RE: Arctic Horizon - lightsout - 2020-03-21

Just so I am clear, there is one view for movies? I was trying to change things and couldn't find the "sideblade menu". Totally cool with that
was just wanting to be certain I wasn't missing something.

Yep.

I don't like the look of the landscape items being that large - that is my preference. Banner widget serves a completely different purpose to landscape widgets - which is why banner autoscrolls and other widgets don't. The banner is meant as a showcase of a single item - landscape is intended for displaying episodes.

I don't care if some people want a feature. I've constantly said in this thread that my reason for creating Arctic Horizon is that with AZ2 I tried to accommodate too many requests from users and it ended up as this horrible frankenstein skin that started to lack a clear design. So much of this thread has been dedicated to this exact point. I'm happy to take requests with clearly laid out rationales but people also have to accept that I'm going to reject some ideas, particularly if they are just rehashes of AZ2 -- If I removed it, I removed it for a reason.

If you prefer AZ2 then use AZ2... it's not that difficult.
I 100% prefer AH, it's just one widget on the home screen.

As far as "clearly laid rationales" You said,

"It's about consistency with the library viewtypes.
Submenu view matches Base Folder view in library.
Square view matches albums / addons view in library
Landscape view matches episodes / artists view in library
Poster view matches movies / tvshows view in library"
Banner view matches? nothing / nothing

How is this hard to understand?

There are five main aspect types for artwork: square (1:1), poster (~2:3), landscape (16:9), banner (10:1.85), and icon (transparent space). In the skin I want items of each aspect to be presented consistently across the *whole* skin - i.e. there is only one style per aspect type.

Landscape aspect items should look the same whether it is a home widget, in the library, or in the info dialog. I only use banner aspect in one part of the skin (widgets). If I was to use banner elsewhere, it should have the same style as it does in the widgets.

If I don't have design guidelines like these, then the skin will no longer have a consistent visual identity.

Fair enough. Thx for the response and sorry for buggering you about it. Still love the skin, thank you Smile

RE: Arctic Horizon - drinfernoo - 2020-03-22

@jurialmunkey, obviously not your problem, but I'm trying to create a custom window for an add-on, that looks like AH. I'm using skin includes for a significant portion of the window elements, in order to maintain as much consistency with the skin as possible, but am having an issue.

The add-on populates its own list control (id="1000"), and I'm adding my own actions in the <onclick> tags used by my Object_Info_Button includes... but any time I click them, it also treats that as a click on an item in my list.

My current approach has been to have two <onclick> tags, with the first either setting a different focus or closing the window, but that isn't working. Any ideas?

Can you PM me the code that you currently have and I'll have a look.

I’m interested in your take on how the kodi tvguide currently works (which looks beautiful in AH by the way), requiring two presses of the back button in order to close the guide and return to fullscreen livetv?
Would you see any value/issues in having a single press of the back button close the guide and return to fullscreen livetv/video? This is current behaviour for the tvchannels window for example, which can be closed either as an on/off toggle or using the Back command.

I’ve played around with keyboard.xml keymaps as a work around (e.g. Fullscreen on exiting tvguide window) but this is not consistent across video playing/not playing.

If it’s not possible or you don’t see any value in this, that’s cool.

Thanks.

The LiveTV navigation does need a bit of work.

I'm assuming you mean because one back press takes you to the home screen first rather than straight back to fullscreen. The problem is that with one press you get stuck in a loop if you opened live tv from the epg because back from fullscreen will take you to epg and back again will just take you back to fullscreen -- there would be no way to get out of the loop with a simple remote other than stopping playback. If you can think of a sensible solution, then I'm all ears as I do agree that going straight back to fullscreen feels more natural.

The TVChannels side menu is different because that is specifically only available in fullscreen playback (plus it is a dialog not a window).

Thanks for taking the time to explain. Yes, exactly right regarding one back press taking you to the home screen first rather than straight back to fullscreen.

If you can’t think of a solution, then I’ve got no chance. It sounds like fully closing the epg (so it’s not open in the background at all) each time you either select a channel or exit the guide would be the only way, and I’m guessing that’s not possible. Anyway, thanks again man. Loving the skin even more than AZ2, which I didn’t think I’d be saying.

Thanks, I'm cool with that, just wanted to confirm. Pretty sweet skin.

It's a screensaver. Install it from @jurialmunkey's repo, and set a path in the settings Big Grin

So I guess the path must be linked to a folder with a bunch of wallpapers in it right?

No you just link it to a widget and it displays fanart from the widget.

BUG: If you have a single widget home screen (e.g. in-progress)  and you press info and then  play on movies, it takes you back to the home screen. Only TV Shows and trailer will play.

I use a mixer of in-progress for Moves and TV . Additional Widgets>Skin Helper Service Widget>Mixed Media>In-Progress TV Shows and Movies
