What do I choose as source ? I tried all of them except for network, nothing works.

Bumping this since I also needed to do this and it wasn't documented. I have other plugins that work without explicitly also adding a folder in the File Manager as a source. Normally, you only have to point to the folder(s) in the plugin's settings and not anywhere else.

I have mine added as a source, but I'm still getting a black screen when running it. I've tried with both 1.0.9 and 1.1.0, same result. Was working fine until I upgraded from Leia to Matrix yesterday...

Okay, so, I did some digging on this, and I figured out what was going on: JSON-RPC is choking on the backslashes in the file path. Stuck a web-pdb trace at the start of getFileDetails on line 104, and even though the path parameter has the slashes escaped properly, by the time they go through the JSON-RPC parser they're no longer escaped. Per the log I pasted in the message above, the JSON being passed is invalid:
If you drop that into jsonlint, it'll choke on the "file" line because it thinks the backslashes are trying to escape something, when they aren't.json:{"jsonrpc":"2.0","method":"Files.GetFileDetails","params":{"file":"D:\Kodi Wallpapers\Aquarium004-720p.mp4","media":"video","properties":["file"]},"id":1}
For my particular use case - that is, a flat link to a file on the filesystem, not in a playlist or in a media source, I fixed this by making the following change:

I'd make a PR against the repository but this is the first I've ever done any Kodi development and I don't know if this change would break links to media in a media source. Suffice it to say though that this definitively fixes the problem for me, and hopefully provides some insight into what exactly the bug here is.

Create a smartplaylist. Point to the playlist, even its just one video.
The Volume reduction does not work while passthrough is active. The AR gets some Kind of signal coz it Shows The volume for 3 seconds after videoscreensaver starts.
@Lunatixz is it possible for the addon to disable passthrough, lower The volume like set in settings of the addon? and bring the volume back to normal and enable passthrough again when the Screensaver is canceled?
Otherwise I can't use it as the "background ambient video player" that I'm looking for, while I don't watch anything. Beside of that, thank you for your work anyway.

Video Screensaver - NOT_U - 2021-12-01
Hello, after searching the forums I cannot find an answer so I am hoping someone can help with this.
I downloaded the Video Screensaver and configured it to pull videos from my library. Everything works as it should BUT….. I would like it to start at random times of the video file NOT from the start of the video every time. Is that possible to change somewhere in the coding? It is not an option to configure in settings.

Hello,
Just updated to Matrix and have setup a new KODI installation. Installed this add-on from KODI repo and could not get any videos to play, same as another user mentioned, just get a black screen. Log file shows something it's not liking about pathname.
Installed beta version; it is even worse. Once the black screen comes up you loose all control of KODI and have tp bring up task manager to kill it. Tested on Windows 10. Add-on worked fine in Leia.

So I am guessing that this add on will npt support 4K HDR .mov files since I only ever get a black screen when the add on is pointed to my NAS with hand picked Apple Aerial video files. Is there an add on for kodi that DOES support using your own 4K HDR .mov files as a screensaver?
