RE: WMC as the backend - released - hoopsdavis - 2013-08-18

Krusty, have you come up with a way to have faster channel changing? Takes me at the most 11 - 12 seconds. At the least 8

RE: WMC as the backend - released - soulshadow - 2013-08-18

No, unfortunately it's limited to copy-freely channels, the same as the other backend options.

What happens when you try to play a copy-once wtv file with xbmc?

Depending on the video, it either is a black screen with a few flickering boxes along the top or the first rendered image in the stream with a few flickering boxes along the top. Here's an imgur album of what it looks like when tuning one of those channels.

I'm noticing that watching live TV pegs all 4 cores at 100%, which is something that does not happen in WMC. Any ideas on what might be causing that? Is it the live remuxing?

No, its something I plan on working on, but I am trying to get the more serious bugs sorted out first. And you know, life and stuff.

Yes, I understand. Thanks for the response. But again, thanks very much for putting this together.

Thanks for the info.

I'm not sure how it could top out all four cores, at least it doesn't do that on my systems. I do remux on the fly, but that amounts to rearranging data packets it doesn't burden the system much that I can see. It would be interesting to hear if other people are seeing the same thing.

I can't reproduce the error when switching channels now. However, both TS and WTV file formats are being created when streaming.

I got more time to spend on this stuttering problem today, and I was surprised to see that the wtv file stutters in xbmc, just like the ts file. Is that the same for you too?

Yes, both stutter.

Oops, it should post an error message if for some reason it can't start. And this points out a major problem with error reporting, because if the app doesn't start click-once deployment makes it very hard to find the log file. I'll try to put up a fix for this today, so we can at least find out what is going on.

Yeah that's a problem, because it says that its an issue with xbmc/ffmpeg and this particular type of wtv. There will probably be nothing I can do about it just playing with the pvr code, but there are still a few things I want to look at anyway. I don't know if there is a place to submit video files that don't play correctly to the people who work on this, but this would be a good submission candidate. Sorry I won't pass the wife hurdle on this one.

As for the channel switching crash, I have found on the web a wtv clip that triggers it so I have something to work with now if you want to stop looking.

RE: WMC as the backend - released - hoopsdavis - 2013-08-18

Krusty, I continue to get "Windows Media Center PVR : Connection Lost" within xbmc. Any ideas?

pvr has been enable, disable and re-enabled again. serverwmc has been uninstalled and re-installed again.

No luck

So the server and client never connect? Or they connect but then the connection gets lost after a while?

They connect but immediately the client lost connection. I worked it out. there was a channel I added that must have had issue, after deleting the channel everything worked.

I having issues adding some channels.

Yeah so I put a new version of the server up (build 1044). Its kind of quick and dirty, but now when it shuts down it should copy the log file to the start menu > programs > ServerWMC directory. Send me this log file after it fails.

I don't understand how adding a channel can cause connection issues, unless it was somehow causing the server to crash. What exactly are you doing when adding channels? I said in earlier post that the way to add channels to the server is by setting them up in wmc, at least for now. Is that how you are doing it?

Before trying the WMC as a backend, which backend did you use. I had this issue because I was using the Mediaportal tvServer, after disabling the Mediaportal tvServer I was ok.
