Thanks.
Actually, I don't know it. I haven't delved into DV at all. Have one 4k movie.

Then I apologize for my snarkiness. How can you be here for so long and not delve into the benefits of 4k DV/HDR goodness. I mean I have ancient files I had on an OG XBOX that are so low quality that I play them on my computer monitor only since they look fine on it but horrible on my TV but I have to reacquire all of my favorites in UHD if possible. I'm patiently waiting for North By Northwest to release on UHD Blu-ray later this year.

Main reasons...
  1. Main setup is now ageing hardware (circa 2014 PC and 2017 tv) that I have been meaning to upgrade for the last two years, but never get around to it.
  2. I've watched 4k, but did not see it so overwhelmingly impressive that I needed to rush out and buy 4k disks - I have bought some when they are 4k+bluray release and are close to bluray prices, but I don't have optical disks to play or rip them so stick with bluray. Strangely the two times I went to a computer store to purchase a 4k optical drive, both times I was told they are not availableHuh

One reason for the confusion is that the drive itself isn't '4K' - it's just that the new UHD BD consumer standard moved to using BD discs with more layers than many regular BD drives sold for HD BD playback can read.

To read a UHD BD you need a drive that can read the newer, larger capacity BDs. Some drives that weren't sold as 'UHD compatible' can be used for backing-up - though research is needed. I've got two UHD-friendly BD drives - one wasn't marketed as '4K' and won't work with official player software as I understand it.

(HD BDs are limited to the 25/50GB BD discs, whereas UHD BDs can use 50GB and the newer 66GB/100GB discs)

To get overwhelmingly experience you'd need at least an 65" Oled display. Anything below that doesn't really do credit to todays UHD-DV Bluray production.
The thing we here talk about (DV with FEL / MEL) is watching full BD quality material on (usually Amlogic) boxes in full quality without using dedicated (and expensive) BD players.

TV's are getting cheaper and CoreELEC have done some amazing work on FEL, soon you'll have $50 android boxes that could do FEL which cost like $200+ I think
give it 2 years and they all will be doing it and OLED tv's will come down in price

I have one and bought a spare, an LG Electronics WH16NS40, last year because they are getting hard to find.

Thanks,

MasterKeyxda is getting ready to push a PR for CoreELEC for something special

All DTB files with g12b. Please report back with your findings of lscpu and cpu usage. Data and metrics are preferred.
For e.g. using software decode VC-1 used to consume 50% CPU across cores 0-5 but after update it consumes 20% on core 0-1 and 65% on core 2-5. Something like this is ideal if you are able to get data like that.
Complete quantified data can be had if there are perf binaries compiled for CE-NG.

cc: @saxman can you post lscpu output after this update

I have all the stuff ready in github, as soon as I have enough confidence I am creating a PR and it will be pushed to nightlies.

if anyone with either of those hardware is able and willing to test those and report back on CoreELEC thread or just post here so I can pass on that informaiton would be awesome

https://discourse.coreelec.org/t/s922x-ugoos-am6b-device-tree-performance-efficiency-testing-needed/52692/41

so far on my hardware it seems around 25% performance uplift

RE: Best Kodi Media Player Options 2024 - MediaPi - 2024-09-25

I just realised that this is only for the S922X SOC which is found in the already best device AMB6+, the Odroid N2(+), and even the fire cube second generation that has the S922Z (S922X rev b, Dolby Vision/Audio licensed)

according to this from YadaYada
Quote:The s928x has a 20-25% increase in single core performance, but the s922x has a 10-15% better multi-core performance.

(Amlogic S922X vs Amlogic S928X 8)

AndroidTVPC also posted benchmarks recently

So If I'm reading this right, users are reporting ~ 25% faster performance , most of that will be tied to single core, correct? that means it's equal to or faster than the s928x and it already had a faster multicore performance of 10% - 15%. So Now S922X is faster than the latest s928x all round. Also my Odroid N2+ has also gotten DV lol. this is crazy. 5 years later and my SOC has almost gotten everything!

I would love hdmkv testing on this with the hardware he has. I should be able to test this soon myself

Whoa, wait! N2+ can DV now?! FEL too? Gotta do some catching up on CE forum.

damn, you need a vacation from here, starting 2050 we'll give you one weekend off

Ha ha, yes, if this wasn't such an addictive hobby as well Wink Big Grin!

So, I did the G12B performance enhancement you alerted us about, and it's the real deal! This, in combination w/choosing HS400, has made my Ugoos AM6B+ units significantly snappier than without.

bloody fantastic news!!! damn so excited and love your work on this! I posted a comment that got flagged. I was wondering if we can do a test comparing it to the S928X SOC, run both the test and we have an idea of single core and multi core performance. The AMB6+ has probably cemented it's number 1 position for the next 4 years.
theirs talks that the Developer might take a look at s905x4 boxes to! everyone gets a free hardware upgrade!

also the Developer is considering trading in heat for more performance, maybe we can have different profiles
CoreELEC have made me fall in love with Kodi hardware again last few months!
again thanks for testing! Big Grin
