You updated scaling algorithms for GUI, that's great and much appreciated. But have you got anything else in mind? I don't see how DSPlayer could be made "more robust", basically. Smile

I consider the not that short llist of changes/fixes/additions from the first post as making the original build more robust. Cool

When i install a stock DSPlayer build, it is preset to all that old instrusive "manage madVR settings with Kodi" stuff which instantly overwrites settings of the installed madVR setup. This and all the documented other things are things i did not like about the otherwise great old original build.

At this point probably the most important things i wanted to achieve are implemented and will be tested over the next weeks/months.

We will see what will come along after i give the 005 build some weeks of everyday testing. Maybe some more usability fixes, backports (if some come along or are requested by someone), whatever.
For the 006 build i already removed the forced "Kodi version check" addon which could not be uninstalled in the past. This addon makes no sense in our DSPlayer build with that unnecessary "Kodi 18 is now available message".
Another small thing which i consider making the build better. Some may don't care. I like cleaning up such stuff further. Simple as that.  Nerd

I mentioned sometime that i already considered removing them, but for now i did not go through with the removal since it seems like they have some users which still use them for convenience reasons.

All changes and additions i make won't do anything about making a KODI 18 DSPlayer version "easier". This train of thought is imho all hopes and dreams, i'm afraid.
A Kodi 18 DSPlayer is imho a separate massive "rewrite project" and hasn't much in common with improving the existing (great) Kodi DSPlayer 17 and making it more robust.

Obviously that's up to you, but as I and fandangos have mentioned before, there are people who are willing to help out with that effort if your work ever makes it up to github. It's pretty daunting effort to be sure, but it can obviously be done if we put the manpower and energy into it. Smile

For now, this is obviously a very workable solution which is worth the pain of using an outdated version of Kodi for. Thanks for you work!

just some thoughts on KODI DS 18.

I cant help feeling that putting pressure on devs, however politely to work on KODI 18 DS is unfair, we've been told many times its a very big ask, we should just drop it, if someone wants to take up this mantel then great but lets stop asking people, hinting, gesturing or otherwise and just enjoy the current work thats going into the current version.

I'd like to make it very clear that I was trying to do exactly the opposite of this, although I was politely asking axbmcuser to publish a link to his repo with the updated changes once he's comfortable with the state of things.

Well he is working with GPL v2 code.
So the source code has to be made public.

If he is willing to take on the update task or not it's a complete different matter and I believe everyone here is thankful for even a small bump on dsplayer.
So no pressure. It's just when people see a new dsplayer build it's just normal to wonder if this will be made into kodi leia or matrix, specially if this decision hasn't been expressed previewsly.

hi, wasnt aimed at anyone in particular, its just that this and the old main DS thread was full of people asking for it to be updated over and over, even after being told time and time again it was too difficult/too much work.

We just need to drop this now.

Just my 2 cents, which I think echos most peoples sentiment, is that it is awesome to have someone put any dev effort into Dsplayer - after all, most of us here, at least, would switch to stock Kodi when hell freezes over (and thanks to the main Kodi devs for their hard work too, but the Madvr integration  is just too valuable to give up).

RE: Kodi 17.7 DSPlayer x64 BETTERGUI (2020 build) - mclingo - 2020-02-15

yeah, there really is no going back is there, however I feel the same way about KODI DS, i've tried every other player available and nothing comes close to usability, even the older 17 we're using. People have options though, they could use stock kodi and use an external player for MADVR, if you are strictly 2D this works very well, or you could just use two versions of KODI.

RE: Kodi 17.7 DSPlayer x64 BETTERGUI (2020 build) - san70 - 2020-02-16

Hello

I wanted to give a chance to this Kodi DSPlayer release, so I installed version 005.
Things were running well except for one blocking problem for me : I couldn't make Ambibox Kodi plugin work (I use Ambibox for my adalight compatible ambilight system).

After several configuration testing, it seems the issue is not related to the 17.7 Bettergui tweaks but to the fact that the release is built for 64 bits, because I get the same problem with an original Kodi DSPlayer 17.6 x64 installation.
Though Ambibox is 32 bits, it works well in the following setup
 - Kodi DSPlayer 17.7 x64 005 + Kodi Ambibox Add-ons 1.0.9.0 + Kodi embedded player
 - Kodi DSPlayer 17.6 x86 + Kodi Ambibox Add-ons 1.0.9.0 + Ds player + MadVR
It does not work for :
 - Kodi DSPlayer 17.7 x64 005 + Kodi Ambibox Add-ons 1.0.9.0 + Ds player + MadVR
 - Kodi DSPlayer 17.6 x64 + Kodi Ambibox Add-ons 1.0.9.0 + Ds player + MadVR

RE: Kodi 17.7 DSPlayer x64 BETTERGUI (2020 build) - san70 - 2020-02-16

... some precision: with DSPLayer 17.7 x64, ambibox is working when browsing in Kodi menus. The lights swith off when starting playing a video with MadVR.

RE: Kodi 17.7 DSPlayer x64 BETTERGUI (2020 build) - axbmcuser - 2020-02-16

Without really knowing what the Ambibox Kodi plugin is, after a short read i would suspect this difference in function would be fixable by the supporting addon developer.
But looks like it's an abandoned kodi addon since 2014 or so.

Unfortunately, the plugin is no more maintained, and there is no alternate plugin to make ambilight working with Ambibox.
Any chance you can build a x86 32 bits version ? 32 bits version will have also the big advantage to keep script extendedinfo working with Kodi DSPlayer since there is no x64 version of extendedinfo script.

RE: Kodi 17.7 DSPlayer x64 BETTERGUI (2020 build) - axbmcuser - 2020-02-17

script.extendedinfo is a regular python addon afaik and works for me on x64 on a daily basis.
Or am i missing something? I only use it for extended info on movies. Is there some functionality which only works on 32bit for this script? Some more details would be helpful. (Besides knowing that script.extendedinfo is also an abandoned addon which has countless bugs/hangs/crashing scenarios for certain situations. But for simple basic use it works mostly...)

I'm afraid that even if i could spent all the extra time to try to set up and config and adapt a new compiling environment for the 32bit version - i don't have enough free ssd disk space to work and compile more projects atm. Maybe one day if there is more room again. But please don't get your hopes up.

There is nothing special about the changed seek step defaults. Just the defaults have changed. If you want to change them to what has been the default in the past, you can do so of course.

I think the issue is that they reported that after installing your build, their custom skip-steps got replaced by those of your build.

There have been no changes regardinging overwriting existing settings. It's a simple and non instrusive change to _only_ the defaults.

I tested the mentioned scenario multiple times with no problems:

- Clean install with clean defaults
- Changed defaults to user wanted settings (seeks steps for example)
- Install Kodi again via setup to same location
- User settings are still there. No overwrite of seek steps (in this example).

If there is a suspected case of overwriting such an existing setting the cause most likely lies in one of many countless other possible reasons for such a scenario.
It's not the simple minimal change of some default settings. If this really was the case, Kodi would overwrite user settings with defaults all the time and no one would be able to keep their user settings on Kodi. :- )
It was not my intention to accuse you of anything, I just tried to point out what I thought the issue was for them. Smile
