RE: Arctic - Nablamax - 2013-12-29

First of all thanks for making this skin, I've tried probably every skin ever made and this one is the best by far.

I'm having some problems with the recent items view in the main menu, it shows blank. I've tried configuring and reinstalling the skin widget service, i've reinstalled this skin maybe 3 times and nothing works. Any ideas?

I'm having the same issue. Running Frodo. Is Gotham required perhaps?

What I *would* love: instead of background wallpapers, be able to set a video file as 'wallpaper', and then use a small video file / loop to have shown as background... Probably will take a bit system power...
Now that I've put it in and set it up its actually a really awesome feature that I'm using myself. I downloaded this video from youtube and use it as my intro video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWripEEBwmM

I have a small script that restarts xbmc on resume from suspend - so basically when I press power on my remote the first thing I see is this video then it drops me into the homescreen once its finished.

A looped background video wouldn't really be possible - although it could probably done with an animated .gif or a series of png/jpg images put into a multiimage control that loops and scrolls really fast - but I'm sure it would cause more problems than its worth really.

Definitely works on Frodo as its what I run.

First, make sure its enabled in skin.widgets settings --> settings > addons > enabled addons > services > skin widgets > configure
Enable "recent items" in the menu - make sure you press the "ok" button at the bottom of the dialog, otherwise the settings wont save. Then restart xbmc. If you have the show only unwatched option enabled then make sure you actually have recently added items that are unwatched.

Just curious if any progress has been made to enlarge the fonts yet? I had to move to another skin since my new furniture has me further away from the TV. I miss this skin so much!

RE: Arctic - Nablamax - 2013-12-30

Tried that, home screen shows "loading" but doesn't show recent items or recommended/random items (everything activated in skin widgets). I'm on Frodo 12.3 and this used to work, can't remember when it stopped working.

I've done some work on it - its usable, but not anywhere close to being polished. There are some alignment issues and places where text scrolls or is cut off -- I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do about some of these areas yet, I might have to go with slightly smaller fonts or condense them a bit.

If you want to try what I've done so far I'd appreciate feedback on whether the font sizes are big enough (or even better, if they can go smaller) -- keep in mind that not all areas have been changed, but most views, plots, osd, home menu and info screen have bigger fonts. I'm not going to move onto the other less prominent areas until I can get those ones looking right first.

If you overwrite the contents of skin.arctic/1080i/Font.xml with this http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=xQgTNQZP
then restart xbmc, you should have an option for a "big" fontset in appearance options. I'd really appreciate some feedback on sizes.

I'm on 12.3 also, so its definitely working. On the panel home-screen the loading wheel displays when skin.widgets hasn't loaded yet, so my guess is its something wrong with the skin.widgets addon (rather than the skin). Does it work for other skins?

You could try manually deleting the service.skin.widgets folder from the addons folder and any of its saved packages in addons/packages/ (e.g. ~/.xbmc/addons/packages/service.skin.widgets-0.0.27.zip). Then restart xbmc and reinstall it. If you don't delete the packages when you uninstall or remove an addon, xbmc just uses the saved packages to reinstall it (rather than re-download) -- so if there was some problem with the package (e.g. a file was corrupted) then it will just cause the same problems because its using the same corrupted file. Its a long shot, but a possibility.

RE: Arctic - drivesoslow - 2013-12-30

I had possibly the same issue, if you look back a couple of pages you will see that it has to do with the configuration of the skin widget service. I had to turn all the features on except for the show only unwatched items.

RE: Arctic - Tripp - 2013-12-30

Okay, I have downloaded using it. Yay, I'm back to using your Skin!

So far the fonts are good size now. Or at least I can read them. The fonts on the widgets are still the same size but I can live with that. The only thing I noticed is in in the submenus the titles are too big to show up across the icon (which I am not surprised. I can just rename these I think later). Also, the Choose art button when a movie or TV show is selected is too big and it auto scrolls which is a little distracting. But I can live with all of this. As I use it this week I will let you know of anything out of alignment that looks bad.

Butchabay in his Cirrus V2 skin featured a dreamscene background video loop as a startup video, it did look cool and there was a site where you could download different videos but after a while I got bored with it as I found I browsed through my library too quickly to be bothered with pausing just to watch the loop.

RE: Arctic - jurialmunkey - 2013-12-30

@Kokonutcreme -- More the issue is because it would load in the video player so its subject to the same controls -- for instance, what happens when someone presses stop on the remote and suddenly your background is gone -- its possible but its kinda hacky.

RE: Arctic - akya - 2013-12-30

Hi.. I just tried this skin and it's fantastic.. I have a couple of questions.. I was editing the sub-menu under Movies and TV Shows. I was able to add "Tags" successfully using ActivateWindow(videolibrary, movietags, return) I also want to add "videos" and "In-progress Tv shows" but couldn't find the id of those windows. Looked here - http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Window_IDs and http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Keymap Can you help? And second question, How to display clearart on video OSD? or is it not possible yet?

RE: Arctic - jurialmunkey - 2013-12-30

@akya

Code:
ActivateWindow(videos)
and...
Code:
ActivateWindow(Videos,library://video/inprogressshows.xml/,return)

No clearart in osd, only clearlogo --> skin settings > video osd > prefer clearlogo

RE: Arctic - akya - 2013-12-30

@jurialmunkey, Thanks.. both worked.. Is there a list of these anywhere? for future references.. :p

RE: Arctic - jurialmunkey - 2013-12-30

@akya -- this is useful: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Opening_Windows_and_Dialogs
It has a list of all the different names of the video and music library sections -- ActivateWindow(videos,**sectionname**,return)
I think the inprogress section is the only one that isn't mentioned because its really a smart playlist rather than a library node.

I agree, it's not a feature I personally desire or would use myself, but just wanted to share what Butchabay implemented in Cirrus V2 in case you didn't know of it.
