fekker Wrote:I'd use mp3tag, choose the source as the alternative folder, it'll load up everything under there, select them all and modify the genre to match.. that will change the genre on all of those files.

would that work?

That is how I tagged the genres, yes, but XBMC still seems to find it's own info about the genres. I'm talking more for the artist/album level. I have three different Nine Inch Nails, four mansons, three bob marley's...

Edit: I broke down and started semi-manually renaming everything with MP3tag. I figured out how to specify what's where using a stringformat, but it's still a lot of manual work. It'll def be worth it tho...

Question:

I've been ripping the Bewitched Series for my wife and I've been grabbing screen captures and submitting them to thetvdb.com website. I reload MIP it doesn't seem to even try to scrape them. Is the cache updated every so often or is there a way to say "Hey, go get my episode thumbs" Of course I could of just cheated and created .tbn files, but I figured why not share and let the app do the work for me. Wink

Oh my question is there a certain time frame after files are uploaded then they are scrapable or is it instant or how do we say go get em? Normally I just use the TV side of MIP and click the folder all my series are in and it does the rest.

Ah found my question. Visit the Settings section and change the days new to 1 instead of what is defaulted to 5.

Man I love this app more and more. I just uploaded my created images and it scraped and renamed them all to fit my needs.

I need two more testers.. hopefully using x64 vista, wine, and regular winders
if interested send a pm to me or digitalhigh

Ok, I'm really confused now. I've been scraping Battlestar Galactica and Bewitched.
Now when I run MIP it says its Cacheing up Battlestar Galactica and Bewitched, but when its done it only shows the Battlestar Galactica series.

I tried running Bewitched separate and I get nothing as well I created a set of dummy files like so. I'm starting to scan on the Test folder so it see's Bewitched and digs down as if there where a couple of different Series in the folder.

Test/Bewitched
- Season 1
-- Bewitched - S01E01.avi
-- Bewitched - S01E02.avi
- Season 2
-- Bewitched - S02E01.avi
-- Bewitched - S02E02.avi

It just doesn't seem to want to pull anything down or display it in MIP, but it did a few days ago. I even checked thetvdb.org to make sure content is there and it is. Am I going bonkers? Of course it just has to happen now that I'm trying to do all this work for my wife without her knowing for Valentines day.

Oh yeah I'm running 2448 on two different machines using a portable drive as the source to hold all my files.

- kizer - 2009-02-06

Ok, I have 2440 installed at work and its pulling up the Bewitched series in the view window in MIP. However it doesn't seem to be scraping images, but it does pull down the NFO files.

Freaky

Can you turn on tv show debugging and send me the output file. Please use 2448 for that debug as it's the same as the code's revision and will point me to the failure point.

thanks!

- kizer - 2009-02-06

I'd love to, but I don't see any settings to turn on Debugging.

THis is what the tvshowdebug.log says that is in the folder, but I don't see settings anywhere in the app to turn it on.
TV Show Loading / Status Logging...

Is there anyway to get the "Display Name" to be the same as what is shown on imdb, instead of whatever the file name is?

- Nazgulled - 2009-02-07

This is probably going to sound really stupid but I have a question:
This application, basically, allows us to fill our movies/tv shows database and use it on XBMC in "library mode" right?

If that's so, wonderful job... I haven't tested it but there's already a thing I hate about it, the interface, it sucks hard. Now, don't misunderstand me, I'm not trying to be impolite, just stating the obvious and I for one, love pretty looking and consistent applications. But I understand if that [interface design] is not your thing, you've done a good job programming this whole thing. This leads me to another question:
Right now, I'm very busy with university... But, would you consider, in the future, porting your code to a new user interface if I do one for you? If you like what I may come up with of course... But I can't promise anything, but I would be wiling to try and make a good interface when I find the time for it, if you are willing to use it.

And here's one simple suggestion that I think no one though about it yet:
I see the application can tag the movie posters with some logos. What it's missing, at least for me, is the ability to also tag if the movie is subtitled or not, either with internal subtitles (in case of .mkv files for instance) and external. What do you think of this suggestion?

- fekker - 2009-02-07

I'm always open to suggestions for the ui, doing things in photoshop is one thing, making it actually work is another.

I've had some ideas passed on to me already, so don't be afraid I'll freak out.. now if your wanting a 3d gui, good luck with that Big Grin I don't do opengl and won't do directx as it locks it to winders.

For tagging, please put in a feature request, same with the gui with any mock up ya got.

To put MIP into debug mode for tv shows close MIP, open the config.xml in notepad and change tvdebbuging to true. (search file for debug, there's only 1 at the moment)

For the display name, it's shown in MIP as display name under the movie information section, you should be able to name it whatever ya like there and that's what xbmc will have it show up as.
- if that fails, please note foldername, moviename and extension, and put in a bug report

I ask for the bug reports because I get sidetracked real easy and forget to fix some things.. same with features.. if i don't have a reference.

Any luck with that crash when loading tv shows? anyone still having that happen?

I'm good on testers now, i'll be sending out a link and details to those folks next week (maybe sooner) for testing a customized build, once that build is done I can merge it back into MIP for general use.. I have a few folks working with an early build right now to get things rolling along.

Any graphic designers want to make a skin ? I'm using component factory's krypton toolkit, which has built in skinning options (so to speak), google it to see what I mean if interested. I'm only using the toolkit, so the ribbon bars and stuff that cost a bunch of money is out. color's, font's shading, overlays, embeded images, all possible, with the same code MIP uses right now.

Yes, but sometimes my folders may not be named correctly, so IMHO it would be better to default to whatever imdb says the correct title is, instead of the folder name.

I was going to try and change it myself, but I don't seem to have some dependencies. I think this should be changed (maincollection.vb@5498 & 6124):

Code:
'If Not currentmovie.pdatafromnfo Then 'movie data did not come from nfo, set it to the folder name if it's blank
        If currentmovie.peditedmoviename = "" Or currentmovie.peditedmoviename = Nothing Then
            currentmovie.peditedmoviename = currentmovie.pmoviename
        End If

to

Code:
'If Not currentmovie.pdatafromnfo Then 'movie data did not come from nfo, set it to the imdb title or folder name if it's blank
        If currentmovie.peditedmoviename = "" Or currentmovie.peditedmoviename = Nothing Then
             If Not currentmovie.getmoveiename = Nothing or currentmovie.getmoviename = ""
                    currentmovie.peditedmoviename = currentmovie.getmoviename
             Else
                    currentmovie.peditedmoviename = currentmovie.pmoviename
             End If
        End If

-----------------

As far as the GUI goes, my 2¢ is that this is really a utility program that should really focus more on usability rather than looks, and IMO works fine once you understand the options. If it were me, I would ditch any skinning components and just stick with the standard windows controls. Smile

Actually, what I meant wasn't just a Photoshop mockup or anything... I mean a real UI done in .NET (VB.NET is what you are using right?), you simply would need to port the code, not design anything yourself.

I'm a .NET programmer myself for a few years now (you can see my projects, which are not that much or big stuff, at http://www.nazgulled.net/) and I know and use Kyrpton Toolkit in one of my projects.

And no, I'm not talking about 3D stuff or OpenGL, but a simply neat and modern Windows interface, that's all. I don't have any mockups, I simply looked at this application and found it's features interesting, I just didn't like, at all, the UI and thought that maybe I could help you on that field. But like I said, right now, I don't have the time for it, too many university exams to think about... But I would love to help in this regard when I get the time for it...

I agree with you but not entirely... Doesn't usability gets improved if the interface is simpler and easier to use too? In my opinion, it does... But that's just me, I can't develop an application without a good interface in mind. Either way, I'm not asking fekker to concentrate his efforts on the design and leave the rest, he can keep doing what he's doing and when I have the time for it, I'll help him improve the design if we wants, unless someone else steps in before I get the chance.

As long as the Looks doesn't bloat the software and make it a resource hog. All the prettiness often does.

Personally I don't see any issues with the way it looks. It works and personally I'm happy with it, but that is just my opinion of course.
