RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/09/05] - Soli - 2015-09-12

Dunno, been using my ps3 v1 remote with my chromebox for a year now without changing batteries. But I don't ever suspend, although I seem to recall that the my ps3 remote does not wake up my chromebox from suspend. I could probably fix that, but since I don't use suspend it's just wasted time for me.

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/09/05] - busta.rhymes - 2015-09-12

Yeah well i had some time with the ps3 remotes with the chromebox and my expirience is that batteries drain in about 2 weeks time. My remotes wake the box out of suspend with the first button touch and that is what gets me thinking.

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/09/05] - Soli - 2015-09-12

At least it should take a second or two. It it's immediately, then that's a sign that the remote doesn't sleep properly.
This also applies if the machine doesn't suspend.

you can't boot the ChromeOS recovery media with my custom/standalone firmware - it won't boot except with the stock firmware. As for booting the OpenELEC installer, what version are you using? How did you create the installation media? What exactly are you seeing on your screen? And how is the ChromeBox (physically) connected to your display?

So i was asuming that its the old v1 of the ps3 remote because i initialy had a new v2 remote and did not have the problem with my first chromebox.
So i went out and got a new version 2 remote. To try if the issue is eliminated.

Now i have a question regarding suspend mode... When i suspend the chromebox and then go and wake it up with the remote the remote reacts emidiatly. Even though i set standby mode on.
Isnt the remote supposed to hybernate when the chromebox is in suspend? I am scared that i have to put in new batteries like every week.
Anyone got any knowledge as to how this works?

my PS3 remote wakes the ChromeBox immediately and then takes a sec or two to reconnect. Been using the same batteries for a years and a half now. No idea what version remote it is though.

ok matt, then it sounds normal with the instant wake up from the remote...

and just for the info with the waking up issue...
Switching from the first V1 to the new V2 version of the PS3 remote solved the chromebox waking up issue for me.
So if anyone has issues with the waking up chromebox check your bluetooth things first.

Old Model was Bluetooth only and only controlled a PS3.

New Model is Bluetooth for the PS3 but adds IR for a Sony TV and AVR. (Hence the Volume and Channel buttons)

actually, the IR portion works with multiple makes/models. Set up a CB for a friend and have the remote controlling his Samsung TV as well.

Hi Matt - I at first followed the script and used the option of booting via USB (creating) the OpenElec installer. When I rebooted, it wouldn't read the USB, so I then grabbed the Disk Image of the latest Stable Release of OpenElec and mounted it on USB (first i format'd the usb via partition magic). I then slap in on the chromebox, reboot....and I do get the ESC option so I hit it...then select #2 for my USB drive....that's when I get hat weird message about linux kernal ELF something, then it just goes and stays in a black screen.

**THanks for clarifying that the CHROMEOS recovery media won't boot w/the custom/standalone firmware already in place...that makes me feel better about non hardware issue (maybe.). Appreciate any help, i feel like i'm stuck with a brick and not sure why when i've done this many times Sad

how are you writing the OE disk image to usb - using Win32DiskImager as instructed? Formatting the USB is pointless when writing a disk image since the image contains its own partition table and overwrites any that exists. The msg I bolded above implies that it's booting ChromeOS from the internal SSD, not OE from USB, which could be a failover if the USB isn't bootable.

Matt - please disregard all is well now!! I guess I didn't write the proper image of openelec onto the USB (maybe i didn't extract per wiki). ONce doing so..it ran the installer. Thank you so much!!

honestly have no idea, I didn't set it up. Last time I was over to help migrate him to a central mysql db, he had swapped his bedroom TV to the samsung and the PS3 remote worked for power, input, channel, and volume that I recall.
