RE: Intel VAAPI howto with Krypton v17 based on Ubuntu 16.04 server - fatalkill3r - 2017-06-08

Hi

Apologies for the confusion. I tested build 0605 and it has kernel 4.12.0-rc4. I am not able to get 4k@60Hz output. In windows its working fine. I also tested build 0606 and result is same.

Below are the logs from 0605 -
https://pastebin.com/CDh2cDCV

I actually by mistake gave incorrect kernel version because I got confused. Below is the screenshot from where I downloaded the Libreleec build. It says Linux NUC 4.11.3. I actually did not verify the kernel version from SSH.

Thank you.

#0605 != #0605x Smile

Yesss!! Apologies again

Here are further results -

0605 - https://pastebin.com/c46x4jF6
0605x - https://pastebin.com/CDh2cDCV

Some progress here. I cannot seem to get automatic detection of 60Hz. On manually adding the mode using xrandr 4k@60Hz is working. How can I make auto detection work ? Is there a way to feed xorg.conf file to libreelec ?

Thank you Smile

Put it to /storage/.config/xorg.conf and fine.

Hi. I know this is kind of a question that might not be suited for this thread, but I try it anyways.

I got a Intel NUC (nuc5cpyh) with braswell, and I kind of bought it cause I thought it was "future proof" and could do both x264 and hevc in 2160p. I've later learned from you guys in here that it doesn't play hevc in 10bits in HW, making it impossible to play 2160p hevc in 10bit on that NUC.

I wonder if there's some other great hardware to use a my HTPC, wíth about the same specs as my NUC, but also play 10bits hevc?

Thanks.

I'll apologize in advance, because my answer will disappoint you. Unfortunately, it is based on fresh experience and as such reflects reality:

- Braswell is not future proof - you should opt for Kaby Lake now to get HW decoding of HEVC in 2160p
- You need bleeding edge Mesa (Intel) drivers and latest Kodi agile (from git), see my post for instructions: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=231955&pid=2543877#pid2543877
- the 7th Gen NUCs have these CPUs, but unfortunately there are issues with DTS-HD bitstreaming on Linux. I had a Gen 7 i3 NUC and was unable to get passthrough of HD audio working (but hw encoding of the video worked

Short answer: Buy a desktop PC (mini ITX H270 board for example, if you want it small) and use a Kaby Lake CPU on it. Then follow step 0 of Fritsch's guide in first post, and follow my instructions from step 1.

Then you'll have a future proof system capable of HW decoding 10bit HEVC 2160p, and also full HD audio passthrough support. The result of my search for the ultimate HTPC.

For more general advice on hardware picks, I would consult wrxtasy's guide here: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=252916

Hi Fritsch

I really appreciate the improvements and enhancements done in kodi deinterlacing and upscaling over the years. Most of the content gets deinterlaced optimally. I found a specific IPTV channel which was not getting deinterlaced correctly. Below is a dropbox link to the channel. Please check it out. Thank you.

RE: Intel VAAPI howto with Krypton v17 based on Ubuntu 16.04 server - MicTie - 2017-07-13

Hi,
since a couple of weeks (not really sure when it started) Kodi is stopping by itself after 10 minutes of operation.
This happens when Kodi is idle (no media played), music is played, but never happened during playing a movie.
I am also no aware of any audio-issue, everything seems running smoothly...

Besides the (almost) daily Kodi-nightly update, there was no change in the setup, especially nothing related to Audio.

I am running the setup as described in this threat.

Log-Files show:
ERROR: PulseAudio: Failed to connect context
NOTICE: PulseAudio might not be running. Context was not created.

Here all my system-info and log-files:
dpkg: http://paste.ubuntu.com/25080144/
Display: http://paste.ubuntu.com/25080153/
log: http://paste.ubuntu.com/25080163/
dmesg: http://paste.ubuntu.com/25080164/
id: http://paste.ubuntu.com/25080165/
amixer: http://paste.ubuntu.com/25080169/

Thank's for you help!

Your TV turns off and alsa rescans. The pulselog is not related.

RE: Intel VAAPI howto with Krypton v17 based on Ubuntu 16.04 server - MicTie - 2017-07-13

Thanks!

But, I don't think my TV turns off, at least I don't see it ... I am sitting in front seeing some KODI animation while playing some music, and suddenly the screens turns black, next moment I see a screen generated by my AVR

It seems ALSA rescans after 10 minutes

UPDATE 1:
I did some further testing based on your comment, here is my findings
1) if the problem occurs, KODI does not switch off completely, only sound (via AVR) and picture (via AVR and TV) stops
2) if I play some music with TV off, after 10 minutes the sound stops
3) if I play some music with TV off, and also switch my AVR OFF and back ON, music continues playing
4) the 10 minutes seems to be from the 'power-on' of KODI, and not from the 'Power-on' of the AVR
5) if I play a movie for 15 minutes, no problem, if I continue to play music afterwards it switches off after 10 minutes

to me it seems that KODI is checking every 10 minutes and suddenly unable to find any output device, and stops playing - although this seems not showing up in the logs

UPDATE 2:
to pinpoint the culprit (cable, AVR, TV, KODI) I did some further testing:
1) change of HDMI-cable: problem occurs
2) play music via AVR with TV off and disconnected (eliminating TV): problem occurs
3) use different HDMI-ports on AVR: problem occurs
4) use different HDMI-input-device (Media-Player in Standby mode) with AVR: problem does not occur
5) connect KODI HDMI-out directly to TV (eliminating AVR): problem occurs

=> based on 2) and 5) I conclude the issue is with KODI

UPDATE 3 - SOLUTION:
(maybe helpful for someone who runs into the same issue)

add the following lines to /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

Quote:Section "ServerFlags"
Option "BlankTime" "0"
Option "StandbyTime" "0"
Option "SuspendTime" "0"
Option "OffTime" "0"
EndSection

Please help.
I like to execute an application from Kodi EGL. I need a script which close Kodi, execute an application (eg. retroarch) and when the application ended, the Kodi restart via openbox.
I tried this, but not working:
systemctl stop kodi
/usr/bin/retroarch
systemctl start kodi

Sorry for my bad english.

Can I use the kodi-openbox script for this? How to modify these scripts for this EGL version?

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out why Kodi on my Kaby Lake NUC still doesn't use hardware encoding for 10 bit HEVC. Using the nightly build of Kodi. 8 bit works fine. Been reading through some posts here and tried several things;

1. Tested with a LibreELEC live USB, with the same result.
2. Manually built kodi-agile, but no luck there either.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the quick reply, and I'm sorry for the delay in my own. Here is a debug report when I reproduce the issue, playing a 10 bit HEVC movie.
