I expect the next sale to come back within a month though
I also expect the demand to be much higher!
the KinHanK is going to be popular now!

RE: State of Kodi Media Players: Best Options in 2024 - MediaPi - 2024-09-03

the coreelec forumn now has upgraded the KinHanK G1 as the number one best device for coreelec 2024 (from Astrotrain)

1/Kinhank/Orbsmart G1 is the cheapest box and also certified to support Netflix. It has a microsd slot so that CoreELEC can be installed without using an USB port and an IR receiver to wake the device from sleep. Runs Android TV 11.

Conclusion
The best overall device is the Kinhank G1. It combines support for Dolby Vision including FEL and AV1 with a certified Android TV box for an extremely low price. The Homatics Box R 4k Plus is a good alternative if you want a more recent flavor of android.
The Ugoos AM6b+ is in second place with it’s slightly faster processor and the ability to install COREelec to the emmc, but it runs an older version of Android and sacrifices support for certified apps including Netflix and AV1.

btw the box Portisch had isn't a new box, they tried a long time to get gig ethernet working but couldn't.
it just works in ng coreelec. which means all boxes new or old will work with ng coreelec and that's going to be released tommorow I believe

RE: State of Kodi Media Players: Best Options in 2024 - MediaPi - 2024-09-04

some weird glitch going on
the price has increased for shipping to USA to $65
but if you ship to UK in USD, it's showing as $56!!!

RE: State of Kodi Media Players: Best Options in 2024 - mrcleeo - 2024-09-04

Do these boxes have issues playing Atmos?

RE: State of Kodi Media Players: Best Options in 2024 - MediaPi - 2024-09-04

pretty sure it plays all HD audio, otherwise it would have been mentioned in coreelec forumn

RE: State of Kodi Media Players: Best Options in 2024 - hdmkv - 2024-09-04

All should, on the CE side. On Android side, ATV 12 is needed for DTS-HD MA passthrough on DV-licensed S905X4 devices we've been discussing. On Kinhank G1, believe HD audio is not supported on Android side. Updated post #1 with all the news; please post any corrections needed.

Initial inspection of the bootloader included with the recent ota update to the Kinhank G1 indicates that the device has been significantly locked down. It may no longer be able to boot from USB in order to run CE. Owners of this device that haven’t installed the ota update yet may wish to consider waiting for confirmation before installing the ota.

Quote:Thank you for your feedback.

In this update, we’ve added the option to turn off HDR10 and HDR10 Adaptive.

However, the feature to automatically switch between HDR10 and Dolby Vision was not included.

Rest assured, we will address this in a future update. Kinhank g1

That got real old real fast Sad

Now that Kinhank has locked the bootloader in the latest OTA update, it will no longer boot to CoreELEC. I also read that to enable developer options in ATV, you need to send your serial number to Kinhank support first so they can calculate the required password for it.

I wonder what the reasoning behind all this is? Pressure from Google or Dolby? It will hurt their sales for sure...

okay so I made a dummy account for facebook and told informed them of the situation. they are making a bad marketing and financial decision.
if more people voice their concerns. we have a bigger chance of a change.
anyone who is disappointed (which should be everyone that wants the best kodi box for cheapest price) and wants to let message them asking them kindly to consider giving us access back you can do on this facebook page

Do you seriously think that their sales would be impacted by missing (maybe) a couple of hundred CE users, who would buy this box because of it's FEL capability? I don't think so, and don't think that they care so much for CE customers, as they do for all others who buy this box without even knowing that CoreElec exists.
It will not became the first L1/Netflix certified box on which CE cannot be installed, nor the last...

Li/Netflix is literally a third of the equation. do you realise only the AMB6+ could do FEL, that box cost like £150. that can't even do AV1 properly.
doesn't have the same features in KODI and it costs 3x the amount G1 cost!
you are missing the way bigger picture and underestimate this box. The price is the thing that makes this very exceptional box. before this box you had to spend £150 now you can spend £53 shipped to my address.
and also even Kinhank themselves couldn't get gig working and it's working in Coreelec. having a gig ethernet is a massive deal and it expands their userbase.
it's a snowballing effect. you have more sales from coreelec which boost the exposure and others buy for android only.
you have many more people know of the brand. and say 5% look at their other products and 2% buy.
and lastly you do realise this box hasn't even had official support yet.
what do you think will happen if coreelec had a little time to iron out all the stuff on this?
Rpi took bloody years to get ironed out.
being so cheap for what it does that devices 3 times the price can't do! $60 for a kodi box that will last 5 years.

FEL "customers", like me, don't give much concern to AV1; to enjoy FEL they sure have proper modern TVs that can do AV1 without problem. I have it on LG with NF app and am not overwhelmed by it, and have never seen any AV1 material that surpasses BD FEL quality.
BTW, which Kodi features does AM6B+ not have and G1 has?
