Feature Request: Offline Caching of Libraries.

The first iOS app I used for remote XBMC Control was XBMCommander. While it was good, it has nothing on the quality of this app. So first and foremost thank you for the hard work on both XBMC and this app!

The only thing I see it did that this doesn't was that it would cache your library and allow you to view offline. It would be nice to have this feature to check out your library while at work and show friends, or look at what you have to watch before you boot-up XBMC.

If you turn on the LED Torch function while the system is booting and dont turn it off before XBMC starts and the app connects, there is no way to turn it off in the app unless you disconnect from the server and go to the settings. Maybe you could add the Torch function to the connected server list too?
Eh eh, I forgot to add the led torch button once connected in the server list right side options. Anyway, waiting for the fix, once connected, you can find the led torch button under the remote control view.

oh, nothing important, just saw that with the raspberry pi the zeroconf is enabled by default with the raspbmc image.

following this guide there is high probability of success! http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Raspberry_Pi

@FreakErn, thank you. My wish is that I can move the subsections into the main menĂ¹, so you can easily scroll to the desired sub-section directly from the main menu. Adding favorites in this new menu could be a nice idea.

@danmedhurst, are you on Eden? movies genres is supposed to work only with frodo.

@tudstudent, understood. but it's hard to find the time to make this specific test.

@nrk666, yeah, I'm missing too the StepForward/BigStepForward/StepBack/BigStepBack, I'm working on a solution.

@kromix, thank you. Offline Caching of Libraries isn't an easy task and has a low priority, but at the moment I haven't an internal db where the items are stored, everything is on demand to leave the things simple. But for the future could be a nice feature. Thank you for your support!

Yeah I'm on Eden Sad

Made a dual boot...
One side is opensuse 12.2 (with which the app is not working properly)
Other side is Ubuntu 12.10 (with which the remote is working, but the previous install was complaining about plymouth, hope I fixed it, testing is ongoing)

But with ubuntu the app is working perfect.

I currently use this app to control an XBMC instance that is not hooked to a monitor, just a stereo - I listen to music only.

Is there any way to also use it to control the Pandora add-on?

RE: [released] Official XBMC Remote for iOS - redfoxert - 2013-01-16

Hi,

I've been struggling with this app for about a week now and I can't seem to get any further. The thing is that the app won't connect to any OpenElec installed mediaplayer (Asrock ION330HT and a RaspberryPi). However, it does connect to my pc and laptop, running the same build. I'm running the OpenElec Frodo RC1 (2.95.1 build).

- I have already tried changing the internal port to connect to, did not help.
- I've checked the internal webserver on the correct port and username/password combination with Safari, works like a charm
- Installed Constellation (ieuw!) and that one works fine as well.
- Tried a different iPhone and iPod, same result, not working.

So far I've excluded pretty much everything that I can imagine. The only commonality i can find is the fact that both mediaplayers that are not working are running OpenElec. I'm not fond of changing this however, I like the way OpenElec installs and just runs, without much hassle. I really would like to get the official iOS XBMC Remote to work. If this works, I can easily replace all the mediaplayers in the house (currently 3 of which one RPi) with an RPi.

If anyone can point me in another direction its highly appreciated Smile

Is there a way to do a "Play from here" in the Tv Show, or Movies, or music, section? I figured out how to do it from the remote control by doing a long press on the center button, but i cant figure it out past that. Maybe a way to automatically queue up the rest of the episodes in a season? Is the code available anywhere for me to look at?

I tried to read the thread, but could not find the answer yet: Is EPG supported already or are there plans to do so?
I'm on Frodo RC3 and plan to purchase an IPad Mini.

Thank you very much.

RE: [released] Official XBMC Remote for iOS - fantasticn - 2013-01-17

I second this. EPG support would be great!!!

RE: [released] Official XBMC Remote for iOS - SenorLoco - 2013-01-17

Great app! I'd tried a number of remotes, but nothing comes close to this. Well done! A couple things on my wish list.

- I'd love to see the Artist and Albums switched on the music screen. The Albums takes much longer to load than the Artists, and 9 times out of 10 I select my music my artist instead of album.

- I like to keep my TvShows library clean and normally delete a show shortly after watching it so I'd love to see an option to delete watched shows right from the app. (tapping and holding on a tvshow or episode).

Either way this app is awesome and is something I've been using daily since I've found it!

this is a great suggestion. i mentioned the same thing, but suggested the app allowing you to select a default view. simply switching their order is an easier solution.

I have never used this add-on but, if I saw correctly the add-on screenshots, it seems not a "standard" add-on, like could be the radio add-on, but needs GUI inputs that can't be replicated due the fact the add-on don't have specific api calls that can be used.

@redfoxert, if from the device browser you can connect successfully, something goes wrong with the app. Try this:
from the XBMC GUI
- set the default username "xbmc"
- set a blank password
from the remote app
- set the same username "xbmc"
- leave the password field blank

If you can successfully connect, then re-insert your personal username/password in both XBMC GUI and remote app and let me know!

Yep, could be a nice feature. I will look into the feasibility. Actually if you choose "play" in Music > Album section, all the tracks are enqueued and the playback starts from the selected track. For movies and tv shows we have to enqueue one by one by tapping and holding the desired row.

@noxy, wow seems a phone issue. Can you try from the iphone safari to connect to xbmc with the same information used in the app:

http://<username>:<password>@<xbmc_ip>:<xbmc_port>

and see if it works?

@sukceso, @fantasticn, nope actually we haven't JSON API calls that treat live TV EPG.

@SenorLoco, @kmfdm515, I'm thinking to a solution where move the subsections into the main menĂ¹, so you can easily scroll to the desired sub-section directly from the main menu, but at the moment I can't swap the Artist and Albums order without the ability to re-arrange the sub-sections (who likes the current behavior might get upset if he can't go back)

Connection succesfull after removing the password! App is even still working after setting the password back in. Goes for both the Raspberry as the ION330 with OpenElec. Strange ...

RE: [released] Official XBMC Remote for iOS - hayona - 2013-01-18

I've downloaded this app today and it is absolutely fantastic!

however i encountered 2 issues regarding "Music", i wanted to share:
1) Songs without an ID3 tag "Tilte" can not be found in Albums/Artists Nor Songs, but only under the Files tab.
2) Under the "Files" tab, after a file is finished playing, the file after it, doesn't start playing. This makes it impossible to play a CD under the "Files" tab in one touch.

So if u have Albums which their ID3 tags don't contain a Title, u can't play them with one touch after finding them in the "Files" tab Sad
