175ms has been the default delay for 24p content over HDMI for some time, though I'm not sure if the way it's displayed on the codec info overlay has changed with Kodi 15 or OE6

Based upon your very strongly worded warning, I removed acpi=off and installed 4.3 mainline, which works fine. Got two CPUs again. Pain in the butt.

Acpi=off seemed to be working fine, temps were not a problem, but you're right in that I only showed 1 CPU active. I added it to the wiki, do you think it should be removed?

For any lurkers, remove acpi=off from /etc/defaults/grub then:

4.3 isn't technically out yet, so as future releases come out check for the newest file in those URLs. Or just stick with 3.19, which I think is probably the smarter way to go.

I'm currently using a Asus Chromebox and OpenElec 5.0.8. I usually have 2x 2TB my passport hard drives (usb powered) plugged in, and everything boots fine.
I recently swapped out for a 6TB MyBook (outlet powered), and the Chromebox freezes at the boot menu. It's RIGHT before it asks to hit ESC for boot list. Just a black screen with the info line at the top (SeaBIOS (version 20140405_201740-john-lewis.) . If I reset the box, it works fine. If I reset the box 100 other times, it's fine. However, if I wait for 2 minutes and boot back up, it freezes. It's almost like it's trying to load the box, but it hasn't woken up yet.

So, how would I remedy this? I tried to set boot priority, but it already defaults and only shows the internal Chromebox. Is there a way to disable to Bios PreBoot authentication? Is there an updated BIOS that fixes this?

Or, am I just way off?

**I also did notice that the Chromebox sometimes randomly mounts and dismounts the hard drive as well. Related issue? If not, suggestions?

I just tested this with a SUSPEND (keeping the box kinda live), and it still froze on boot.
**I also tried different cables..and a much longer one to maybe delay the boot a tiny bit. All freezes.

unfortunately, I really can't provide support for what are potentially firmware-related issues when you're using someone else's custom firmware. If you upgrade to mine (which is 1.5yrs newer than the one you are running) then I can try to help, but there's not much that either John Lewis or I can do if your drive takes longer to respond to initialization on cold boot than the USB spec says it should.

I have a NAS, but it just doesn't always stream perfect. Plugging in works amazing. My NAS is for backup or other devices.
My router has a USB port as well, but it's pretty terrible to stream from my Zoom. I also just got something like the NAS adapter. It's got 3x usb 3.0 ports on the top too. Works great on my laptop with no ethernet port. $20 on Amazon.

Matt, how do I upgrade the firmware? I thought it was all the same. It's what I initially started with when this thread started. Thanks for the reply on the OE chat as well..You're everywhere, dude!

**Side note, I did find a workaround... I plugged a USB hub into the hard drive and plugged that into the Chromebox. It works flawlessly. I just don't like the extra swag hanging off of it though. Weird, huh?

boot any old Linux Live USB stick (Ubuntu 15.04 works fine; 15.10 has issues). open a terminal window. run the EZ Setup Script as per the instructions in the first post. Choose the option to install/update the coreboot firmware. Follow the prompts, when in doubt for a Y/N just hit enter to accept the default (the capital one). Choose power off option from script. Retry the HDD without the hub.

since you already have OpenELEC setup, you can't run the script from inside it - you have to boot another OS and run it there. The easiest way to do that is to boot a Ubuntu installer and select the 'Try Ubuntu' option, which will boot up in a "live" session

How do I boot? I read the guide, but apparently I don't know what I'm doing. I downloaded 15.04 and put on a USB. It's an ISO file...is that correct? It's all I could find.

you need to properly write the ISO (which is a type of disk image) onto the USB, not just copy it. If you're on Windows, I recommend using Rufus - just select the ISO image and USB drive to be written, and it will take care of the rest

Does anyone use the ProjectM visualizer with the custom Intel/EGL build? I'm getting an error message:

Add-on couldn't be loaded.
An unknown error occured.
Can't load Dll

Was working with 5.95.5, but not after I updated to this version.

Hey! Got it. Getting the ISO to transfer was a bit odd, but it worked. I ran into some snags, but as long as you follow the prompts, it's easy...OH, and make sure the wifi is connected once you hit Ubuntu.
Anyway, I updated the firmware, and the box is bypassed at startup like it should be, and it mounts without a bunch of mount/dismount notices. Well done! Thanks for all the help. This was driving me nuts!
