Could you put the current weather info next to the clock so it is always shown with clock?

I found a 'problem' with the landscape thumbs in Channels. The thumb doesn't cover the default background completely.
Is this because the artwork has a fixed aspect ratio? Maybe these little deviations could be solved with no fixed aspect ratio of the thumb.

Noticed that this morning too, fix is lined up Smile It's more a matter of different windows' artwork types needing different aspect ratios

RE: Grid - Jeroen - 2017-10-07

Right, with the forum finally back up (hosting company: you're fired) here are a couple of things that are good to know.

First of all, Grid's Github repository is now publicly accessible. However, my advice is to keep using the repository add-on to get updates. You're not going to get any suprising new features or changes pulling from the Github repository, any changes I make tend to get pushed onto the repository add-on pretty quickly. So all you'll get pulling from Github is unfinished bits and broken pieces Wink

Secondly, I have made some changes as to how you can choose between portrait and landscape oriented artwork in list view. Previously this was handled by a skin setting which would determine what type of artwork should be used, all within one viewtype. I have decided to make these into two separate viewtypes. There are a couple of reasons for this. One being that it is nearly impossible to make sure the choice is only available when it makes sense. often times this is with add-ons. The add-ons playing field basically is total anarchy. I'm not going to go into great detail here, but trust me when I say it is the single most frustrating thing about developing Kodi skins. Usually I tend to leave the responsibility for this with Kodi and/or add-on developers but finding ways around some of the issues also affects add-ons that do integrate nicely into Kodi. So that's a problem.

To make a long story short: in the video window you can now choose between the two different list view modes simply by using the viewtype switcher.

It also brings some extra advantages such as being able to choose between portrait and landscape art in non-library sources too. So a bit more flexibility is available there.

I'm really loving this skin. It's very clean and every menu is so unique well put together that sometimes I forgot this is kodi we are talking about. I'm having an issue with artwork downloader not doing it's job. Could not be related to the skin but maybe you have insider info about the addon not working or smth like that. Also have you considered adding animations to the skin. Like for example a parallax effect to the fanart when you open the side menu. I know kodi is demanding but small things like for example the label that tells you the status of a movie image make it animated like the steam big picture (the small green bar that animates once you hover over the poster) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRNxK4Eedd0&feature=youtu.be
I don't have major bugs to report, it's perfect. Just these silly suggestions! Keep up the great work!

@Swageroni_ - Artwork downloader hasn't been working properly for a while. The API keys it is using are out of date and it hasn't been updated with new ones.
You need to manually add your own API keys -- see the post by shedrock here:

Thanks, glad you like it Smile About the animations, who knows Wink I don't have any direct plans for more animations but then again, I am not really thinking very far beyond the official release at the moment. Personally I prefer animations to be subtle and functional. Animations for the sake of it don't really do much but slow down imo (not just performance wise, but also "work"flow wise. Also, animations in Kodi's skinning engine are quite limited.

TLDR: no plans at the moment Wink

And about artwork downloader, what JM said Smile

RE: Grid - Swageroni_ - 2017-10-09

Fair enough. I get what you mean. I'm just a sucker for animations in general that make everything look better, If the engine supports them that is is! either way keep up the good work. Also fixed the artwork thing, thanks @jurialmunkey <3

(2017-09-25, 15:53)Jeroen Wrote: Just a little heads up. Starting with the next update, the addon ID of the skin will be changed from skin.grid to skin.grid.krypton when you pull it from my repository add-on. This also means you will not see an update for your current install, but you will have to install it as a separate skin. This also means you will have to reapply any skin settings on the new install, or to copy the skin settings file from the skin.grid install to the skin.grid.krypton install.

If you are using the Leia version nothing will change for you as that one is already using a different addon ID (skin.grid.leia).

This is needed because I am preparing for an official release on the Kodi repo. That version will use the skin.grid addon ID. If I would keep using the same addon ID in my repository this would mean the official release would be overwritten with a beta when one is available. So my repository will continue to be a beta channel so to speak.

After the next update any versions using the skin.grid addon ID will be removed.

If you do nothing, eventually your current install will be updated with the official release on the Kodi repo.

Yes, quoting myself Wink

So, the above has not happened (yet) because of the forum downtime and also the rework on the list view I wanted to get done first.

The first official release has been submitted to the Kodi repo, which hopefully means that Grid will be widely available from the Kodi add-on repository soon.

That also means I will not be pushing updated to Grid's repository add-on as often anymore. In fact it will probably be a while for any beta release to arrive.

Biggest reason for this is that I would like to have a bit more time to actually use it more often myself Wink I have been working on Grid on a pretty much daily basis for the last 6 months or so. With great pleasure mind you, but I am going to take a little break from it. Which probably means I'll still be working on it anyway Big Grin, but just at a little slower pace. Also, I have some other projects waiting to get some more attention. I will still be around here, not going anywhere, just appreciating how far I got to take this project so far Smile

RE: Grid - henrikyo - 2017-10-10

HI jeroen saw your above post, I setup a new kodi box in the kids room, and saw two different files on your repo. Is this not the correct way to get "latest" skin updates. Should i just use official repo?

It was two different version, one 1.35 i think and one 1.42

edit; nevermind i think i got it Smile

Grid is currently awaiting review / approval so therefore not available through the official repository just yet. If you grab the latest version (1.2.46) from my repository add-on, it is functionally the same as the one submitted to the official repo.

You can also manually install this release, which is identical.

Note though, this only applies to the Krypton version. If you are seeing two versions of Grid in the add-on browser you are likely running Leia. Leia is still far away and Grid has not been submitted to the Leia repo, only Krypton.

RE: Grid - Raitsa - 2017-10-10

I know we should not report Leia bug reports but have to mention that the Leia Grid version menus sort of keep flashing on all of my 3 NUC´s.
On Krypton all was ok.

Anyone else noticed that?

Yes, I have noticed it too. I haven't tested with other skins but I am assuming it not be a skin issue though.

Is this on LibreElec by any chance?

RE: Grid - Raitsa - 2017-10-10

Thanks Jeroen; yes, all 3 NUC´s using Milhouse bleeding edge versions, updated usually a few times a week (upgradeaholic here).

Yeah, I suspect it's specific to those builds. I am not experiencing it on either my Krypton or Leia install on my dev station, only on my NUC running RetroPlayer test builds.

RE: Grid - Jeroen - 2017-10-11

Grid has been accepted to the official Kodi repo, welcome in it's own subforum Smile Cool
