RE: Arctic: Zephyr 2 - Sjors125 - 2019-03-06

@jurialmunkey I can't say it enough: great work!

2 questions: do you have icons for 4k, UHD-blu-ray and HDR-formats like HLG, HDR10, HDR10+. Technicolor HDR and Dolby Vision?
My tv, receiver and mediaplayer are 4k & HDR capable: is AZ2 skin optimised for 4k & HDR too?

4K I would think that @jurialmunkey already has icons for, as this is just another video resoution, and Kodi knows the video resolution.

As for HDR, Kodi does not "recognize" media as HDR, and that is not info, as far as I know, that is in the Kodi video database for any video.  In order for a skin to display any HDR icons, again, as far as I know, you would have to include that info in the file name of the video, and the skinner would have to look for that in order to display the icon.  I don't know whether @jurialmunkey is doing something like this in this or any of his other skins.

Bart

@bsoriano That sounds logical.

Do you happen to know if AZ2, of Kodi as such, is or can be optimised for 4k screens?

 I have a 4K TV connected to my Windows HTPC via an AVR, and the Kodi GUI looks fine in 4K (my HTPC is set to 4K resolution, and the Kodi GUI also).  I think some skins look better than others in 4K, since most are coded for HD (1080).  I think Kodi does a good job of upsacling the GUI elements to 4K.

For playing 4K HDR content, I have gone the route of using Kodi with an external player that supports madVR.  It requires a bit of extra setup and config work, but the results are outstanding.  If you are interested, there is a thread that has all the info to do this (for Windows): https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=229692

AZ2 is designed for 1080p as I feel that is the most common resolution supported by hardware combos (eg I have a 4k TV but the video card in my htpc doesn't handle 4k output very well). Also, 1080p upscales well to 4k because it is simply pixel doubling - whereas downscaling 4k to 1080p isn't so great because you loose detail.

So you can run the skin in 4k with no problems - my laptop where I'm making the skin has a 4k display and the skin looks great on it.

I think most danes are probably running Kodi in english, but if you want to have as many languages as possible translated I can do the danish translation for you.

laptop with a 4k display? :O

Work gave me the new Razor Blade. I can't see a big difference from my viewing distance. But it's quite nice to edit a 1080p video pixel perfect and still having UI on screen.

@jurialmunkey
I'm quite happy that you got monochrome icons for the ratings. The three ratings really look more unified without the yellow, green and red logos.
In Aura I switched the color gradients to two light variants of grey, and the ratings stand out too much there now. Smile
I have a question though. Is there a benefit from having the quantity of votings for the imdb rating?

I won't use the skin in my own language, but can translate it to german if needed. Smile

I have the Lenovo Yoga 920. Honestly, 4k is probably a little overkill at it's 14" screen size, but I got it massively discounted in a sale and it meant I could get the i7 model with a 1TB ssd.
First new computer in about six years, so I splurged a bit!

I think a lot of people use imdb vote count to judge popularity of a film (e.g. differentiates big blockbusters from little indie films).
Also helps to judge how accurate the rating is (e.g. a high rating is not that meaningful if it only has 10 votes).

I really like this color gradient from your Aura skin:

Will you make it possible to set something like that in AZ2 also?
Doesn't even have to be these exact colors, but having a color selector to choose which colors to use for selecting items and the elapsed time of a video and if it is one color, or a gradient, would be awesome.

Sorry, it's a no on gradients - trying to minimise overheads as much as possible and keep things light.

Colour choice for selection will be an option though - that's always been a part of AZ.

 No, it's been previously stated the skin is Kodi 18 and above as it uses new features of the skinning engine not present in 17.x.
