanks RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.12 - 2015/02/09] - Matt Devo - 2015-02-12 (2015-02-12, 00:55)mlrtime3 Wrote: Thanks ToBeFrank, did the chromebox detect your USB drive when you copied the backup or copied the image from the installer and then didn't boot? You should not be copying anything manually in order to create the installation media RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.12 - 2015/02/09] - mlrtime3 - 2015-02-12 (2015-02-12, 00:58)Matt Devo Wrote:(2015-02-12, 00:55)mlrtime3 Wrote: Thanks ToBeFrank, did the chromebox detect your USB drive when you copied the backup or copied the image from the installer and then didn't boot? That is what I'm seeing. When you update the coreboot firmware, it asks you if you want to backup to a usb drive. I did this and the OS detected the USB drive and copied the rom file. Also, on the next step , I was able to successfully create the openelec installer using the same usb drive. This same usb drive will not boot on the chromebox. I verified the copy was good using a laptop to test the usb drive. So I was asking if he saw the same thing, or did the chromebox not detect the usb drive when backing up or copying the openelec image. In the meantime, just follow the instructions (in the wiki) to redo the OE install media from another machine and try again RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.12 - 2015/02/09] - ToBeFrank - 2015-02-12 (2015-02-12, 01:02)mlrtime3 Wrote: When you update the coreboot firmware, it asks you if you want to backup to a usb drive. This was before purchasing the new usb stick, though. Also, the os x installer in the tar.gz file always failed to create the usb installer. I then downloaded the .img and used dd to write it to the usb. Finally, it was successful booting. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.12 - 2015/02/09] - bhampton - 2015-02-12 Can I make OpenElec use more RAM?... I had 8GB from another system and put them into my Chromebox but it's just a waste since it uses maybe 4% of Ram.... I wonder if there is any way to make it use more RAM?... Maybe it could help somehow... RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.12 - 2015/02/09] - Matt Devo - 2015-02-12 (2015-02-12, 02:46)bhampton Wrote: Can I make OpenElec use more RAM?... yes, it's a complete waste. OE runs perfectly well on 1GB of ram even, and "forcing" it to use more would have no measurable impact. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [v3.12 - 2015/02/09] - BenH - 2015-02-12 (2015-02-12, 01:19)Matt Devo Wrote: either way, I'm going to rework the OE install media creation since it seems to be problematic for some people Matt, have you considered removing the ability to create the OE install media from the script. Perhaps this will help people know that the script and OE are independent of each other. I know it's a very handy feature for a lot of people, but some well documented steps in the wiki might be an alternative (although then you might be flooded with questions like "now I've run the script, how do I install OE").
