I have helped a lot of other people since you started this thread and read hundreds of posts, so could you please, in 20 words or less, tell me what you are trying to do. You want to show a description of what the TV Show is. What do you want done with episodes? Do you want information for them as well? I can use other names but visually I can say to family (or to myself) that the series is finishedI am not even sure why you are using Kodi at all. Why not just use some basic media player and the file manager of your operating system. Sorry to say, but it just seems like you are ignoring all of Kodi's features and trying to re-invent the wheel. Kodi will track your watched status for you if you set up the libraries correctly which you refuse to do for some reason. Sorry if I sound harsh, it just becomes frustrating when people come here for help and completely ignore the advice you try to give them. My advice is to just scrape your shows. Saved here: mocowisoka.kodi (paste) RE: Simple way to use left side panel in Kodi 18 to detail a folder's contents - Karellen - 2019-06-26 The log is no good. It has been heavily edited, so I don't know what I have to say anymore to explain we want a FULL LOG. Debug mode is enabled too late. Please read the guide to create one --> Debug Log <--. There are only 4 steps. You also have banned add-ons installed which, I guess, is why your log is so heavily edited. I'll leave you in the hands of others that may be willing to assist. The forum moderators have determined that Banned_addons (wiki) are present on your system. To receive assistance here, these banned items must be removed. If a clean log is not submitted within 3 days, then the relevant post(s) will be removed after this time. Ok this version of Kodi is an install from a repo in Fedora (kodi-17.6-9.fc28.x86_64 - "dnf -y install kodi") and I haven't done anything else with it, so this means the default repo from Fedora is not supported. When it comes to this aspect of Kodi I am just a user but I have the Linux underbelly setup to suit my directory structure and nice front end for TV show access with remotes. On my live Kodi box this is on Kubuntu and again just ran the apt install command, so if it has banned add-ons then there is nothing more can be done. Years ago I just installed the download off the Kodi site with a version called 'kubuntu' which worked perfectly for years. Thanks for your help and it is appreciated but if my setup is incompatible at the base install, then I won't bother pursuing it any further, it just can't be done on my setup. I was just hoping to add an easy feature, no biggy really. It works well as it has always done in every other aspect. Thanks for the help though, I am at that same point in the forest where I am standing at that same tree realising I am walking in circles :-) When I get more time I will come back to a base install and try again. Actually I did load a plugin to watch and be able to save TV shows from episodes, that will be it. Sorry for the confusion. Ok, will try a fresh install at some point. I very much doubt any official distro repo would include such as addon, it is only the one marked orange in your log so remove that repo beginning with s and you'll be ok. Although this Fedora install coming from such a repo does make me wonder if it's been patched in some way since you don't seem to be getting correct behaviour. Do you have any other devices to test with? as it should really be straight forward to do what you want. When I add my test folder in the log I get https://paste.kodi.tv/acupuvisal.kodi For this folder These are just text files named as video files with the nfo and content is set to TV Shows on the TV folder, in your examples this should be done on your genre folders Entertainment, SciFi etc (content is always the 1st level above the folders containing the tv epsiodes) and set to Local Information Only. This will be my last comment on the matter unless you can provide a clean debug log (without the dodgy repo). Thank you for your reply - I worked out I did load something after install to try and view and save TV shows with it - I am going to remove it as it is only a few minutes to uninstall and re-install again, and then I will retry and see if we can nail it. Poor @Karellen - believe I am making the poor soul go mad with my stuff here. Will re-install bare system, re-source the /u/kodi folder with full debug on and see what we get. Still not getting the plot showing in the context and have updated my Drama folder - I noted that Drama had the "This folder contains a single show" (or wording like that) in its settings. Now when I tell it to scan to library I get this (which I can get on my live server as well): http://dmc1961.id.au/tmp/10_Kodi_Test.png Still no plot showing though. I am at the point where I won't keep pursuing this as I am clearly missing something or something is not set correctly and I have taken up way too much time of everyone here. I have lived for years without it so it won't devastate me, just wanted to make it a bit nicer and at some point I 'might' embrace on-line scrapers but at present it isn't really what I want. I can still get the info I need by using my recorded screen captions as MP4 files and putting these in the folders as a quick 'explain' of what the show is about... Thanks again and the live server and this current test one do not have any add-ons for what might have made it incompatible with Kodi rules, so all good at least from that perspective. RE: Simple way to use left side panel in Kodi 18 to detail a folder's contents - jjd-uk - 2019-06-26 That's better from a log point of view as now shows using local scraper and that nfo is read, plus info screenshot shows plot has been loaded into database, so in theory everything required should be done. Have you tried closing Kodi then opening again, as perhaps something in the view has not refreshed correctly. Hey, that't the fix from the I.T Crowd :-) Yes I have done that, but I also looked a bit further that will remove using the nfo files, and that is my test accepts the poster.jpg approach, so this will more than suffice as it works perfectly: http://dmc1961.id.au/tmp/11_Kodi_Test.png So I will bail on the nfo side of things now and get posters working - more graphical for those trawling through 'stuff' and something I can edit as well..... a picture is worth a thousand words they say. Many thanks to everyone, I will head on down the more GUI look and still keep the nfo side tinkering in place to eventually effect both. Thanks again. RE: Simple way to use left side panel in Kodi 18 to detail a folder's contents - jjd-uk - 2019-06-26 I'll test again if I get opportunity with real video files instead of fake (I've mostly replied here while in work ) I don't see why that would make a difference, but it's a difference I'll try and eliminate from my side. |
