Back to the Homatics box for now. Glad I talked to the seller and she caught my box at the center and cancelled my order. I told her exactly why and she was also mad. I was the 4th person to cancel the day kinhank put the new FW out.

Since this box is made by SDMC I think that they provide Firmware for it, not Kinhank which are only sellers for this device.

I’m looking for a second all in one box. I just got one of the Homatics Box R 4K Plus and my wife wants to keep it for her TV. So now I’m looking to get another box. Which one would be the best one out of the Homatics Box R 4K Plus, Dune Box R 4K Plus, or the Dune HD Premier 4k Pro?
I was looking at the Ugoos boxes but they don’t support online streaming apps.
And is there a website to get more familiar with CE? I don’t think I quite fully understand what it is.

Homatics, Dune, etc. are mostly if you want full Dolby Vision support on the CE side. If streaming apps are the primary use case, and you're okay w/non TV-led FEL DV, then Fire TV Cube 3 & Shield TV are better options. Additionally, if you don't need HD audio, add cheaper onn Google TV 4K Pro & the new Google TV Streamer 4K as options.

ATV12 is still in beta on that device. The betas you can actually obtain so far have been buggy, best to wait a bit for a better release. It has been slow progress on that front so you could be waiting a while.

Those that updated to new FW need to contact KinHank to provide them original FW so that they can revert their G1 to original state, the state they paid for it. Otherwise they are cheated and should think about legal actions against KinHank.

Pretty sure any company can lock bootloader anytime they want. Sony did it with play station to lock out Linux, they never got any legal action for that.
Firecube was able to load coreelec, now you can't, did they get any legal action for that? or people demanding to have original FW?
also you do realise if they release the original firmware that it will be out their for everyone to use which defeats the purpose of forcefully locking the system down...

Homatics non dune version is the first to get firmware updates. Those updates then trickle down to the other devices.
Nokia is releasing firmwares that Homatics still considers beta as stable. It is buggy and there are valid reasons Homatics has not released them as stable. I personally am avoiding every beta released thus far.

Agree with what you're saying re Kinhank - but the situation with Sony was different as being able to run Other OS stuff was an advertised feature.
