RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2016/01/03] - madmad - 2016-01-31

I'm running a CHROMEBOX-M075U with OpenELEC 6.0.1 I've been experiencing random crashes which result in a boot loop shown in the video below. To resolve the issue I have to pull the power and then it will boot into OpenELEC without out issue. It appears to be completely random as to when this happens, anyone seen this before?

I know it's not the place but I can't seem to find anything for OpenElec around this other than a dev on OpenElec's forums stating autodl-irssi won't work. I'll continue researching though.
I'm just talking about overall, nothing specific with autodl-irssi. With OpenELEC, everything works out of the box; with Ubuntu/Kodibuntu etc, remotes, Bluetooth, video drivers, etc will likely need some TLC to get working 100%, that's all.

Well I stuck it out with OpenElec, fumbled and stumbled while researching and attempting things. In the end I have rtorrent working with RSS feeds as well as SickPotatoHead helping me with all the rest of my needs. Glad I came here for your opinion!

I am using the 6.0.98-fritz build on an Asus Celeron chromebox. Sometimes, seemingly at random, when I change between different video streams {for example changing directly from a live tv stream to a video on my NAS box) the audio in Kodi disappears and can't be restored without a reboot.

I've thought about posting at the Openelec forums but it seems really quiet over there and not terribly active. I would post here at the Kodi forums, but I'm not sure where the best place would be to do it for such a specialised build (plus it is Openelec, not pure Kodi).

Any recommendations?

Cheers, Rich

You are not alone, this is happening to me as well. I have the same hardware and same build. Luckily it rarely happens, and I have not been able to "catch it" with debug on. I have my audio output and passthrough output set to "HDA Intel, MEI Panasonic-TV on HDMI #0". Its connected to a Yamaha Rx-A1020 receiver ---> TV. What happens is, randomly, oftenly when switching rapidly between video files the audio dies. If I go in to setup and check I can see that the output and passthrough output has been changed to "HDA Intel on HDMI #0" (without the Panasonic TV part). And checking the options the output "HDA Intel, MEI Panasonic-TV on HDMI #0"is missing. A reboot is the only thing that helps. Not sure whats going on, maybe something with the handshake? But if handshake was borked wouldnt the picture/video also disappear?

I'm trying to boot an Windows To Go of Win10 Ultimate, created by the WinToUSB tool. However, the Chromebox apparently doesn't recognize the USB drive. It's a 2.5" HDD to USB enclosure, could that be the problem? I used the recommended partitions advised here: http://www.easyuefi.com/wintousb/faq/en_US/How-to-use-WinToUSB-ISO-To-USB.html

Upgrade from what? If you're just updating OE, then you don't need to touch the firmware - just follow the upgrade instructions in the wiki

I upgraded to OpenElec 6.0.1 using the Generic x86_64 from OpenElec but I've noticed lately that the box is not responsive sometimes during playback and you can't press pause/stop like I used to or the on screen menus don't go away and the counting timer showing progress is displaying.

I put the tar file in /storage/.update folder and rebooted as per the procedures

Do I need to reimage my Chromebox and what is the best procedure?

Is this a common problem with the Chromebox or OpenElec?

I was having problems with some of my plugins so I just upgraded OpenElec first and ran into these problems.

Dang, posted in the wrong thread. This was supposed to go to the Windows on Chromebox thread which Matt also participates in.

Given that OpenELEC 6.0.1 was released less than 48 hours ago, I doubt there are many ChromeBox users running it, since most are using the Intel-EGL build from fritsch which will not auto-update (and you don't want to since you'd lose the EGL benefits). I haven't tested it yet since I have no intention of running it - instead I'll be releasing an updated Intel-EGL build with the 6.0.1 updates rolled in.

In the meantime, you can either downgrade to the previous version you were running via the same method you upgraded, or simply do a hard reset from the OpenELEC/General settings, which is effectively the same as a clean install

I've had such issues myself with Kodi 15. You could try setting vsync to "Let driver decide". It fixed it for me.

well I upgraded to 6.0 a while back and it upgraded to 6.0.1 automatically Smile

OK I'll try looking for the vsync option (and see what it is currently) - how does this effect the unresponsiveness of the app and things like pausing/stop besides the onscreen things?

EDIT: I look forward to instructions on how to update to 6.0.1 the MattDevo way and I guess I'll have to backup my settings and manually put them back in or will it keep all of my configs?
