I ran MIP to make sure all my movies had fanart, nfos, etc... Loaded XBMC, added the source (x: is where my videos are), right clicked on the x: source to set content to Video. When I go to my videos though I see none of the fanart/imbd info/etc that I generated with MIP. I had this working before, but as I mentioned, am having a serious brain fart...

Did you happen to forget truly scanning your stuff with XBMC and go into library mode instead of staying in file mode? Smile

I will play around with again, I went into library mode and my movies were showing up but no data. I am kicking myself since I had this working before

This is what the new download engine will sorta look like (it's been revamped and will look better after some photoshop work), it's using wget only now (which works much better then the other methods i've been trying)
Images are queued during the scan process (ie.. when you click on the moviename in the left list).. if there are any to download they are put into a queue... that queue is then processed by the download dialog, but it now uses wget only and doesn't freak out the display.

I've got a ways to go yet on getting everything tied back into this display, but i find it much much better then what it was doing before..

Content wise that looks much better - it has the title and item number. I think the queue approach will make things more robust. If there is an item in the queue that it can't process, will it flag it then move on to the next item?

I think it would be best to always try the next item and just write any that fail to an error log with a message to the user at the end of the process. That way if someone is scanning 300 movies they can go to bed and hopefully find in the morning that 298 worked rather than perhaps find it only got to nunber 20 then crashed.

Yeah, it'll retry automatically and then timeout if it fails and move on to the next one.. initially this will be for single movies, then i'll rework the pre-cache to do the same as well. (which it does now, without the dialog being displayed)..

Update: I've swapped over pre-cache to use this new method, it's running through a test set of data now.. this currently works for movies and part of tv shows.

here's an updated screen shot - it's multi-threaded now and supports auto-retry using wget.. it takes the download list and splits it between the threads and then fires them off, with this it never overruns itself (like when just blindly firing off wget does) and it faster as it's doing multiple downloads at the same time.

After some testing I reworked the component again, it now uses 5 threads to download the items.. I had to remove the wget console output that I had going back into the dialog as a race condition sometimes occurred during large lists that I could not seem to catch in an exception. In addition, the cpu usage with 5 threads and the redirect of wgets output pegged my test box cpus both at 100% during downloads and its a very fast machine. It now back at acceptable levels.

thetvdb.com has been having some server issues the past few days, so I'm holding off on adding those items as I can't test it completely...

I was able to configure and I'm currently testing with tv data and precache.

Ok I just got around to playing with trailers and I think its kinda cool. You can find a lot at movie-list.com

Now do you need to reload the movie into MIP then save the movie info or can you just copy the movie-trailer.ext to the correct folder in xbmc and hit update library?

I got it to work eventually, but I didn't see a listing for mymoviename-trailer.mov in either nfo. I ended up just removing the movie from the library and then doing a scan and it found it. However since this is on my windows machine xbmc and mip are looking in the same directory, but it would be different for me if I was doing this on my Xbox. So I don't know 100% to what really fixed it.

Hopefully soon I'll get my network storage up and it wouldn't make a difference, but thats later. Wink

Played with it a bit more and it appears that if you just drop a moviename-trailer.ext into the movie folder for instance 300 it would be 300-trailer.ext

I removed 300 and hit update library and poof it added the trailer and it loads right up when you click the trailer button viewing the movie information.

I was trying trying to see if I "had" to involve MIP everytime I updated something.

New Wine version created
Note: with this version, a pre-cache of tv show data is done as soon as the load button is clicked, a change in the way it's handled, but it's better I think.

This is geared towards running under Wine, but will work under Windows as well, the main differences are that some things that cause wine to crash are not editable from the gui.

MovieInfoPlus rev 2434
You can now use both files and folder levels for movies at the Same TIME! (they go into differnt folder selections under the folder setup area).

Full movie.tbn and movie.nfo and all others are supported.. if you'r not sure which to keep, don't change those settings, it may be a few extra files, but will work in different versions of XBMC.. either way they all work now

This is also using the new downloader.
This includes all bug fixes and interm patches from build 2400

You must uninstall any previous versions and remove your config file to use this version.

NOTE: uninstall does not remove any cached data from your computer, so anything it's downloaded will still be there, it won't have to download it again

Sexxxxy...goin out in a bit, will play tomorrow afternoon. Big Grin

Tried the new version and it seems to work quite nicely except that the posters still don't show up for me - and that would be the most important feature for me. And it is still very slow under wine.

Things that media companion does that I find quite nice:

- It renames existing "scene" .nfo files to .info and uses the imdb link in those files to get the right movie
- It is alot faster when it comes to downloading. Precaching my 400 movies took the whole night or so Big Grin

Other than that I am quite satisfied with the movie part and will go on to test the tv show part next Smile

Just downloaded the rev 2434 Wine Build. Everything looks great. Couple comments:

MIP does not allow you to browse for a folder in folder selection, you have to manually type in the address

When you select a movie and the dos prompt comes up, if you have any other windows open, you have to tab back to get to MIP

For TV Shows, MIP will download the info for the base TV Show folder, but still shows 0 movies loaded (i.e. my tv shows are box sets so they are in Video_TS folders). I knew this didn't work before, wasn't sure if it was supposed to be fixed in this build.

I will keep playing around, but I must say I really like this program.

- Clumsy - 2009-01-24

Regression under wine: I can't complete the precaching anymore because the downloader at some point just hangs. I have 5 threads open that are supposedly downloading from tmdb but they just sit there and hang atm.

Thanks for all the great work on this! Any chance of getting the downloads to work in the background or not steal focus. It makes my system pretty much useless til the downloads stop. Thanks again for the hard work.

I agree. I was trying to do something and I had to keep clicking on the active window so I could see.

Still going through my movies, and a few other items I noticed (not sure if it is me or MIP):

- After the download is done for a movie, what do those numbers represent in () for Icons, Fanart, Posters, etc...? I assume it was the number of images downloaded, but if I do that math it doesn't add up. For instance, MIP is showing Posters (14), but I only count 7. For Icons and Box Shots it shows 1334, but there are 0.
- It appears now that no box shots are bing downloaded
- When MIP brings in a box cover for the main Current Movie screen, it is generally the back cover of a dvd?
