One more question; has the ability to configure a delay when changing the display refresh rate been lost?  In past versions of Kodi I could configure a pause of a couple of seconds to allow my display to finish changing the refresh rate when starting playback of a 24fps file.

I must say 24fps playback synced to my display looks phenomenal; thanks again for the wonderful guide.

It's still there. (Expert view) ->  System -> Display -> Delay after change of refresh rate.

It certainly is,  thank you.   Was this grouped with the video settings in older releases or am I getting senile?

Yes. It was. It was thought that it is more related to the Display itself and therefore it was moved over.

Makes perfect sense; thank you again fritcsh!

@fritsch  and everyone else

already posted this in the hardware thread but I think this is the way to go with my planned hardware. My goal is to be ready to playback HEVC 4K 10 Bit content, well not just playback also to deliver the 10 bit content to my Denon AVC-X8500 and eventually to my 4K TV.

I figure, Intel is the way to go now with Linux so my HW list looks like this:

Gigabyte Z370n WiFi - with DP 1.2, HDMI 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 ports
Intel i5-8600T

Question now is, can I use either the DP 1.2 with a HDMI 2.0 Adapter or the "native" HDMI 2.0 port ... which uses some additional chip I think to output the decoded HEVC 10 Bit content. Is there any other trouble I might run into using this hardware on Linux to playback HEVC 10bit?
HDR content is another topic, I think this isn't supported yet, right? But would the hardware listed above be "ready" for it?

thanks guys,

boba

- If it has a native HDMI 2.0 port use this one.
- If the lspcon is the same as those in the NUCS upgrade its firmware to 1.66 or later (DP Port)

Every intel GPU >= Apollo Lake can decode HEVC-10 bit. As you say: For now no HDR passthrough, but soon 10 bit sRGB visuals.

Thanks for the quick reply fritsch.

I am pretty sure that Gigabyte board, probably all 3 boards out there with HDMI 2.0 ports use the same chip MegaChip MCDP 2800, which is also used in Intel NUCs. So you think that won't cause any problems, or even will be the better choice over using the DP 1.2 port plus an HDMI 2.0 active adapter? Regarding the firmware update for the NUCs ports, I read about that, though I am not sure if I could simply apply that to the gigabyte onboard chip then as well ... or if a bios update is needed.

thanks,

boba

Never had a Gigabyte Board in my life :-) not sure if they fucked something up. Best bet is: HW forum or captain google.

@fritsch

hey man, getting my new HW today and probably doing a fresh install. I want to follow your guide here, though I need a full, lightweight desktop env, not just server+kodi.
I wanted to go Lubuntu (Kodibuntu style). Can I just leave out the server specific parts, aka the service, systemd stuff and autostart kodi-standalone after auto-login of kodi user in lubuntu? Or is there anything more I should think of regarding installation on the desktop version?

thanks,

boba

Hi,
Thank you for a great software and tutorial at the beginning of this thread.
I use Ubuntu 18.04 and Kodi for some time. It works great.
I have a small issue to report:
Despite I  selected display refresh rate to match video: On Start / Stop the refresh rate remains constant 60Hz when I play 23,9 or 24 or 25Hz movie. See details below:

mesa

Should I adjust something to have TV ref. rate the same as movie?
Regards,
Bern

Did you whitelist any of you resolutions?

Thanks for replay. Where should I add my TV resolutionsand ref. rates to the whitelist?
I thought that TV refresh rates  is automatically adjusted to the ref. rates of playback movie ( if I select 'refresh rate to match video: On Start / Stop')
As I see from Kodi's logs Kodi idetyfied my TV resolutions and refresh rates as:

So then, switch to Estuary skin and whitelist them. Same window as before.
