In the context menu, use "Add timer" instead of "Record" and the timer settings dialog will appear, preconfigured to do a series recording for the currently selected epg event.

Would it be possible, if not to hard to do, to have it like MythTV has in it's EPG? Pressing multiple times on the record toggles between the most common recording types? First press singel recording, press again series recording, press again no recording? I think the most common types should be easy to access without having to do extra steps. This should be easy for wife and children too.

As far as I know Kodi does not use and code wise does not support multi click actions. So, I'd say, long way to go, including fundamental Kodi core code changes.

In Krypton, there is a new action "showtimerrule" which can be mapped to whatever button you want. This actions opens the timer settings dialog, preconfigured for a series recording for the currently selected epg event.

In the guide window, key "t" is preconfigured for this action.

So at the moment I would configure the following two actions in the keymap (I use a "harmony smart control" remote):

Code:
<remote>
  <record>Record</record>
  <record mod="longpress">showtimerrule</record>
</remote>

Better would be a capability to configure the series timer settings once in the general live tv settings and call these with another new action (which doesn't exist at the moment). This way you don't have to configure the series timer again and again for every series timer, but you are able to change the series timer settings if you want.

What do you think about this?

@hoppel118

Nice idea. I also thought several times about "templates" for timers. Unfortunately implementation is no low hanging fruit. As always, on my end it's "only" a matter of free time.

Regarding the key mapping:

* longpress is perfect. unfortunately not all remotes, including hdmi-cec remotes, do support longpress
* be aware that you cannot put "showtimerrule" in arbitrary sections of remote.xml, it only works if you are in the tv or radio guide window

Yes, you are right. But everything starts with an idea. [WINKING FACE]

Would be happy to see this some day. Sadly I am not a dev. I can only give you my ideas. [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

1. harmony smart control supports longpress
2. this why I used the tags for the <remote> section

Too bad. I think it would be a great idea. Even when pressing a specific record button on your remote in the EPG grid. Possibility to use only one button to select the recording type.

I have another question to krypton live tv. In the actual changelog I saw the following:

Quote:Added support for navigation controls between EDL (commercial skipping) during PVR recodings playback

http://kodi.wiki/view/Kodi_v17_(Krypton)_changelog

1. Does this mean that it is possible to skip commercial breaks in krypton "automatically" while watching a recording?
2. Do I have to press a key or how does it work?
3. Which role plays the pvr backend? I use VDR...

Greetings Hoppel

I am using a nightly version of Kodi and mythtv. During a recording a popup comes up and says something along the lines of “commercial break 2:55”. I have mythtv set to flag commercials and remove them but when I saw that popup I don’t think that I gave my backend time to remove the commercials.

Ok, at the moment I don't know how to flag and remove commercials with vdr and vnsi (interface between vdr and kodi), but that would be a really great feature. TOP!

RE: Discuss improvements for pvr section - raptorjr - 2016-09-08

Don't know if it has been discussed, but it is kind of hard to jump to the point of LiveTV if you have paused for a few minutes.

If you have paused for a few minutes and then there is some commercial or something you want to skip over. If you try to skip beyond the LiveTV point you just stay where you were. So to be able to get to the end of the buffer and see live again you have to do mini jumps when you get close to the end of the buffer.

If I have paused for 2 minutes, I would like to be able to skip 3 minutes and be sure that I'm watching live again. Don't want to skip 1 minute, and then a lot of 15s skips to get close to the end. It would be impossible to define skip steps that always would be perfect for this.

So my feature request is, being able to skip beyond the end of the buffer and Kodi understands that it should take me to the end. Not see it as a failure to skip and stay where I am.

RE: Discuss improvements for pvr section - raptorjr - 2016-10-04

I'll just continue with some input on things I hope could get fixed with LiveTV. Hope someone with the right knowledge to make changes reads this =)

It would be nice if the "Ends at" time in the OSD info screen would adjust for a paused LiveTV show. Now it seems to take the end time from the EPG. So when you have paused for a while the "Ends at" says that the TV show ends at f.ex. 19:00, but the current time shows 19:05 and you still have a few minutes left before the end.

And this is a little follow up of my previous post.

It is also not possible to skip forward to the next show, if you have paused LiveTV. F.ex. you would like to skip over the commercial between two shows. You can skip close to the end of the first show, but have to watch 15-20 seconds of the end. Kodi won't let you skip to the end. And then, when you have waited and the next show have started (remember that you are still a bit behind the LiveTV position), you still cant skip forward in the new show. If you try you just get back to a few seconds after where you were. So it is not possible to return to LiveTV without exit and restart LiveTV.

I'm using daily Milhouse build of Kodi on a Pi3.

I'm not a skinner. If a skinner steps up to implement this I will be happy to add the missing Kodi core functionality

RE: Discuss improvements for pvr section - mcelliott - 2017-03-06

There is one change that was added to MediaPortal when I was a member of the development team (test, not coder, before you ask me to do it!).

When you have a list of TV recordings, if there is only one episode of a particular program, don't show the folder structure, just show the episode.

I don't know if this makes sense in terms of the way Kodi handles things. For example, if Kodi is simply showing the folder structure in the SMB share in the case of MediaPortal, it might not work, but it definitely adds to the usability to not have to navigate into/out of a folder when there is only going to be one item in it.

Best wishes,

Mark

I believe this is implemented in the PVR client. IIRC, MythTV does this with groups that have only a single recording.
