RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/09/05] - rmilyard - 2015-09-19 Been awhile since doing this but what is the easiest way to update from 14.2 to 15.1? RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/09/05] - Dietzie - 2015-09-19 Hi Matt I'm using a Asus Chromebox Celeron 2955U running Linux OpenElec Stand Alone with your script since late last year and have had a great experience, Thank You so much for all your hard work and patience to help others, unfortunately this past week I relocated the Chromebox to a different room and when I turned it on the OpenElec symbol flashes Once, then Tv Addons symbol flashes continuously and kodi will not start up. I've tried unplugging several times, with the same results, I've opened a ssh terminal with putty and tried the fsck /dev/sda1 and 2 commands but it tells me they are both mounted and e2fsck: cannot continue, aborting. I've then opened again a ssh terminal with Putty and have run a Top command for log files, please see link http://sprunge.us/QDcl,also please see dmesg at http://sprunge.us/gdCP, any help or direction would be great Thank You RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/09/05] - Matt Devo - 2015-09-19 (2015-09-19, 16:53)rmilyard Wrote: Been awhile since doing this but what is the easiest way to update from 14.2 to 15.1? assuming you're running OpenELEC, just perform a manual update as per the wiki (2015-09-19, 17:40)Dietzie Wrote: Hi Matt I'm using a Asus Chromebox Celeron 2955U running Linux OpenElec Stand Alone with your script since late last year and have had a great experience, Thank You so much for all your hard work and patience to help others, unfortunately this past week I relocated the Chromebox to a different room and when I turned it on the OpenElec symbol flashes Once, then Tv Addons symbol flashes continuously and kodi will not start up. You can always do a fresh install (download/create OpenELEC install media as per the instructions on their site / the ChromeBox wiki) and go from there. I've been happy with my 2955U model, but need another, and am finding it a bit hard to believe that's still the current gen! RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/09/05] - Sunflux - 2015-09-21 Guess I can answer this one myself - yes, and probably soon. However, looks like the old models are starting to get discounted. The Asus i3 with 4gb + keyboard/mouse is down to $207! RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/09/05] - Matt Devo - 2015-09-21 (2015-09-21, 06:44)Sunflux Wrote: Any signs of new Chromeboxes models with this year's CPUs on the horizon? (2015-09-21, 08:02)Sunflux Wrote: Guess I can answer this one myself - yes, and probably soon. it's been as low as $189. There are Broadwell models out there apparently, but very limited quantity, and provide little to no benefit over the Haswell models, and effectively zero difference for Kodi. Braswell models are in the works, but Skylake models (which are 6+ months out) are the ones I'd recommend people hold out for. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/09/05] - Sunflux - 2015-09-21 Yeah, I need to replace an original i3 NUC - the one with the 24hz skipping frames problem. The thing also occasionally refuses to power on. It's still running XBMC 12 on Windows.. I bought a HP Chromebox on a great sale quite a while ago to replace a much older AOpen Mini PC in a bedroom, and it's worked out great. I wanted the more powerful next gen for my main system (also something in a dark color versus the HP's white), and have kept holding off... but now, I'm tired of waiting. With the new discount, I think I'll get the i3 model just to give it a little more lasting power, and wait for a proper h.265 solution in the future. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/09/05] - Dietzie - 2015-09-21 Matt, Thank You for the response, as mentioned I will do a fresh start, is the only way to achieve this by resetting the chromebox to stock ? RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/09/05] - Matt Devo - 2015-09-21 (2015-09-21, 09:03)Dietzie Wrote: Matt, Thank You for the response, as mentioned I will do a fresh start, is the only way to achieve this by resetting the chromebox to stock ? absolutely not, the easiest way is to simply reinstall OpenELEC via USB as I mentioned previously. You can also ssh in and just delete the contents of the storage partition and reboot ( rm -rf /storage/*; reboot) How to change boot menu on HP Chromebox - dnpls - 2015-09-21 I have a HP Chromebox Intel Celeron 2955U where I installed Kodibuntu 14 as standalone following instructions in the forum. It runs great and I have no particular issues with it. However, during installation there was an option to set USB boot as default, which I did thinking I could change later. My problem is that I cannot find a way to change it, and as I have a USB hard drive attached at all times I get the "BOOTMGR not found" screen and have to reboot + press esc + select the hard drive. What's the simplest way to : - restore boot to HDD by default with a way to boot by USB when necessary (pressing a key that is not ESC during boot or any other key combo). RE: How to change boot menu on HP Chromebox - Matt Devo - 2015-09-21 (2015-09-21, 16:56)dnpls Wrote: I have a HP Chromebox Intel Celeron 2955U where I installed Kodibuntu 14 as standalone following instructions in the forum. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/09/05] - dnpls - 2015-09-21 I did follow this: http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kodibuntu_from_a_USB_drive So what I get when I boot from the USB drive are the three options: "Try Kodi / Install Kodi / Boot from another drive" but I don't get the firmware update option or the USB default... EDIT: Sorry Matt, I realised I was looking at the wrong page, went back to the beginning and found the correct script. Worked like a charm, thanks for the Ultra-fast response. Is there any way I could re-map the ESC key from the boot menu to another key or key combination? My remote / keyboard doesn't have an ESC key. |
