RE: reFocus 1.3.3 for Gotham - Jeroen - 2014-06-30

Thanks for the feedback guys they have definitely not convinced me either. Just to be clear though those were never meant as a replacement to the shelf. Just an intermediate step so that the widget itself could stay hidden until called. So they're more notifications in that way letting you know there's "stuff under there"

I have gone through several other setups since, and they all fail in terms of usability, flexibility or performance. So chances are I'll end up keeping the shelf more or less as-is. And that's basically ok, but like I said before that means scrapping other plans.

(2014-06-30, 21:07)Unfledged Wrote: Just a suggestion, which I know you'll feel free to ignore, but how about keeping the shelf as it is, but providing quick access to library views filled by the widget provider - instead of a left press collapsing the menu, it would go to the relevant library view instead. That way you still keep the full shelf function, but give additional functions easily (and without any performance issues on the home page caused by the widgets loading).

Sorry but I'm not entirely sure I know what you mean. Say I'm on the tv shows main menu item and I press left, what would happen? I assume you don't mean actually opening the library window?

It doesn't sound like it will solve the issues causing me to look for a different solution in the first place, but who knows it will spark something Wink

Actually I do mean open the library view, to (say) the episode watch list, or a recent episodes playlist, or whatever - quick access to something specific to that menu item, whilst still keeping the shelf as is. I actually tried it in my own skin when I was going through a similar issue with you. It worked well enough, though I never got the submenu right with the method so I abandoned it.

RE: reFocus 1.3.3 for Gotham - Jeroen - 2014-06-30

Oh right, I get it. It's a bit too "mystery button" for my taste, but if this could be totally user customizable it could be an interesting option.

But yeah the issues at hand remain, so I'm going to have to make a choice between current possibilities and future plans here. I do like the look and uniqueness of the current shelf/widgets but in reality I don't use it often as it's almost just as quick to go into the watchlist in the library window, which offers a more practical navigation.

Still I like the idea of having something on the homescreen notify me what's new. And the current implementation lacks a little in that area.

RE: reFocus 1.3.3 for Gotham - removed151214 - 2014-06-30

I'd go for future plans every time Smile

RE: reFocus 1.3.3 for Gotham - Jeroen - 2014-06-30

That would mean going for not keeping the shelf as is Tongue

RE: reFocus 1.3.3 for Gotham - removed151214 - 2014-06-30

If that means we get something better in the future (and I trust your design skills enough to know that it does), then so be it!

RE: reFocus 1.3.3 for Gotham - braz - 2014-07-01

Been using reFocus 1.3.3 (from git) for about a week now and gotta say it's the most complete/unified skin I've used, there's really no functionality I want to add or change. Did find a few very minor distractions though...

In Big List, part of a row of text is visible when the plot scrolls to the bottom.

Image

On dialogs, the bottom of the text is sometimes cut off. Can be seen when cleaning the library or starting a Party Mode playlist.

Image

The menu behaves inconsistently, though please disregard if this is by design. When the menu is too long to fit the screen it extends right to the bottom edge of the screen. But when the menu is pushed up, it doesn't go to the edge of the screen, rather it stays within the menu area. Hope this makes sense, should be visible in the screenshot. In this example, Music is not the first menu item, there are a few above it.

Image

One last request, would it be possible to make the default thumb textures in /media/thumbs/ greyscale, and then color them with colordiffuse? That would allow for complete color themes without touching any textures.

If anyone wants to download the brown theme, just right click and save as...Brown.xml

Thanks Jeroen!

Hi Jeroen, the new menu is amazing! The customization window is very clear.
I have two questions:
Is possible to add a container at the main menu level (like "More") and have a submenu with the usual items ?
I want to group the things i don't use often (like pictures, weather, etc.). Hope i'm clear.

Second, what is the function of script.watchlist ? It seems to me like "in progress", but is possible i don't understand how it works.

Thanks for the wonderful work.

RE: reFocus 1.3.3 for Gotham - removed151214 - 2014-07-01

I hope Jeroen won't mind if I step in to answer those.

Regards the main menu, yes it's entirely possible (I actually do the same). Create a new main menu item by selecting "Add" from the list on the right, then either choose a shortcut for it or give it a label (menu items must have labels). Then customize the submenu to your hearts content.

The episode watchlist shows the first unwatched episode for your in progress tv shows. The movie wstchlist shows movies you've stopped part way.

Good observations, I'll look into them. Cheers!

Yes, I am in the process of redoing some icons and other textures, I'll put this on my list too.

If i understand you correctly, you can already so this. Just add a new shortcut and put those things in it's submenu?

It creates a list of the first unwatched episode of each of the tv shows you're following.

So, in this example as soon as I watch this episode of House of Cards, the list will update and show House of Cards episode 12:

In the case of movies it creates a list of movies you have partially watched.

EDIT: Unfledged beat me Wink

RE: reFocus 1.3.3 for Gotham - Namekkural - 2014-07-01

Hey, missed a lot of stuff since I was here last time Wink
I'd like to comment on the shelf options again, add some information. Jeroen you provided this recents.xsp file you deleted because in your system they didn't do what you'd expect them to do. I tested it, its exactly the file I was looking for. And it works! It shows the last 20 movies/episodes that I haven't played, newest first. Don't know why it works for me but it sure is THE thing I was looking for. Thanks, although I don't understand it Wink

AND: Is there a guide on how to code new menu entries? I mean if I accidently delete the videos button, how do I know what to put into the action field? I searched the web, didn't find anything. Or is this specific to your skin?

RE: reFocus 1.3.3 for Gotham - removed151214 - 2014-07-01

For Videos - and a variety of other options I thought people might want in their main menu - Choose Shortcut, and select the Common group (the first group) of available shortcuts.

RE: reFocus 1.3.3 for Gotham - Namekkural - 2014-07-01

oh, thanks Wink that's easy

Thanks to both of you. Finally i understand what watchlist is (very powerful !).
Just a idea: write a little info in the addon.xml, for new users.

Also i begin to understand how the script.skinshortcuts works. I'm reading the manual now.
A question: is possible to provide an element not-erasable by the user?
