RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21] - nickr - 2017-04-12 @HarryMohan, please do NOT refer to banned addons again. RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21] - GS500F - 2017-04-13 I have spend a few hours now going through forums and need help. I have an ASUS Chrome Box CN62 now running FW MrChromebox 04/09/2017 and when i power it up i see the white hare quickly a large scrolling list and then get "Shell>" Next i ran RUFUS created a boot disk image (tried ISO and DD) with 'galliumos-broadwell-cbox-2.1' and then played around in the Boot Maintainance manager - boot from file (i see the USB drive as the top option) but inside it is only <lost+Found> <unencrypted> <home><Encrypted><dev_image>. There doesnt appear to be anything i can run against in any of these folders. ideally i am trying to get back to ChromeOS so i can get Kodi up and running. RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21] - Matt Devo - 2017-04-13 (2017-04-13, 09:29)GS500F Wrote: I have spend a few hours now going through forums and need help. the UEFI firmware is flashed and running correctly, all you need to do is install an OS. dd'ing GaOS 2.1 to USB should work (it does here), but since it's not, I'd suggest trying another USB after first verifying the MD5 of the downloaded ISO file. Since the USB device is showing up in boot manager (you said it's the top option, which is expected), I'd lean towards the USB being written incorrectly vs the USB stick itself being problematic. You DO NOT want to go back to ChromeOS, doing so just increases the chance of something else going wrong. Right now, everything is fine, all you need is to install a UEFI-compatible OS. RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21] - GS500F - 2017-04-14 Thanks Matt. Looks like it was the USB Key that caused my issues as a fresh verbatim 32gb USB from Kmart worked 1st time. RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21] - stewartgp - 2017-04-14 Hi all, I have been running a dualboot setup to primarily use OE/LE on my Chromebox CN60 (Haswell Celeron) since 2014 and it has been awesome, thanks Matt! However I have gotten to a stage where I am running out of space on the original 16GB SSD (I had to delete the thumbnail cache to free up enough space on the 9gb partition to be able to do a manual update) so I am thinking I will upgrade the SSD to a 128 or even 256gb size. My questions are: 1. What is the easiest way for me to upgrade the SSD and still retain my settings? A full backup of LE, replace the ssd, redo dualboot setup on new ssd with latest firmware, restore LE from my backup? 2. On the original ssd I used 9 of the 16gb total for my OE/LE partition size. I really only use my chromebox as a HTPC booting into LE, although I like to have the chromeOS there as an option to use occasionally but it is quite rare. Based on this usage model I assume I would be fine giving the LE partition all but say 10gb? 3. At this stage am I better off buying a new Chromebox entirely? It has been running OE/LE noticeably slower over the last 6-12 months, although the reason for this is difficult to know. I run my HTPC to access a mySQL database stored on a synology NAS, connected via Ethernet cable. Most of the content is 1080p rips upscaling to a 4ktv. The slowness is most noticeable browsing through my content in the menu system. Based on this (admittedly limited) information and maybe others own experiences would anyone be prepared to speculate on the likely bottleneck? CPU/SSD/too much data having to pass through the Network? 4 gb ram seems to be no issue... Thanks again everybody. RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21] - Matt Devo - 2017-04-14 (2017-04-14, 14:32)stewartgp Wrote: Hi all, easy peasy: - backup existing LE config - install new SSD - restore ChromeOS using recovery media - re-install LE using EZ Setup Script - restore LE backup You're perfectly safe to assign as much space to LE as you want, leaving ChromeOS 10GB or so (just use the max the script recommends). I run a similar setup re: mysql on Synology over LAN and have zero speed issues. If you're running the Kodi UI at 4k, then that's definitely going to be sluggish since max refresh there is 30Hz at 4K. I'd recommend running the Kodi UI at 1080p/60 and using refresh-rate switching on start/stop to let Kodi output film content at 2160p24 as needed. No need to upgrade IMO unless you want 4K UI and/or HEVC playback, but even then I'd wait as there's no perfect 4Kp60/HEVC/HDR box yet RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21] - stewartgp - 2017-04-14 (2017-04-14, 14:52)Matt Devo Wrote: easy peasy: Great info, thanks again Matt. I'm not running the UI at 4k so that isn't the issue with sluggishness and it was present before I upgraded to the newer TV. Looks like it is something else in my setup. I will see how it runs with the new SSD and go from there, good to know there is no need to upgrade anything else for now... RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21] - AP0ll0UK - 2017-04-15 Now that Krypton has been released for a while, I thought I'd upgrade my Chromebox - I wish I hadn't. After the upgrade I rebooted and was greeted by the v17 GUI and was told that my library was empty. I can browse the shares on my NAS with no issues. Is this normal behaviour? Also, I took a backup prior to the upgrade and may go back to v16.1. What would be the quickest and cleanest way to do this please? RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21] - Matt Devo - 2017-04-15 (2017-04-15, 14:37)AP0ll0UK Wrote: Now that Krypton has been released for a while, I thought I'd upgrade my Chromebox - I wish I hadn't. not normal at all, first I've heard of it. I'd just restore the backup and let Kodi redo the library update, see if that works. If not, then do a manual upgrade (downgrade) to LE 7.0.2 and the restore the back afterwards RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21] - AP0ll0UK - 2017-04-15 (2017-04-15, 20:30)Matt Devo Wrote: not normal at all, first I've heard of it. The downgrade has done it, thank you. I was trying to find out whether I could downgrade it that way before goig ahead with it and busting the entire system so thank you for confirming that. I'm back on 16.1 with my library intact I had tried the restore into Kodi 17 but it ran through far too quick to suggest anything other than it hadn't worked. Having done some reading this evening though, I think I'm going to go with LibreElec long term. I was reading through the Chromebox wiki and could see LibreElec mentioned regularly [I'm guessing that's what you're running] and having dug further LibreElec sounds like it's the way to go. I just need to go through my system first and look at which config files I need to backup for connectivity to my NAS as I remember it taking a while when I did this last year. .....that's a job for tomorrow though Thanks again mate RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21] - Matt Devo - 2017-04-15 (2017-04-15, 21:15)AP0ll0UK Wrote: Hey Matt! yes, I run LE myself on my main box, and assist the LE team with testing etc on Intel devices. All you need to backup is Advancedsettings.xml and sources.xml from the userdata folder. But I'm not sure why you're having issues, I've done the upgrade dozens of times here without issue. If you're using a mySQL library on your NAS, you'll want to go in and manually delete the Kodi v17 databases so that they are properly re-created/re-populated when you do move to LE8/Kodi 17 RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2017/02/21] - AP0ll0UK - 2017-04-15 My Chromebox connects to my Nas via CIFS share which was all setup in the terminal so I need to backtrack and find out where I configured it. I'll find it, it's just been a while. I'm not sure why I had issues either to be honest. My setup is fairly simple and I don't have a mySQL setup on my Nas. Thank you for the advice though I'll try it again tomorrow and see what happens. Failing that I'll backup everything that I need and then rebuild it based on LibreElec and then take it from there.
