sounds like a question for the PVR and/or Plex forums, since it's unrelated to my EZ Setup Script and/or running Kodi on the ChromeBox (though you'll want to flash my standalone firmware before installing whatever Linux distro you decide). Take a look at Mythbuntu perhaps?

My mistake Matt. I have already used your setup to install openelec and kodi. Thanks for that by the way.

Thanks - I could've sworn it didn't USED to happen on my old box. At least not originally. But now both ChromeBoxes (HP Celeron, ASUS i3) do it identically, and the one has a BIOS that's well over a year old.

It's not so much the starting up at high speed, it's how long it stays there. And I'm pretty sure there are instances where it either never ramps back down again, or takes an abnormally long time. My old system is in a cabinet so I can't hear it too clearly, but the new one is in the open so it's painfully obvious when 30 seconds in it's still whirring away at full speed.

right, it probably didn't until you upgraded to a version of OE that uses a kernel > 3.19. I understand and am able to replicate the problem, I just haven't had time to work on it, and for the meantime just leave my box on 24/7

When considering a Chromebox, which processor should one look for? Celeron, i3, or i7?

This may be a dumb question, is there a sponsor on this site that offer modded chromebox with Kodi/openELEC?

i3, but consider a Pi 2 also.

Seems the new Asus Chromebox with the Broadwell 3205U CPU is finally available (p/n: CHROMEBOX2-G016U by the looks of it), I wonder if this will still work for it, probably wishful thinking, but never know.

the dual boot portion will, assuming it has a working legacy boot out of the box. I would need to create a separate standalone/full firmware replacement for it though, for which I'd need to have access to a box for testing. Given its late arrival, I can't think of any reason to recommend the Broadwell version over Haswell, and so probably won't bother putting any effort towards it unless someone sends me a box. I'm certainly not going to spend my own money on one =P

The only settings that I disabled was vdpau method and "preferred vaapi rendering method"
The rest of the options are still selected-mpeg2/mpeg4/vc1
The problem is it doesn't happen right away. Movie played fine the first few minutes, CPU stayed around 8-16% and then Boom frame drops, CPU shot up, choppy video.
I have tried 3-4 mkv files all, all behaved the same. They were playing fine in my old wd tv
I reset to factory settings and the "only" option I disabled was "preferred vaapi method" and that was enough to cause it to behave like that...I'm not sure what else todo

What codec are the videos and what is the content? If they are interlaced VC-1 then that's the one format that causes Intel VAAPI hardware decoding issues and it has to drop to CPU decoding.

Hi, thank you for helping. here is the on screen log I took just a while ago while playing Tron (.mkv) ripped from blu ray using makemkv I believe

as you can see the severe frame drops and high cpu usage. It does this sporadically off and on every 3-5 mins or so.

I think i have a similar bug.

I install kodibuntu 14.04 (recommanded on the main page) with mythtv backend 0.275 version on my Asus chromebox. I have a Hdhomerun extend tv tuner. It transcode in H.264. After 5-10 minutes it go straight to 100% with full ram and the video and kodi will lag. I have the stable kodi 15.1.

I suspect it a vertical sync problem. I try all video configuraiton possible. without success. I can watch a blu ray movie from a other pc on my chromebox but i can't Watch live tv or Watch somme recording movie.

I install 2 time kodibuntu. First time with the swap partition and the second time without the swap partition because (like it wrinting in install instruction).

Now i search to try some new solution!

And ...sorry for my English Angel
