The glimpse of the future is looking great! Will this be scraping a site for the artist fanart? If so, which site so users can get some good images up for when this release comes about?

- digitalhigh - 2009-02-03

Unless something has changed very recently, there isn't a site for scraping. I believe the idea is to use some kind of name matching between the artist folder and a folder of music fanart...

- kizer - 2009-02-03

From what I recall Fan Art for Music has just been added so its rather new. Well not super new, but none the less. Wink

OK searched through this thread and seen bits and pieces but not actual answers to this. And to be honest anyone new to this forum who has not followed the thread its a nightmare trying to find something already posted.

I could sit here a whole week reading every post in this thread to find a single entry.

Anyway here is my problem.

In my movie list I have hidden system directories...
Eg

$RECYCLE.BIN
S-1-5-21-141.......
System Volume Information

At this point I get no more movies..Basically any movie directory after System Volume Information is not there.

How do I get around this.

Thanks

Why not just put the movies in a folder called "Movies" instead of having them on root?

- digitalhigh - 2009-02-04

Try adding each line to one of the "ignore custom text" boxes in settings. I do that to have it ignore CD1 and SUBS folders...it should do the same for the others.

$RECYCLE.BIN

S-1-5-21-141.......

System Volume Information

I did not want to take this route initially as I have another media app running at the moment ( until I really set xbmc up ) and it has a database created from whats there.

However as my experiments with xbmc go on I am beinging to believe I will make the swap over to this app so I have decided to bite the bullet and shift all movie directories into a sub directory rather than root Smile

BTW...love the look of the furture with music handling..

Hey guys, I've been using Media Companion to manage my collection for a while and didn't really look into this option for a long time because I remember initially reading that you had to have your movies in folders (which I don't want to do). I read that that's no longer the case, so I have 2 questions.

1) Will this work with my existing media?

Movies: I have a few different movie folders, each contains hundreds of movies as mkv/avi files with accompanying .tbn, .nfo, and -fanart.jpg files.
TV: Each show in a separate folder named "Showname" with tvshow.nfo and folder.jpg files, all seasons and episodes in that single folder as mkv/avi files with accompanying .tbn and .nfo files

2) What can this do that Media Companion can't (why would somebody use this over MC)?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, those will work fine, try it with a small set of files to be sure.

Tvshows have to be in a subfolder of the "Showname" folder, this is done so that I can create season fanart and other items in the future.

MIP makes pizza better then all other applications.. ok, it can't do that.. both apps are different in how things are handled and some of the feature sets.. I haven't tried his out to do a side by side compare, a key item of MIP is caching the data so it never has to get it again (meaning the images, other areas are dynamic or it would never get new stuff).

that's prob a bug i'll have to fix, please put in a bug report (sourceforge doesn't require logins to do that part)

Not to knock MC, because it is a killer app, but I personally prefer MIP over MC because of scan-time for the movie library. I can load a lib. of movies on the first run of the program in a lot less time.

Also, I could be mistaken, but as of the last time I tried it, MC is not very multipart-movie friendly. I found myself deleting numerous <moviename-CD2>.nfo/tbn files...which I find to be a major pain in the "arse".

And thirdly, I prefer the speed with which you can go down a list and add art/posters for movies that don't have them. I'm obsessive about my library, and this lets me get at it as fast as I want. Well, almost as fast... Wink

Ok just a few suggestions

1. Can we have all the options put into a toolbar (like File, Pictures, Modify, Settings, Help) like all other windows apps have to make it look neater?

2. Move the thanks info to a 'Help' section in the toolbar?

3. Have a status bar down the bottom of the screen (like every other program) showing whats going on and display % of completion

4. Trailer download - in options you could choose what size and type you want to download (from apple trailers) but have a separate button that you can choose to download all trailers for all your movies or a button for choosing to only download a particular one.

5. Minimize to tray - so when your doing a big download you can minimize it so it doesn't get in your way.

I'm not asking that these be implemented just consider my ideas. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MIP and cant wait to see what the future holds.

A change to where the settings are is coming, and how they are displayed.

Quote:2. Move the thanks info to a 'Help' section in the toolbar?
I agreed to have those in plain view for using content from the sites.

Quote:3. Have a status bar down the bottom of the screen (like every other program) showing whats going on and display % of completion
There will be more updates to the status of things in future builds, hopefully in a new panel that is embedded at the bottom, it hasn't worked out very well on the few last attempts. please add a feature request for it

You can click on the name "trailer" under Movie Folder Information tag to open apple's trailer site. They don't allow me to pull the data directly... however ... grease monkey and firefox make a great combination to that link. hint hint.. I am also working on a plugins feature that will allow actions to be added that I can't add myself.

Quote:5. Minimize to tray - so when your doing a big download you can minimize it so it doesn't get in your way.
that's doable, please add it to the feature requests so i don't forget it

Today i got image injection working for music, what this means is that music images can be added in the same way as movies and shows, of course it'll be an option that can be disabled (and will be disabled by default, with folder.jpg being created)

For music, the id3 tags are important and what i'll be using for music, a folder structure is also required for fanart to work, a wizard will allow that to be created automatically.. more details are coming up next week on music.. It's being added for a specific request with specific requirements for a customization to MIP, but will be ported back into MIP upon completion.

Here's a challenge for you, Fekker.

This is a listing of one "genre" folder inside my main music folder. There are about a seven or eight main folders for rap, r&b, country, classics, alternative...etc. Nothing too crazy, but this is all I want my files tagged for genre. Inside the various genre folders is a mix of misc files in the main folder, then subfolders for any artist who I've got somewhere around 5 or more songs for. Inside some of these are subfolders for some albums...

I dunno, it's a freaking mess. The file structure is easy to understand when you see it, but a total nightmare for tagging apps. I need a way to look at the files in their relation to the music folder, where the subfolders are just more specific versions of a classifaction.

So, music\alternative\* is the genre alternative. Anything in that folder is that genre, but unless it's in a subfolder in alternative, the artist tag could be wild. If it's in a subfolder, then the artist field is filled in by the subfolder's name. If any subfolders exist in that artist folder, then that folder name is used to fill in the album category.

And, if that wasn't confusing enough, here's a snapshot of the alternative folder. :

So what do you think?

I'd use mp3tag, choose the source as the alternative folder, it'll load up everything under there, select them all and modify the genre to match.. that will change the genre on all of those files.

would that work?
